i think dan 100% non-sarcastically said "maybe derrick is a fast healer like jay cutler" and i damn near did a spit-take hearing that. this HAS to be a joke, right? is he purposely putting himself out there to try and make WYC better? wtf?

but yeah this far it's all bulls talk which is working fine for me. woohoo!

Bulls are looking like another season of nagging injuries, Dunleavy, Taj, and DRose all out already.....

Here's something else I can add to my "I don't miss this show" list:

Let's dedicate all day to Bulls preseason talk when the Bears are playing, the Cubs are in the playoffs, and the Blackhawks start the regular season tomorrow night.

Fuck Bernstain.

Until CBS decides to pull the plug because he's driven away the last of his listeners.

Are the Bulls still on ESPN 1000? I always thought it was Score policy to not talk about sports that have contracts with the "other station"

i get it today, it's the first preseason game and the first time we're going to see the hoibulls so it's got a newness about it and rah rah rah. tomorrow will prolly be a cubs show all day long and no doubt thursday/friday will be one way or another win or lose.

as for blackhawks kicking off the regular season being a big deal..... lol dude. comeon man, don't let all the blackhawks fans around chicago/land fool you, nobody really likes hockey that much. they just like winning and by extension the hawks. only diehards are worked up for the regular season starting, and you know within a week or two dan will chime in with some observations about what the hawks are doing and whatnot, but havent we seen 3 cup years worth of talk basically starting around the beginning of the playoffs?

Apparently enough folks still listen to the show to make the sponsors happy. I don't blame you guys that listen because there aren't many other viable options. Kap has given me something until 2:00, and often times I just leave the radio on after he is done. But ESPN is a whole lot of bad.

I always thought Hub talking about watching the Bears game tape multiple times was just a joke. I don't watch the same game twice. There are too many other things to watch, and it's not like Hub is gaining some grand insights. He's the guy who said the Bears would beat the Cardinals, and then he writes an article saying that everyone knew the Bears would start out 0-3.

True...but as a diehard, I can dream, right.

As far as ShitStain chiming in about his hockey thoughts, I'm good...the 60 year old ladies I work with have better hockey acumen than that fuck.

Burnstain is the prototypical North Shore Jewish Short Guy that wished he was tall enough to play basketball. My cousin (half jewish on his dad's side) is the same way. I never understood the mentality...but alas, I had more fun playing baseball than basketball, anyway...

Don't forget David Hochberg.

I like how Dan perseverates on hockey fans doing the "my sport's better" thing so that no one will notice he does the inverse. "No one says you can't like your little stick-puck game, just as long as you understand your place" is really kind of the skeleton key to all the Quiet Contemplation 2013/Cheryl Scott/Patrick Kane stuff: go away and let me nerd out about the Bulls already.

i think basketball is the best pure game out of them all as it has the best real time blend of athleticism and strategy in the actual game itself.... you don't have to constantly run around near-100% like soccer, nor are you sitting back waiting for little bursts of stuff like baseball, football, and even golf if you wanna call that a sport. much like baseball with the sheer #s of people needed, hockey is kind of gatekeepered by the fact you gotta have rollerblades/skates (and the latter means you have to have ice and whatnot) and sticks and goalies and even with rollerblades you have to have a big ol area to play in, and those aren't as numerous in our populace as are basketball courts (tho i guess you COULD just use the basketball courts if you beat the basketballers there) where you basically just need like, 2 people and a ball and you can do at least 2 different games... once you get to 3-4 you can start having teams or doing 21 or something. it's inherently accessible, it works with the nice weather, and it's got that combo of strategy/athleticism that works out for athletes who suck at the game and people who are good at the game who suck at being an athlete alike. i think that's why it's favored by the people you're talking about; it's inherently populist!

hockey is an acquired taste to basketball's inherently populist thing, imo.

Fair assessment Sini. Basketball is a lot of fun to play. I don't find it as exciting to watch because of all the fouls and the sense that the game comes down to the last few minutes many times (no lead is safe). The fact that NBA games seem to take 30 minutes to finish in the last five minutes is infinitely frustrating to me.

Hockey is definitely an acquired taste to watch.

I'll buy all that up to "best" in terms of purity, because tennis offers the same mix of constant real-time athleticism and strategy (and the beauty that attends that mix) but also distills the competition to one-on-one, which basketball can't do outside of the playground. No Jud Beuchlers in tennis.

Maybe it's the foul thing that gets me with basketball...specifically the NBA...I can't say it's because I'm not patient...I watch soccer for fuck's sake...that requires a ton of patience.

I just can't deal with the sheer number of fouls and the way the game just slows the hell down right at the end...just ugh.

Evan Longoria became the 4th third baseman to hit 20 home runs in 7 of his first 8 years. They already said Eddie Matthews is one and Mike Schmidt is not.
