This might not be verbatim, so fuck you if it's not. Goff: All these people mad at me for stuff I said about Mr. Rogers. Bernstein: Most children's TV is creepy. Terry (before Dan could even finish the sentence): It is, yes. Bernstein: One of my childhood TV heroes was The Frugal Gourmet. I turn this off, switch to ESPN, and am greeted with Silvy's commercial for Boll and Branch bedsheets. Christ... |

Creepy was this guy: Sure, I wanted to try the buckets game as long as you could guarantee that guy wouldn't be hiding in the closet of my dressing room. |

rogers park bryan wrote: What did Goff say about Fred Rogers? I don't know, but it started when they were talking about one of their guests and Bernstein said he must be hiding something/leading a double life like Charles Kuralt. No one knew what he was talking about, so he went on the explain that Kuralt apparently had four different wives and families. Bernstein also said he assumes that people like that all have some dark secret. Ironic, because I'm sure no one thinks that about Bernstein. Looked up Kuralt on Wikipedia, not exactly four different families: Two years after his death, Kuralt's personal reputation came under scrutiny when a decades-long companionship with a Montana woman named Patricia Shannon was made public. Kuralt apparently had a second, "shadow" family with Shannon while his wife lived in New York City and his daughters from a previous marriage lived on the eastern seaboard. Shannon asserted that the house in Montana had been willed to her, a position upheld by the Montana Supreme Court.[11] According to court testimony, Kuralt had met Shannon while doing a story on "Pat Baker Park" in Reno, Nevada, that Shannon had promoted and volunteered to build in 1968. The park was in a low-income area of Reno that had no parks until Shannon promoted her plan. Kuralt mentions Pat Shannon and the building of the park — but not the affair — in his autobiography. |

Dan's told the story of how he was on a plane to or from Seattle and said "OH, WOW, IT'S THE FRUGAL GOURMET!" to Jeff Smith like some complete rube, or a complete rube who watches public television on a regular basis. The Frug said "yeah, tell everyone" and was very annoyed. |

I knew from the beginning that the frugal gourmet had something weird going on with that young assistant. Gadar going off big time. |

Not wholly unlike The Second Mile, The Frugal Gourmet was basically just a means for Jeff Smith to be supplied with hot young men rife for exploitation. The cooking tips were incidental. |

He's telling you about how you're going to save so much by ordering directly, and I'm thinking, "hey, bedsheets are overly expensive maybe I'll look into that." Then he says how much it costs, and I'm thinking "what the fuck are they doing advertising on this station?" |

went to the Oak Park Library used book sale about five years ago. Millions of books people donate. probably a couple thousand used cook books. at least half of them were Frugal Gourmet books. We still occasionally make his Irish Stew recipe. Is that wrong? |

People that purport to have any problems whatsoever with Fred Rogers are not only doing it to be one of those vapid contrarian asswipes, they probably are wrought with the issues they're trying to foist upon him and then some. |

Sports-talk radio and somewhat pricey bedding don't really seem like a match made in advertising heaven. According to the commercial, though, two U.S. Presidents have enjoyed them, so... |

Is it ok to still love Commander Data? He can't possibly be a diddler since he is not human and has no emotions. |
