Boyd + Beardown = match!

The new management might look at the "talent's" salaries and figure it's just sportstalk. Fire everybody and get some 20-something guys to do it for a lot less money.

I don't like writing pretend conversations...unless I'm mocking Beardown.

Among that group of stations, I wonder which are the money makers, and which ones aren't pulling their weight. It seems like WSCR has a solid core little market with a well defined demo.

Does this mean they could force Terri Hemmert to finally retire or die?

I don't really know what the alternative would be.

Bernstein is a talented guy who works well with his bosses. The direction of his show may change slightly but I doubt he goes anywhere unless he chooses to.

I think the issue is if his ego can handle a "recession contract" next time around. Revenue is down.

If I had to guess, I suspect the cost cutting bosses will want to utilize more syndicated programming, which of course would destroy the essence of the Score.

If I want to hear syndicated programming, and often I do, I can just put on XM.

It's llke the Tribune and Sun Times trying to cut the paper size until it's profitable, then being surprised that nobody wants to buy a paper with nothing in it, and then raising prices again after all.

CBS radio won't go the route of syndicated radio because their syndicated radio absolutely sucks outside of Jim Rome and he failed in Chicago.

IMHO, there's nothing worse than syndicated product - no matter what time of day.

Especially if it is material aired previously in the day.

Grobber, faults and all, is better than anything CBS can offer during those hours. He is a must listen on Sunday nights after Bears games. If anything, it is entertaining to say the least.

There's no reason why the third largest market should ever air anything but live & local.

That's why podcasts were invented.

There is a lot of national radio that is far better than anything in Chicago. CBS just doesn't have any of them.

Rich Eisen is even developing a decent show now.

I'm starting to believe that Boers and Bernstein will be the last Chicago sports radio show that I like.

Yeap, that is the problem with all the cutting. It is an endless cycle that doesn't end well. But there aren't enough listeners and/or advertisers to cover the cost of traditional programming. The papers were done in by the reduction in classified ads and readers. It is the same thing with radio but to a lesser extent.

As CH noted, the pie is too divided.

They have an opportunity to showcase their talent on those sports minutes and it is mind numbingly bad.

Jim Rome ‏@jimrome Jan 3
Tom Jimsula....err Tim Jomsula, or whoever the Niners fired Jim Harbaugh for, is out. Safe to say that wasn't an upgrade

Can you force a person to die? Or is that still considered straight-up murder?

I just heard her announce that she has cancer, will be having surgery, and today will be her last show for a while.

She said she had a knee replacement last year but was still having pain. She was diagnosed with spinal stenosis and thought she was going to have surgery to correct that but then was diagnosed with cancer and will be having that surgery first.

Seems like an awful lot of people are forced to listen to talk radio that they hate, so who knows anymore.

If revenue being down forces Bernstein to take a bit of a haircut I would wager he starts making sneaky comments about the sales staff instead of realizing his show is turning off listeners and advertisers.

It must be so unpleasant having David Hochberg as your patron. I'm thinking slightly less creepy than Lee Garner Jr., but only very slightly.

I used to see her in the parking garage all the time and she could barely walk. She's like a foot taller than Bernstein and insisted on driving a Mini Cooper (with a license plate suggesting a company car). I would imagine that getting in and out of that little bug caused at least some of her problems. I used to think that her status as the mid-day DJ at the third-largest market's Home for Progressive Rock was somehow symbolic of the Death of Rock and Roll.

I still have a feeling she could put together some pretty good playlists if they took the shackles off everyone there and did away with all the scheduling formulas.

I don't know how many people could handle multiple Beatles songs every hour.

What shows in particular? I'm legitimately curious since I find the Score so boring. I have zero interest in Boston sports, but have become a fan of the Dennis & Callahan and Planet Mikey shows on WEEI.

I've grown quite fond of the Dan Patrick Show. It's even better if you have a television in your office. The Rich Eisen show is growing on me too though it is basically a copy of the DP show.

I've been a big fan of Steve Czaban for a long time too. He is Yahoo Sports radio now with some local affiliates.
