If you wanted Mike Mulligan & Brian Hanley to become Howard Stern, Mancow, Jonathon Brandmeier or other guys not afraid to push the envelope in good taste, forget it. That's not who they are, fans, and the 2 Sun-Times sportswriters will be the first to admit that. I happen to like these guys bringing us intelligent, genuine Chicago sports talk on the morning drive without the shock.

Have you picked out any names for the little on yet?

That would be funny if it was still 2005 or 2006 Mully...but there are plenty of people on the board that'll tell you that I'm not Hood...

They both look the same to me.

I told you guys aparacio is NOT Mully. He doesn't type in all CAPS, no yelling, no Mully.

I'm sorry, but when the playoffs end there will be nothing of interest to the average Chicago sports fan being discussed on M&M. As for Mully & Hanley, they are a work in progress but I've actually found them to be more entertaining lately.

The thing I dislike the most is the over-the-top laughter when they're interviewing someone. The interviewee with say something that maybe makes me grin a bit, and these two are bellowing with laughter. Maybe it's not disingenuous, but it sure as hell sounds like it -- they might as well use a laugh track.

Geez...why is everyone so down on people who stutter? Or is it just radio hosts who stutter (or often sound as though they do)?

It's not so much the stuttering as it is the inability to react quickly to something on the fly. Mulligan seems to have a hard time if someone makes a joke during an interview or says something he wasn't expecting.

The few times I had heard him on in fill-in roles, especially with Bernstein, he struck me as being a pretty intelligent and well-spoken guy. But since I've been listening to he and Hanley (who I think is a dependable fill-in guy but he really has no personality whatsoever) it seems like he gets lost in his thoughts very easily and often winds up talking in circles and repeating himself. It's kind of cringe-worthy at times.

I do like their show, especially in comparison to what was there before, but I can see how people would find them unappealing & boring. I find Mike and Mike to be unlistenable so I like having a local alternative in the morning when I want sports talk.

That's my issue. It's like SCR is the only choice by default.

So in the end, I guess my first post was completely pointless. No matter how bad this show is, I have no real sports alternative in the morning. I guess I'll just have to choose between who pisses me off less in the morning...

When I talked to Mully at the Holiday Party, he had the same laugh so I am guessing that's just him. I didn't talk to Hanley much, but Mully knew about the board and mentioned he tries to read it once a week.

Some of the laughter by both M&H today during the Kevin James interview was a little over the top.

A good example this morning. Mully & Hanley were talking White Sox baseball with Don Cooper. I flip to AM1000 during a break and what do I hear?...Golic & some goofball guest making fun of Greenie taking up boxing followed by Greenie's discussion of their producers being into Yoga. Now that's entertainment!

Just wait till Greenie brings up the "sheets of integrity" every five minutes. Mulli & Hanley will be the greatest radio ever then.

So I guess...

local garbage > national garbage

I sort of agree. But why does M&M do so well here?

Several years ago, yes. I would swear I remember those two talking and laughing in French accents over the course of a couple shows. Not sure what it was that triggered that particular bit of silliness, but it was pretty funny. I think it was 05 or 06.

I know Mully filled in for Terry in the old 1160 days because Mully and Bernstein started that whole mess about Mike Brown being so smart that he could use his brain to tackle you...

I remember him doing a bit about Brown being like Aquaman where his brain would send out waves similar to how Aquaman would communicate with all the creatures of the sea.

So keep in mind that I almost never listen to M+H.
So how many of you have a show that you can tune into every day and be happy with it? How many of you know a person who you can listen to any day (off the radio) and not get sick of them every once in a while.
Just because there are some days where you're bored doesn't mean it's a bad show.
To the people who complain about every show - what's the next step? What do you want? Who do you want?
By nature, people who are talking every day for hours on end are going to get on your nerves. Some of the whining on this board and complaints about every fucking show are so boring

At the risk of getting torched, my main complaint about this show is I can't stand their fake laughs at every goddamn thing that's uttered. NOTHING IS EVER THAT FUNNY! You could have Eddie Murphy, Steven Wright, Brian Regan, and whoever the hell else you find funny, and they still couldn't get me to laugh like these guys do at their own stuff. It's maddening, especially since I do like when they talk sports. But, guys, please, for the love of all things holy, STOP WITH THE FAUX GUFFAWS!!! PLEASE!!!

Mulligan punctuates his annoying fake laugh with a sound I can only describe as the noise a drooling 5 year old makes when trying to suck the spittle back into their mouth. I think that's what puts my aggravation over the top and I reach for the button.

Thanks for the forum. Flame away.

holy SHIT ed, you completely nailed it! i don't really notice it with hanley but my *GAWD* mulligan sounds BRUTAL when he laughs, and he doesn't just laugh, like you said...he GUFFAWS! and it does sound phony as hell.

tirico has that same kind of laugh.

they still don't compare to the horribleness that is my roommates' laughter. it can literally cause children in africa to cry.

Mulligan's "catch phrases" are annoying as hell too.

-"Chicago Sports Radio SIXseventythescorrrrrrre"
A ripoff of Bernstein's old sign-off as a beat reporter, and it was grating then too.

-"Oh yes indeed"
Likely a verbal tic, such as Doug's use of "the fact", but still sounds stupid every time I hear it.

-"My giddy aunt"
Just flat retarded, and this is coming from a guy who enjoys Terry's yelps and wails, so that's saying something.

-"arse"
Just say "ass".

-"Ted Sunquist - we call him 'our personal general manager'".
Mulligan says this like it's something inventive and clever and original when it's anything but.

Although I don't find the M&H show to be a terrible waste of time like a former morning show on the Score, I did find this annoying today. On my way into the city from Rockford, I had plenty of time to catch M&H and I believe Mully used the adjective "outspoken" to describe Jeff Nelson every single time he was promoting Nelson being on the show at 9:30. I get it, he speaks his mind, but as a journalist, couldn't you grab a thesaurus and vary it up a little bit. Might be a little thing, but it drove me nuts this morning.

I like the show, but what grates on me is their CONSTANT "The Pulse"ing of everything. Like Recap and React ONLY on the Score. Translation: we're going to do a local sports call in show. Or The Back Page, only on the Score. So WSCR is the only local radio station that plays the highlights from last night's games? Fuck they even do that on Will Rock!

Guys (and Larry this applies to you too). Just do a fuckin call in show and stop trying to convince us that it's all this exclusive groundbreaking stuff.

they were actually discussing this a few weeks ago. mully actually said that line sarcastically because he said it after jon scheyer's announcement that he was going to duke over illinois.
