Anyway, this morning they're talking about Jim Corneilson singing before the Bears game. Hanley read a text that stated that Corneilson is also an insurance broker. They both then broke into a very unfunny bit about Jim Corneilson singing to his clients while closing deals. Not even smirk-worthy. They were both cracking up at their own comedic efforts, however.

Public Service Announcement: Comedy is a dangerous tool in the hands of a moron. Save the heavy lifting for the pros.

Or a Real estate broker at Rubloff Properties

That changes everything. Now it's funny...

It's not funny, but still better than almost everything Larry has done.

No. I was laughing at Ivan.

It was awful, but I knew he was a real estate guy and not an insurance broker.

You only think Mully is OK because of how bad Hanley is. If you put Mully with someone else you would see how bad he is. I can not tolerate being yelled at for no reason every morning on the way to work. I get enough of that at home and at work. My commute is one of the few times I am not yelled at. Both of these jokers need to go.

Mulligan is a little loud, Ill give you that. I think he would be good as a second guy to a strong personality. Just giving stories from his unique perspective as a reporter for so long and be the fan...AKA The Jurko Method

Mercy. I get it. You like M&H. Or have a connection with them. Or both. Good for you but I really don't give a shit one way or another.

The show sucks and today's bit was not funny. Its never funny, and the show is rarely good.

So, that's that.

I also don't like the way Mully pronounces "Biggsy" like Big Z when Brad Biggs is coming on. I'm always expecting an interesting conversation with Zambrano and instead I get excruciating minutiae about offensive line play.

Mully is just as bad as Hanley, there I said it.

Both are terrible and the show sucks. If ESPN put any effort into a local AM show they could dominate that segment but they aren't so they don't.

Agreed. Trying to figure out whether it's Mully or Hanley that makes the show suck is likely trying to figure out if it's Jeff Keith or Frank Hannon that makes Tesla suck.

So what I gather from some people, the reason the show is bad is because of Hanley?

The show is basically 80% Mully and 20% Hanley. Hanley throws in his unfunny one liners because that's the only airtime the guy can muster with Mully's big mouth.

His questions to guests are legendary. Here would be an example...

Mully: On the line with us is Bears safety Major Wright, so Major...blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah....coming from florida....blah blah blah...Cover-2....blah blah blah..Merriweather...
blah blah?

i'm sure Hanley doesn't mind this arrangement of Mully doing all the talking. Hanley can roll out of bed and put in minimum effort.

Strongly disagree. I listen for about 15 minutes every day but in those 15 minutes Hanley is talking all over Mulligan.

He's awful. Dont defend him. 20% Hanley is still 20% too much Hanley

Hanley talks all over everybody. And even Mully is doing it more and more. Hanley ALWAYS interrupts guests and callers, and even Mully interrupts callers. Not even stupid callers. It will be like;

Caller: Yeah so whoever is going to be the new Cubs GM, what does h...[cutoff]
Hanley: Well yeah, who is out there? Who is going to fix this mess? blah blah blah

IMO, Mully and Hanley can both share 50% of the blame. They're both equally bad and unfunny, just in different ways.

Mully tries to be "goofy-funny". He falls short.

Hanley tries to be "clever-funny". He also falls short.

It's like if Boers & Bernstein went on strike and WSCR hired scab hosts to imitate them.

:D I like that comparison.

Mully guest-hosted with Bernsie in the early 00s and they were really good shows IMO. When TB retires (officially) I'd put Berns in the morning with Mulligan. Mully can tell tales of England and Ireland, and Bernstein can one-up him with Raleigh and Rockford.

I remember those. I also remember Hanley guest-hosting with Terry around that time and those were also good shows. Mully and Hanley are just way too annoying to be paired together. Too much of one thing is overkill. They both need balanced partners to offset their idiocy.

I think you guys are being too hard on the guys.

The worst thing I can say about them is that they found it a grand idea to bring in one of their whiney-voiced, screaming producers as a co-host the other day (when Haugh was in). That was truly bad radio.

What do you want from a morning sports show? I'd say that the common fan probably just wants what they deliver; sort of a vanilla, though at times very loud, couple of Chicago guys talking local sports. Undoubtedly they do a lot of stuff that annoys hardcore fans, but I think they deliver (especially in guests and experts) what most fans want. I don't think they probably have a fan club like some of the other shows, but that's ok. They serve their purpose.

I doubt anyone would ever marathon-listen to them, as they do wear on you, but to act like they are somehow the worst thing ever is insulting to truly bad radio guys like Laurence Holmes or that screaming producer.

Bottom line:

They both suck. They both make the show bad in their own unique and unfunny way. I would rather listen to Hub Arkush talk Cubs baseball with Bob Vandington...

Way back in the day Hanley and Boers had a regular weekend slot titled 'the young sportswriters'. It was ironic even then. Anyway I think they were probably close Sun-Times bros and likely why Hanley tries so hard to imitate the master interrupter.
