If they were so influential, then how come the city didn't give them the public tax money they wanted in their original plan?

It's a damn free society, and if a guy has money and wants to spend it buying influence, then he can. It's the way our democracy works. I'd love to have a lot less government so you don't need to pay the piper to get a project approved in the city.

Nah, I am not their champion. As you guys have said, they do well fighting their own battles. I am glad they are successful and glad they create wealth and jobs for the rest of us. It does not shock me that they look out for their own interests as we all do the same. It's simply that they have more fire power.

I am ok with a modest social safety net. Take a gander at the disability article on the front of the WSJ today. Pretty clear we are well past the "modest" piece.

I think you need to switch that 65/35 split.

Even if it's more like 50/50, that's a pretty strong reason for middle class people to more closely align with the rich over the poor. Now, maybe my perception is off, but given how well "pay your fair share" sells in just about every election, I can't help but think they aren't just talking about Bill Gates and Warren Buffett.
