Farewell Friday to ‘Mully & Hanley Show’ at The Score posted on July 26, 2018 at 11:30 am by Robert Feder SHARE It’s over and out for “The Mully & Hanley Show.” Friday will be Brian Hanley’s last day as morning co-host alongside longtime partner Mike Mulligan on Entercom sports/talk WSCR 670-AM. As first reported here July 3, Chicago Tribune sports columnist David Haugh is expected to replace Hanley from 5 to 9 a.m. weekdays, starting Monday. Hanley, a 26-year veteran of The Score, will shift to fill-in and vacation-relief duties. “Brian is a class person who has exceeded in everything he has done in life, whether being an award winning journalist at the Sun-Times, an outstanding radio host here at The Score, and most importantly probably the best uncle anyone could have,” Mitch Rosen, operations director of The Score, said in an email to staff Thursday. “Brian is truly one of the nicest people in our hallway, and always is willing to talk sports and Springsteen, which by the way I think the total amount of shows he has seen is over 100! Brian is a true professional and continues to demonstrate that trait day in and day out here at the station. . . . I really look forward to Brian continuing to be here and working with all our great shows.” A former Sun-Times sports writer, Hanley joined The Score as a part-timer at its inception in 1992. He and Mulligan teamed up in middays in 2005 and moved to mornings in 2008. Rosen said Hanley will be among the first inductees in The Score Hall of Fame, a shrine to the station’s heritage, with plans to be announced in the near future. David Haugh Friday’s move will complete the overhaul of The Score’s daytime lineup engineered by Jimmy deCastro, senior vice president and market manager of Entercom Chicago. Middays and afternoons were revamped in March, with deCastro bringing back Dan McNeil and Connor McKnight, and cutting Jason Goff and Matt Spiegel. DeCastro targeted The Score for a shakeup soon after he took over the seven-station group in November. Haugh previously co-hosted middays with David Kaplan on The Game 87.7 FM, the short-lived sports/talk station deCastro launched in 2014 when he was president and general manager of Tribune Broadcasting news/talk WGN 720-AM. Official confirmation of Haugh’s hiring at The Score is expected on Friday. In the latest Nielsen Audio survey, The Score was eighth in mornings with a 3.7 percent share and cumulative weekly audience of 319,700. Among men between 25 and 54, The Score tied for fourth with a 5.7 share and 142,100 weekly cume. |

This really isn't a big deal if you consider variances in age of siblings, etc. It's common to be a teenager and an uncle too, (if you were the youngest child in the family). |

There is a 12 year old girl on our softball team that has a 13 year old niece playing a level up. |

Will the Score Hall of Fame be located in the broom closet of the Heavenly Bodies Skybox? |

My mom had an aunt that grew up in her house that was just a year older than my aunt. Couple families like that out here too that had surprise kids in their mid 40’s after starting in their early twenties. |

This has to be a cost move. it doesn't make sense any other way. haugh doesn't do anything better than hanley does.... same goes for mcnight over speigal... cost and jimmy's ego appear to be the only driving factors with these two moves |

He was one of the few callers that Chet would regularly let on COS, because he had cogent thoughts about the Bulls and he could be both funny and passionate. |

I didn't mean great uncle in terms of generations. I meant a fabulous uncle. Look at Mitch's quote that I underlined. |

I am just using a superlative to describe what an awesome Uncle he is. |

Do we actually know something when we throw this around (which is what denisdman is doing and lying about not doing), or was it a joke that got a life of its own? |

I am not sure what you mean. Mitch Rosen was quoted as saying Hanley is the best uncle. I used great instead of best for my thread title. Folks took that to mean "generational" rather my intent to describe what an awesome uncle he is. Nothing more than that. |

No, you pointed out that "uncle" was code for "grown man with no wife or kids," and then said he was fabulous. Don't play dumb, other people made the gay jokes better. |

Huh, I did not do that at all. I said fabulous to move away from great because great was misinterpreted. In no way was I making a gay joke here. My funny was that his boss said he was the best uncle. Have you ever had a boss tell you that? |
