I caught most of the Gayle Sayers interview this morning at about 7:30. I know he has a reputation for not being the most pleasant guy in the world, but does he bitch about the fact that he only made $25k a year when he played and guys now make millions a year in every interview he does? Was he ever destitute or did he otherwise have financial trouble after his playing career? I was under the impression that he's been a fairly successful businessman since his playing career ended. It seems like all he does his bitch and moan. And if he's going to say that he had great peripheral vision umpteen times, the least he could do is learn how to correctly pronounce "peripheral."

Mully plugged his upcoming appearance someplace and I couldn't imagine who, after hearing this interview, would have any desire to meet this guy.

Can't remember if I mentioned this before in another thread or not,
I think I may have. I caddied for him about 10 years ago and I had
high hopes for the round, being a huge Bears fan. He was one of
the worst loops I ever had, and had the personality of a cockroach.
He always sounds bitter and almost always has an axe to grind with
someone when in front of a microphone. Great player, and fortunately
a good businessman as well, but he needs to just let it go. It's been
decades now.

Ok, NOBODY made salaries in 65 comparable to todays salaries in ANY field, guy. Plus you only played what? 5 seasons? In the NFL you wouldn't start making the big money until those later seasons in your career anyhow.
Just love you some Brian Piccolo and shut up about your wages.

He is a perfect example of Great Player loved him on the team but he sure is one miserable human being.

Of course guys make more money today. I m sure I pay in taxes what somebody in my field was making in the 60's.

Hulk was also complaining that the younger guys today can't improvise and read a crowd the way he could. As Mac pointed out, all they needed was Milt Pappas to complete "Bitter Old Guy" morning.

Gayle Sayers loves you as long as you're verbally slobbing his knob. And Mully and Hanley did plenty of knob-slobbing in the 5 minutes I heard.

No kidding. As they concluded the interview I think Hanley said "It's an honor to talk to you." An honor? Gimmie me a break!

Even though it only took 68 games for Gale Sayers to earn induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, #40 in Bears' blue & orange has always sounded surly whenever he's been interviewed. It's not just "Mully & Hanley", but I remember "the Kansas Comet" frequently dropped dime on Chet Coppock's old radio show, and he always seemed to badmouth the team that he played for back in the mid to late '60s. I don't understand why Gale's always so pissy whenever he's interviewed. Lighten up!
