Without even touching the dog issue, he ran a gambling ring! It could have been flipping pennys for $50K each flip, he was the person who fueled it.
Outside of the legal apsect here, I think Goodel took it easy on him because of the legal sentence.
I would have said he should be banned for at least 2 years, then an interview to see if he was worthy to come back in.
When you hang out with guys betting 50K on anything, some of that crowd is bound to be "seedy" at best and "connected" in some way. This is the problem. It's not about the actual wagering, it's about guys who live on scams and gambling and they live to get a guy like Vick in trouble...and then comes that one favor to get them out of the issue! Like, have a bad game against Cinci, or Detroit, or whomever.
This is how Tim Donaghy went down. A guy who makes $260K a year, plus all expenses paid and other $$$ chances in other leagues, etc. Yet, still he fell in with mafia and instead of him paying them back, he was offered chances to make things right. Like make the Over come in 10 of his next 11 games!
I know the commish could never say the gambling concerned him more, as it would not be PC! but I think this was as big of an issue, if not more with Goodel.
