Morning radio in Chicago

Yes, I know most of you think they are the worst show ever put on the radio and I agree it is not great, but they are putting up numbers never seen before for the SCR morning slot. Almost 5 times better than North!

#1 7.9 share of the 25-54 Mens share, which is what they care about about.

So, why is this happening if they are just so terrible?

Lack of competition. Mike & Mike suck and are only useful if you want national sports. They are the only game in town.

Guests. Biggs, Lombardi and Aikman are good. They reduce the amount of time M&H talk or fake laugh. If only Mully knew how to phrase a question that didn't take 5 minutes the interviews would be even better.

Theyd probably be better if they had a better offensive line, running backs and receivers.

I would have thought that a pile of shit would come in no higher than #5 on radio rankings. Illinois never ceases to amaze me with the statewide affinity for shit.

Jay Leno is routinely the most popular late night show on tv.

It's not just Illinois that has an affinity for the fecalesque.

Of course we can explain. The explanation is that there is not a correlation between quality and popularity. If there is, Lil Wayne is better than what, like 98% of musicians out there? And McDonald's is better quality than Lou Malnati's. Mully and Hanley are a boring, non controversial radio show who also happens to be the only Chicago sports-based radio show on morning AM. So this isn't exactly fucking rocket science to figure out. There's plenty of valid explanations for why a shitty show benefiting from these circumstances can be highly rated.
