5:00 AM, Cubby Bear is packed and people coming in and at a good clip to the Cubby Bear.
Casey Morans, empty.

I know what the ratings say and it says M&H are winning, but for some reason anytime I ask anyone about sports radio, they listen to ESPN?

Ratings system way off?

Its kinda like when the Mets or the Marlins win a few games. Sure, they won, but it doesn't make them a good team.

This is not a good show. It was, however, light years better a couple weeks back when Mully was off. That big, screaming oaf is what drags the show down bigtime.

Mike and Mike are famous. Mully and Hanley are not. Both shows are terrible but people are idiots and like 'celebrities'...

Can I choose option 3?

Mike Greenberg is likely smarter than 95% of this board.

Is that an insult to Greenberg, the board or both?

Doesn't make me want to listen to his sanitized corporate ESPN thoughts.

And he met Doug, so that takes him over the top.

Greeney said: Golic makes him seem smarter. The half life of M&M has likely passed. He owes Mac and Boers most of the credit for how his show is put together as he basically stole the Heavy Fuel Crew model.

Greenie going National was taking the Score MO national.

North gets some of that credit, so much that when he left The Score, who was his first interview? Greenie. Greenie knows he owes these guys something. Unfortunate for Greenie all North wanted to talk about was how a local sports show could never beat a national radio show.

Ratings are done electronically now.

They shouldn't be off.

Actually this is why the old notebook system sucked. People are lazy, so they just write whatever's easiest/first comes to mind. For example, if someone listened to sports, they'd just write ESPN because it was the least effort thing to do. Same if someone is black, they would just write WGCI. After the switch both 1000 and 107.5 suffered in the ratings because this stopped and they actually got real numbers.

So that explains why people just say ESPN. They don't really care about the conversation so they say the thing that requires the least effort and has the least chance of a reply.

It's like if you asked someone what their favorite pizza is. If they say Pizza Hut, chances are it's not their favorite pizza, it's just that they either don't want to think about it, or they don't want to risk saying "Pequod's" and then the other guy says "Oh my brother loves that place" or "I saw them on TV" and risk starting a conversation they don't want to have.

That sounds a bit like North claiming the economy is fine because the casino's were crowded. If you're looking for an explanation for this single event you might consider that M&M don't broadcast locally very often. Or the fact that their show is also televised.

Television makes the most sense. The crowd at the book signing was 50% women...many of whom said they loved "watching" the show, and/or were getting books signed for their husbands.

Chicago has always been very territorial with it's radio listening habits. I don't think that will ever change. As much as we complain about how "radio sucks" there are a solid 10-12 options depending on your preference.

I understand, but this should translate into ratings.

It's not like M&H are ever out for remotes? MM are very popular in the sense, they are known.

I prefer M&H, but outside of the numbers that someone produces, I just dont see the support.

Even some guy we met at a bar last month, who went to HS with Hanley, he listens to ESPN. I would just say most people I ever talk to listen to ESPN.

Maybe not talking to enough people?

I can only hope that someday, somehow, I eventually am able to use the 90% of my brain cells that currently are dormant, so that I, too, can possess such a finely-developed ear as to recognize the sterile, corporate-controlled radio suckage that many of you have long recognized. Or perhaps, I just need to expose myself to much more local-radio gold that has produced the Adopt-a-Pet segment, Shake That, and a guy named Meatpants.

K...

I cannot tell if you hate everything or nothing..
but either way, I'd follow you...
if you spotted a recently stocked unoccupied beer vendor at a local professional stadium, park, or field...pointed, and said...
"hey, that guy."

then, i'd buy yours.

Thanks, doug, I am sure I would enjoy a beverage in the presence of a rock-god like yourself.

I try hard not to hate anything, but lead-off walks, now they really piss me off!
