When Hester caught that kickoff with one foot out-of-bounds, did he actually know what he was doing or did it just happen to work out for him?

I never heard any talk of it after the game. Maybe JD can find out?

On the postgame last night with Billy Jack, Hester said that the coaches told him to do that if it happens. And also he clapped right away after the flag was thrown as if he knew what he was doing. But maybe Mac can get his guys on it as well...........

It would. Stupid people can know football. But you could tell by the way Hester fielded it that he knew exactly what he was doing. He never tried to run. He put that foot down slowly and well out of bounds because he knew what he was doing.

I can vouch for that!

Here's your answer: Since Rex decides who he's going to throw to in the huddle, he doesn't need to engage in all the onerous studying of defensive schemes and strategies like other qbs. It's called working smart instead of working hard!

Toub was also impressed with the presence of mind that Hester displayed on a second-quarter kickoff. With the ball rolling toward the sideline, Hester stood with one foot out of bounds at the 3 and reached back to field the ball. As a result, the kickoff was ruled out of bounds and the Bears took over at their own 40.

“It was a real smart play,” Toub said. “He can extend the out of bounds line, and that’s basically what he did.”

What don't you get? He can extend the out of bounds by catching it and putting the foot down out of bounds. Makes perfect sense. Gotta be in one motion. The fielder can't take a step. It's an NFL rule that you can take advantage of.

Now that ball was going out anyway but who cares. No harm in catching it and making sure.

I thought it was obvious he looked down right afterwards with the "Oh Shit, did I just fuck up look?". Seemed obvious to me that it was a mistake that worked out.

I think you're right on the money on this one FF. I was watching with the sound down and it appeared from his expression that he thought he had screwed up - particularly when he laughed sheepishly as he left the field.

Oops. I hereby nominate myself for DB of the week.
