Mac,
Don't let up on Bruce Le-Cubs-vineline. I remember about a few years ago when Marc Silverman and him went at it and it was very entertaining. Bruce is such a whining little baby who gets his feelings hurt on any question of his reporting. It would have been fantastic radio if you had kept that up. It's too lollipops and marshmallows for Bruce.

Mr. Woodcock

What happened ?

I do agree that Bruce gets very defensive when questioned, and I also believe that he does suck ass, especially when Baker was there.

Mr. Woodcock,

If it wasn't for Bruce Levine, you and Ed Lynch wouldn't have a job.

A7X,
That is a hell of a point. Carry on Bruce.

Basically Mac challenged Bruce on throwing softballs to Piniella and never considering even questioning Lou's moves.

That goes back to last week doesn't it? Something to do with a Cubs win, and after the game, Lou was livid about something. Mac gave a thumbs down to all of the Cubs beat reporters, including the one who he calls the "best in the business."

It was good radio and I happened to agree with Mac. The Lou apologists are annoying, hes not a bad manager or anything, but in this division with this payroll and to be barely up by 1 game in the division is not the work of the manager of the year.

That a-hole damn near thanked Baker for the privelege of covering him over the years during a press conference. What more do you expect from Bruce.

I'm not a Lou apologist, but let's not confuse activity with accomplishment. The Cubs high payroll in a crappy division are the result of GM Jim Hendry overpaying for players... this has nothing to do with Lou.

I'm not ready to label him manager of the year, but given the mis-match of overpaid talent he was given, I think he's done a good job. Sure he's made mistakes, but all managers do.

he has to be far far down the list for manager of the year candidates just for the simple fact that his team so many times throughout the whole season screws up on the pure fundamentals of the game. now i know players are gonna have a brain cramp here and there, but too many runners have been thrown out at 3rd, there's been awful bunting, piss poor relay throws, etc all year.

And don't forget his Vineline column. He's practically an employee of the Cubs.

Not practically.

It is a conflict of interest. I believe the ethics of his industry demand that he reveal the conflict each time he reports on the Tribune or any of its subsidiaries.

To any of the media professionals out there, am I correct?

pretty much....yeah.

i love Mac's line later something to this effect:

Bruce: "Lou will have to decide one way or the other"
Mac: "and whichever move he makes will be the right one."
