Whenever Harry defends Reinsdorf, it's gun-in-the-mouth radio. The lengths he goes to defend him are just embarrassing. Instead of saying "He told me...", he might as well begin those sentences with "When he was at my FATHA's house for dinner..."

I'll turn back from FM in about 10 minutes to see if this nonsense is over.

yea i usually agree wtih harry and defend him whenever i get the chance but hes just wrong about this one. Reisdorf is just afraid that if cuban gets the cubs than he ll (reindorf) wont be the most popular owner in the city anymore.

The boys beat up Harry pretty good on this one.

The only side of the argument that went unrepresented is that in addition to selling a team, Zell is selling 1/30 ownership in MLB, and as such, the other 29 owners have a vested interest in who buys the team - that's not a conflict of interest.

The analogy would be one of an exclusive country club with 30 members. If one decided to leave, and wanted to sell off his share of the club, the other 29 would be very involved in finding the replacement member/buyer.

Reinsdorf and the other 28 ownership groups are protecting the value of their investment and their league. If they feel that allowing a free spending owner into a sport without a salary cap would be detrimental to their interests they will not do it, and I'll guess here that Zell would have very little recourse.

It would be interesting to see how many NBA owners would allow Cuban into the league if the vote was taken now. I would guess that he'd have more than just Reinsdorf's vote against him.

I did not hear the segment and I cannot remember ever agreeing with Harry, but you will rarely go wrong in tailing Jerry Reinsdorf in a business decision. He is the executive that executives look to for advice.

Yeah, I guess they already have enough George Steinbrenner's, Artie Moreno's and John Henry's in the league as owners.

There already is a handful of free spenders around, especially after the Tigers owner joined them this off season.

All I'm saying is that the Reinsdorf opposition to Cuban is not a Cubs vs. Sox phenomenon. Cuban ran into complete lack of interest/support from the other owners a couple years ago, when he expressed an interest in buying the Pirates.
Suggesting that Reinsdorf doesn't want Cuban in Chicago is too narrow of a perspective. He doesn't want him involved with any MLB franchise.

Of course it is. Reinsdorf has the ear of policy makers in every level of government and business and he is worried that Mark Cuban will steal his headlines? That is conspiracy crap for people who have no perspective.

MLB talks about revitalizing its fan base, reaching new audiences, cracking down on PEDs, blah blah blah... and then fights like hell to defend its country club mentality.

NBA and NFL owners can shake things up-- whether it's forcing the NBA to rethink licensing policies or fighting for more opportunities for minority head coaching candidates.

But does anyone think baseball owners want that kind of troublemaker in their midst? Hell no. They won't even put up with that from their commissioner!

Anyway, the worst part of Harry & Jurko's exchange yesterday: Harry's condencending sighs. I hate it so much when people do that.

It's almost getting to the point in time to 'push the dial' on sports radio.

After the Super Bowl is over, I sure hope Justin Craig lets the MANTASTIC Show spread it's wings more.

If I have to listen to them talk NCAA and NBA Hoops, hockey and baseball - I won't be pulling up a chair from 2-6 any longer.

It'll be time to hit other neighborhood taverns...
