It's approaching....The annual Fantasy Football draft for ESPN am1000 will be held at the venue at Horseshoe Casino on Saturday August 28th. The draft is presided over by Commissioner Harry Teinowitz. Guest speakers include Mike (Da Coach) Ditka, John Clayton, Stephania Bell and Matthew Berry. Cost for entry into the league is just 10 dollars. You can get your ticket to this event starting July 28th on the espn am1000 website. They split people into 10 team leagues and you have a 13 week regular season. The top team (record-wise) advances into the playoffs, along with the highest scoring team that did not finish in first place. In previous years, the cash awarded was $5,000 along with other prizes (Big screen or gym equiptment). The day is a lot of fun and the crowd is usually a good one. In past years the day started at about 10am with the draft actually commencing at 1:00pm. The site does not specify the times for this years event, but I would think they will be similar, if not the same. Why they chose to go to Hammond this year is a good question though. Thats a lousy location IMO, but I guess they got a great rate on the facility.
Will you use this event as an alibi for your next racist rant?
The racial diversity or lack of the same where the location is concerned, is unimportant to me. The CONVENIENCE is indeed important. The station did a study on where the majority or individuals were from, that participated in the initial draft/event. It was determined that there were more people from the Western Suburbs than anywhere else. As a result, they relocated the following year and had the draft in Lombard, the year after that-Oakbrook. Now, they have chosen to take the event to an area OUTSIDE that area which has been determined to be best for the majority of people that are likely to participate in this years draft. I think thats unfortunate. I have to assume it's because they got a great deal on the venue there.
