As far as Daryl Hawks goes-the guy was awful. It was amazing that he was able to get and hold a job in sports media in a large market like Chicago as he did. His death doesn't change the quality of the work he produced while alive.
I've never seen Daryl Hawks mentioned on this board. Frankly, I don't even know who the fuck he is. But talking about the quality of his work- or lack thereof- on the day he died is really unnecessary.
Because Mac had previously been critical of the work Hawks produced, to say nothing when Hawks name was brought up would seem cowardly. He only mentioned not being a big fan of his work on TV but that the guy seemed like a good guy. It seemed appropriate to me. He said very little and Matt said some nice things about Darryl, having encountered him a few times. from all accounts he was a nice guy. But it doesn't change that he was lousy at his job. I'm pretty sure his family/friends are not members of this board, so expressing the truth, rather than sugar-coating things should be okay. You want to act as though this is the Tribune or SunTimes, go ahead. The truth is a few dozen people post here and it's HIGHLY unlikely anyone who actually knew Hawks will ever visit the site.
