The Mothership will bury the story somehow. Don't be surprised if Harry gets moved from Chicago for a while.

They're gonna need a bigger boat.

I used to live near Orland Park - the biggest problem: NO BARS/CLUBS to go to back in the day - unless you think you're gonna get some strange at Fat Sam's. You'll get something strange growing on your appendage... that's about it.

Schaumburg? I got hit by a drunk driver on Dec. 23rd in the late 80s and the cop let the guy go, didn't even test him - even though he said he had the left turn arrow coming out of 34's. There was no green arrow on the light - the stupid drunk had time to get his story straight and even though he was looking at the intersection for 15 minutes - he couldn't even make up a good lie.

LOL @ Aggravated... Only old timers use the term "copper" when referring to a cop.

ESPN 1000 will do nothing to Harry. As we've discussed before, for some reason, they fear his father. I remember Adam Delevitte's quote in the paper when Harry had the problem in the Sox clubhouse. Adam said something like "It's just Harry. He's just loud. If you don't know him, you're not used to it." Something like that. They have to defend and protect him.

I predict ESPN 1000 will release this statement.

"The cops just don't understand. They don't know Harry like we know Harry. A .131 for Harry is different than a .131 for other people. You just have to know Harry. It's just Harry. It's a big misunderstanding."

Interesting that next Friday they're promoting 'hang out with your favorite host' at three different watering holes across Chicago - tied into the NCAA Tourney probably.

new lenox, well...if you're not paying attention there you'll just hit a deer or drive into a wetland or a ditch anyway.

Schaumburg isn't bad if you're on the main roads, oddly enough. Just don't go to the White Castle on Golf by Hoffman High School...it's right across the street from HEPD.

Now, if you want to talk evil bastards, I live in Palatine, for fucks sake. I was walking out to get my smokes out of my car at Nellies one night, and a cop followed me through the parking garage...dickhead asked me if I was planning to leave when I was walking back to the bar...I said no, I'm cabbing it home when I do.

Buffalo Grove is the worst. My cousin had an early flight at O'Hare and a cop pulled him over on his way there at about four in the morning. The cop insisted he must be drunk since no one would be out driving sober at 4:00 a.m.

Biggest issue I had with KDiddits post was that people who don;t drink often come across as "Oh, I'm better than you because you drink," and thats exactly how is initial post of, "as someone who doesn't drink..." came across.

I don't post on here very often, but check the site almost daily and enjoy the conversation. I don't know anyone on this board personally, so sorry if I offend anyone with this post. But, I find it kind of sad that people are not a little more outraged at Harry's behavior. By reading some posts, it appears that some people equate DUI with a parking violation and that "everyone has done it". Well, I haven't and I am by no means a non-drinker. It really isn't that hard. There are these things called cabs, trains, getting a ride with a friend, and sleeping it off. I did the last one the night Harry could not say when. I have friends that have gotten DUIs and all of them say that it was stupid. I try not to associate with people that tihnk it is ok to willingly endanger the lives of others. I have bailed people out for DUIs and driven people to work that had their licenses suspended, but none of those people would act like what they did was ok. Sorry if I offended, just hit a nerve. I am glad that cops around the area have steppted up patrols..maybe then dumbasses will stop driving when they shouldn't.

BG cops are assholes in more ways than one. I had many a run in while just walking to my car in high school.

I don't think drunk driving is any more dangerous now than it's ever been but it's only in about the last twenty years or so that we act as if driving drunk is equal to murder. No, it's not a parking ticket violation, but a guy that knocks a few back and drives himself home without incident isn't exactly Charles Manson either.

i doubt anyone is in favor of driving drunk. the cops have stepped up patrols for one reason $$ . all the villages and the city are strapped for cash and dui = revenue .

The state gets most of the revenue from the DUIs from what I was told by the cop, not sure how true this is.

Funniest one I heard was a friend of mine who got pulled over, I think on Palatine Road or Lake Cook, she was going the speed limit and everyone around her was speeding about 11pm.

When she asked the policeman why she was pulled over, he told her that he suspected she might be drunk because nobody goes the speed limit on that road.

I know an Arlington cop I used to drink with that would use that as his basis for pulling someone over.

But if that's the case, isn't that turning the entire concept of the DUI danger on its head? Here's a guy you think is drunk driving safely and following all the rules and there are guys you believe to be sober driving dangerously. Is the danger the problem or the fact that someone had drinks?

Some poeple get DUIs. Some people have a few "I could have gotten a DUI" stories. Harry, based on what people say of him, probably has 500-600 "I could have gotten a DUI" stories in his life. Maybe more. That makes him worse than most.

I think he's worse than most just because he's Harry.

I asked that question once. His response was something along the lines of, "the drunks tend to be the ones trying really hard to follow the proper rules of the road". I don't know if that statistically works, but that was what I got.

Many times the police officers are a problem just as much as those offenders that are actually driving drunk. It often makes driving through any of the areas you have all mentioned a nerve-racking experience late at night.

I've been a firefighter/paramedic for 17 years now and have seen the damage that regular folks who have had "one or two" too many drinks have done to people that were just minding their own business. I never feel bad for someone who gets caught driving drunk. I actually consider them rather lucky. Lucky that they didn't hurt or kill someone. If you decide to get behind the wheel when intoxicated you automatically assume that risk of getting pulled over and all tha comes with it. No one should feel sorry for you.

I never said Charles Manson, but drinking and driving is wrong....plain and simple. The only thing wrong with knocking a few back and driving home is that when you do that, you put others in harms way. It is not a victimless crime. Joe, I guess I am glad you live down where you do. The less drunks on the road up here the better.

I think it's interesting that the state doesn't seem to focus on the possibilty of killing someone while drunk driving. There commercials are all geared toward the "getting arrested" side of the act. It's always, "drink and drive, and you'll get caught". Same way with seatbelts, not about safety, just about getting a ticket.
The state just wants the money.

Agree completely. Really hope Harry gets fired for this. He should have been fired last year after the thing in the White Sox clubhouse.

The wife has no control over Harry. How many 50-year-olds, with a wives and kids, are at games or bars 4 or 5 nights a week? Most can't do it cuz of work. Harry's 2-6 afternoon show allows him this life style. Who does Harry run with? Does he have a "rat pack" of guys his age? Does he just pop into places alone and hang with the regular bar flies that he's come to know through the years? Does he go out solo and hope to be recognized so he'll have drinking buddies for the night? How does it work with him?

Didn't Mac get pulled over a little while back because he was texting while driving?

According to a study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) a comparative study of texting while driving vs. drunk driving statistics revealed that texting while driving is even more dangerous than drunk driving. Around 28 percent of all crashes in 2008 were caused by drivers in the age group of 18 and 29, who admitted to texting while driving.

I'm not saying drunk driving is ever acceptable. But lets not start throwing around the "murderer" analogies just yet.
