Are you saying the board as a whole is beginning to think that "it" is something that it is not?

I'm somewhat serious because it seems to me this board is different than it was last spring when I first started reading it. It seem less confrontational but I just figured that is because I personally feel more involved in the board.

I'm interested if you are serious with your observation or just messing around TMC.

I am serious.

Spaulding was discussing lack of personal responsibility as a significant social problem. If she sees her "welfare queen" as an anomaly rather than the norm, why would she mention her at all?

Perhaps because, oh I don't know, she needed an example of someone who lacked personal responsibility, and this example came to mind? Could it just be that? Could it just be that her point was that lack of personal responsibility is a problem, and that one of the way it manifests itself is via welfare waste?

Oh, please. The factual "example" was nothing more than a reactionary stereotype I've heard hundreds of times over the past two decades. If you think that was a coincidence, you are extremely naive.

Well, at least you're honest about the fact that you're reading into what was written. Don't act like that's what she wrote, and I'm fine with it. I could just as easily go the other way with it, and say that your reaction makes you a bleeding heart who refuses to see any of the problems inherent in our welfare system. Probably wouldn't be true, but a fair interpretation of what's written apparently isn't a priority for you.

Edit: By the way, the fact that she's explicitly said that's not what she meant means you're calling her a liar by sticking with your alternate interpretation.

As I've already pointed out that she jumped to conclusions about the person she claimed to describe, I think my assumption is merited. And again, the repetition of a stereotype rarely occurs by accident.

As I've already indicated, I think it's more likely she didn't mean exactly what she said.

I think we have a voice. but, that's about it.
for example: I feel no responsibility whatsoever for shows getting cancelled. it's not my decision.

i think it's cool that Mac has used the board to make MJH "interactive" in a way.

i do think the board is changing. you cannot deny it. people are becoming more than just names and avatars.
people have typed "I can't wait to meet...." in many different threads about many different individuals here. All of which, coincidentally!?!?! are some of the more active members, emailers, callers, etc....

a good number of these folks have hung out already. that number will increase tomorrow and continue to do so in the subsequent early May weekends...

how crazy? :?

so,
we leave it be and move forward with that understanding.
or
take a vacation.

I remember the tail end of those days too, Coach...that's when I used to get pounded here. :)

Hey Mac!

When you get back from your vacation, can you edit this thread and re-name it: "CATFIGHT?"

Thanks,
K.V.

Even if that were so, do you dispute that such cases exist?

I agree, but that's insufficient to call someone's integrity into question, IMO. It wasn't a fair comment, to me, unless there was a repeated history of such comments by the poster.

She's telling you now what she meant then. There's no need to guess what she meant, unless you believe she is deranged or lying.

I think this thread should be renamed Chicago Post Exchange.

and moved out of MJH entirely.. I can barely remember why we were here. Oh yea.. Mac solicited content.. Stu said something that Mac got pissy about.. the board collectively gasped when Mac said he was leaving his house to start his day (take a vacation) and then.. the wheels came off.

She said I took her statement out of context. I disagree. I think she simply meant to say something other than what she did. She seems to think this is possible. So what's the point?

To move this thread in yet another direction - Hey Killer, any word on the little one yet.

Should I start calling you Ken Mattingly? It probably will work out best for both you and Mattingly.

She said this:
Quote:
Possible. I don't do a good job of explaining myself. I feel too wordy.

It seems to me that she, much like myself, believes you're misunderstanding her (more specifically, that you're reading into what she wrote). The 'possible' seems to be a concession that she could possibly be at fault, for the purposes of fairness; this nicety seems to be a one-way street in the exchange between you two. I'm not trying to bust your balls or anything, I'm just saying that it isn't fair to make declarations on her moral fiber based on your interpretation of one statement she made once upon a time.

I guess the name fits! All is quiet on the KV front...although not for lack of trying. We were in Labor & Delivery twice over the weekend because the contractions were coming fast and furious. The doctor told us to go both times and both times we were sent home. Nothing since. :?

If I had committed for the outing, my wife would most likely be going into labor at about 2am Wednesday morning. As it stands, I have tickets to the second Bulls home game for round 2. Even money says she has the baby that day now (I don't think I could miss the final game of their second sweep of the playoffs)!

As for the outing itself, I think you got the better golf option in Donspiracy. I love the game, but I only get out about as often as Reason or Nas have kids, that is, about once a year.

Good luck and kick WR & Co's ass!

I realize I'm fortunate that my household can make ends meet. My husband was in an accident not too long ago. It would not be unthinkable for me to apply for some sort of public assistance while sorting out finances (if possible) if something were to happen to my husband.

What struck me about that day at the Jewel was I drive a car that is 6 years old and we cannot afford to get a new one. There was a woman there driving a nicer car who was paying with government assistance. It made me wonder about her priorities. That's all. I also mentioned my cousins who are from middle class backgrounds who are foolishly squandering their opportunites because they are lazy and immature. The point I was trying to get across people need to take more responsibility for themselves on both sides of the spectrum. People who are not helping others should and people who are not helping themselves should. We all need to work toward the same goal of making our society a better place. Not lay blame, point fingers, take from others or keep from others.

If you're crap stirring fine keep on entertaining yourself. If you're serious I am saddened that some one who seems to be as educated as yourself can make such a judgemental generalization about me from a post I believe you misunderstood or I did not clearly state what I intended. You are free to think whatever you want about how I feel. You're wrong. Keep hammering away. I'm just not sure what you get out of it. If you like making me look stupid it's really not that much of a challenge.

I don't think anybody should turn their back on anybody that truly needs help, assistance, support etc. It doesn't make our society better and that's really what our goal should be.

I really don't want this to continue. If you respond and I don't it means I'm done.

Boy, miss a little, miss a lot.

After reading through this entire thread, I am saddened on many levels.
