I'm getting scared. I'm starting to agree with Mr. Reason on a regular basis.

I would be afraid if I were you.
Maybe you could use some of that there introspective self-analysis, too. Do you have an extended hiatus coming up?

I think that Mac gets a huge slide for much of his behavior because 1.) he has been candid with the board, and on the board, about the goings-on behind the scenes in sports radio, and 2.) there are some well respected Mac partisans who are on this board as well. But would anyone get away with any of this? Wouldn't this be more evidence of Mike North's inability to take criticism, or Mike Murphy being an a-hole to fellow employees, or Dan Bernstein being a stuck-up snob, or Tom Waddle acting holier-than-thou or (insert common complaint about Chicago sports radio analyst here). I'm not saying all the above things aren't true (different topics, different debates) but wouldn't Mac pretty much be branded all of the above if he were anyone else?

I can't argue with you Irish Boy.
The Mac ALS is by far the largest contingent on the board for any host. That may be why Mac considered being so open and active with the board to begin with.
I'm not casting asparagus on any of you Mac ALSers out there, just and observation. I welcome Mac's return just as much as you.

One of three people: Jeff Schwartz, Ed Sherman or Phil Rosenthal

I would guess that most MJH listeners who happened to get the arbitron rating invitation used it as an opportunity to show their displeasure. They wil win the ratings again in the next book, but if ESPN continues to poorly manage problems like this, then it is only a matter of time before the audience gets turned off.

Message to ESPN 1000: There is no excuse to have the biggest draw in your station off the air for a month.

I look at it from Mac's angle as well. Sure, ESPN may have dumb rules, but I'm pretty sure Mac knows them pretty well given his problems there. If he wants to stay on the air there, no matter how stupid they are, he needs to follow them.

As far as ratings, maybe with all the problems on ESPN 1000, people would just rather listen to a show without the drama that Mac brings. I will be interested to see if they regain the ratings next period.

I agree with this. It's no coincidentce that both Mac and Abatacola, two semi-regular posters here, are beloved on this board, and I think they, especially Mac, will always get a built-in defense on this board because they do post here.

Nice shot, Teddy.

Actually I may have added a little bit to Teddy's column. I added what he was probably thinking. ;)

Most talk show guys are like North. Mac's a smart version of a talk radio host. He's cocky, and sometimes very self-unaware (you have to be in that business). But whereas I think he slips up on occasion, I think North does it totally on purpose to ruffle feathers *all* the time. North knows what he's doing when he's "just sayin'". It's an act. I get the feeling Mac does too sometimes but he also has moments of honesty that end up hurting/pissing off people. The "bitch" comment I believe being one of them.

Mac reminds me more of Howard Stern than he does Mike North.

When you lose almost a third of your audience, something major is very wrong. The tired bits, the overuse of dumbass, no talent, parody songs, the arrogance of MJH basically telling people that if you don't like it, don't listen. Well, apparently quite a few people took them up on it. This show is in very serious trouble. It is hard to regain listeners when they give up on your show. Maybe the coming football season will help, but I think the show needs major changes to become fresh and interesting again.
I know it's supposed to be "the corner tavern" , but sitting in a bar and talking to the same guys everyday for years gets old.

The question should be "Where did those listeners go"? Did B&B get a lot better overnight? I for one think their show has taken steps back and I just can't see that 2:00 pm start giving them that big of an edge. The White Sox might of helped a bit but I just don't see why B&B HAS gained steam. The show is better without Bernstein .

A few thoughts:

1) I don't think it was a veiled shot at Harry.

2) This ratings book will be all the incentive needed to begin the show at 2.

3) This should be B and B strong books. They are much better than MJH at analyzing both basketball and baseball. MJH's strenght is football season. I'd wait to see what happens before I'd sound any alarms.

4) Was the SCORE gain directly proportional to the ESPN loss in listenership? I am thinking that with Wrigleyville atwitter over their warm and fuzzies, WGN might have been able to steal some of the sports radio listenership from both stations.

5) Finally, and most importantly, the biggest question from the Greenstein column is, what is a Chicago Baptism? Is that anything like a Cleveland Steamer?

B&B have been less mean & nasty lately since Paltalk started, which is when their show is at its best (don't know if that's the reason) and I think Paltalk does help bring in listeners and keep them on the Score. Also, how could the Sox have helped the Score? They've been awful lately. If anything this should show that the Score is in an even bigger lead than what the numbers came out to. I also think DP's absence likely hurt ESPN. Even though he's terrible he has an audience and his fill ins were pretty bad.

"The Gridiron Assassin"I don't view it that way... he's talking hypothetically. Everybody knows they're not even supposed to drink alcohol at remotes. Even though I thought they were 'events'. If that ruffles somebody's feathers, then so be it.

Grid put the bong down..You of all people should know that Mac has called Harry out on the air for being late to production meetings , being a tool to interns and wanting to drink during remotes.

You know the show better than anyone and I thought you would be the guy to point this out.

This would explain Harry's comments at the end of the show today. I will bet anyone this will be discussed.
