Wow Spaulding, now I know how JFK felt outside the book depository. A shot from nowhere.

Nice touch with the picture. ;)

"Humble barkeep"

From merriamwebster.com
Humble

1: not proud or haughty : not arrogant or assertive
2: reflecting, expressing, or offered in a spirit of deference or submission <a humble apology
3 a: ranking low in a hierarchy or scale: insignificant, unpretentious b: not costly or luxurious

These qualities are present in Mac's initial post.

What annoyed the hell out of me last week was when Harry would do a spot in the morning (that he obviously taped the day before) saying what was going to be on MJH later that day. Two days in a row he said 'We'll be talking about the cubs victory". The cubs lost both times. It's annoying and unprofessional to ASSume the cubs would win and then use it as a reason to listen to the show that day.

Yes, because he really isn't entertaining.

What you fail to see is he is doing what he is supposed to do, which is to provoke a response whether good or bad from the fans of the show. It seems to me that if you don't like it why do you listen everyday & can give such an accurate account of his miscues? I wish he would tone down the cubs hype but some of the people on this board hype Mac & Jurko just as much. :?

I don't listen when Mac isn't there to control Harry and when the response many have is to change stations when he is on, well, I don't consider that a well thought out plan.

Today's show has been music to my ears without Harry's homerisms.

I was trying to think about why I like Harry. I actually like the almanac segment. But I guess I most like when Mac and Jurko pick on him. And while I enjoyed the show today, I'm not sure I would enjoy it as much without Harry.

Oh, and I also like B Stories. Mostly just for the throaty interludes.

B STORIES!!!!!!!

if harry was a white sox fan, would he still have so many haters? I doubt it. for people who hate the cubs, harry seems to be a case study in affirming their hatred.

edit to clarify that I'm not a harry fan...he name drops just as badly/frequently as mac, and his desperation to be liked/respected is awkward to listen to. jurko never says much of anything, and mac is somewhat of a bore. they are smart to avoid sports because they don't know/follow sports well, but listening to 3 guys talk about 70s rock, beer, steaks and their kids is not my idea of a fun time. I could go get that (and a similar quality of sports analysis) from any corner bar any time I want to.

Your doubt would be incorrect. I have hated Harry since the first time Mac had him in studio to promote a stand up gig back at 670. I laughed when dahl made fun of his tight jerseys that he tucked into his beltless pants when he first started at 1000.

there's been many of cubs fans (here and callers/emailers to the show) that have told harry to cool it regarding the team of destiny crap. besides, harry's a bisoxual. outside of 6 games a year, he "roots for the sox" so that gives me no real reason to hate him. but when he blindly slobbers all over everything that is cubdumb, it makes for bad radio

That gives me a reason to hate Harry. I despise fair weather fans.

As hard as it is for some people to believe, there are fans of both teams. I don't know if that makes them fair weather fans. This doesn't include me of course. I hate the Cubs with every fiber of my being...

Oh, I believe they exist. I have a brother-in-law who is one. I just don't like it. Particularly when they make jokes about one team when they are struggling and I have to remind them that they are supposedly a fan of both teams. Besides, wouldn't a biSOXual be a fan of both the white sox and red sox not the sox and cubs?

Yeah that is a really annoying trait. You CANNOT root for two teams, it makes no sense and is just plain stupid.

These guys are especially the worst of the worst. I have a friend that does that, and he was acting all happy ala bigfan that the Sox were struggling and I told him next time we get back to the WS, which will be before the Cubs do again, he is not allowed to root for them. Those type of fans are idiots.

Yeah alot of people share that opinion, I personally dont. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out Im not on the team, but I find it an easy way to let other people know you are a fan of the team. Rooting for two teams, especially who happen to be inter city rivals, is much more of an annoyance in my opinion than being a fan who types we in reference to his favorite team.

...the mice have played. I couldn't help myself Thursday morning and checked in here to see what was happening at the Emily Barr Center. I was disappointed, but certainly not surprised, to read your thumbs downs on the ill-fated "dog bits." They later were explained to me by the stout and powerful one, Mr. Adam Delevitt.

It's abundantly clear Harry enjoys "spreading his wings" while the Good Kid and I are gone. We can't mandate he takes time off when we do, even though knocking out vacation time simultaneously was the dynamic on which the three of us agreed a couple years ago.

I have no "planned" time away until the Thanksgiving long weekend and the end of the year, but I heavy-handedly will stress to the producers and to LJC and AD we cannot afford the Harry & Spike routine to continue. I no longer will accept "it was only a minute or two" as justification for a miserable bit, and that includes all three of us, not just Harry.

Your thoughts on the show, and not only this past week, have been read and processed by your humble head barkeep and I will address the direction of the show in a more lengthy post in the next couple of days. Thank you, as always, for your suggestions; they are valuable to me.

Lets see....Mac has never had a bad idea and Harry is a moron. Wish I could sit there and look over my co-workers like that. Harry is solid in my opinion, not capable of running a show, but at least he is in control and isnt getting suspended every other month because of lack of self control.

For a guy who has been suspended at least 3 times, which hurts the show, I find it laughable that Mac feels he can sit there and judge anything. Go a year without getting a unpaid vacation Mac, then I will take you serious.

Love the show, hate the double standard.

So Mac has to keep his mouth shut and let Harry do bad radio? Can Jurko tell Harry he can't do dog bits?

I'm not saying Mac is always right or his suspensions were a good thing but really what does that have to do with Harry subjecting the audience to unfunny bits?

Mac has had PLENTY of bad bits, its just not Harry who stalls the show, Mac and Jurko have done it plenty of times.

Like I said, like the show, but Mac might want to look in the mirror and see what he can improve about his approach before trying to fix others.

I expect a certain amount of hits and misses. I can handle a bad bit every now and then. I'll accept unintentional bad radio and won't hold it against any of them.

Over the past few years Harry has seemed to have waited til he can't be stopped to intentionally drag out a bad bit or make one up. I won't accept intentional bad radio. There is a difference.

Not quite sure I follow the logic on your argument there. Have I sputtered? Yes. Have my suspensions hurt the show? Yes. The reality of the show's pecking order, however, is independent of those mistakes. While I value the input of all the guys who work on the show - and those who post here - the final decisions are mine. If you don't understand why I would have that right, perhaps somebody can give you a bit of history on who's done what over the past 20+ years.

I hear alot about Mac's suspension(s). I haven't paid attention enough to know about all of them. But I do remember last year's suspension, which I believe Harry was also suspended....correct me if I'm wrong, I don't really know. And then this past one, for calling somebody a bitch on the air...which is nothing outrageous, but the bitch took offense i guess. How many more are there? This past suspension seemed to be based more on some behind the scenes power trip BS than the on-air incident. In other words, the "bitch" suspension doesn't really reflect too poorly on Mac in my eyes.

I realize Mac's a moody guy, but that edgy personality is the reason he's on the air. I find it difficult to tear somebody down for the same reason he was built up. Mac has done and will do lots of bad bits as well as good bits. The difference is that if it's Mac's idea and it sucks, Mac will say it sucks....eventually. Harry doesn't have the ability to even consider an opinion other than his own... and considering his background in horseracing, I have a hard time understanding his affinity for beating a dead horse with his bits
