How about a local band that is signed with a major label - the Lovehammers (aka Marty Casey & Lovehammers). They have produced a few cds plus all of their songs are on I-tunes (or whatever it's called). All four members are local guys (Hickory Hills & Oak Lawn).

I met the lead singer - if that what you call him - after one of their shows in Wrigleyville. The dude thought he was the king of the castle. One of my buddies had a beer in his hand and the D-bag grabbed it and started drinking it. Who does that? No, no chance we feature Lovehammers.

Well, I tried at least. But how did Marty get into the MJH golf outing then?

A)Maybe the previous EP liked him
B) they were desperate for C-list celebrities
C) He paid $250 like the rest of the listeners.

What a douche move!

They used our rehearsal space a couple of times about a year ago (friend of a friend know them - I know, Button Forty-Eight), and they left a hand-written set list behind. We jokingly were going to sell it on eBay.

If you are taking ideas for bands to feature, I submit two of the best live bands going today: Los Lobos, and the Black Crowes. Widespread Panic might be good, too.

Ok first of all..... let's all agree that Aerosmith is America's greatest Rock N Roll Band. There really is no debate there :D

Lenny Kravitz? Are you serious??? Lenny Kravitz??????? I put Lenny Kravitz on a level of no talent ass clowness that rivals John Mayer (Nobody will ever take that top spot away from John)

He's completely a product of the "my mommy was famous so I know people who gave me the marketing push and airplay to become famous" world. At first he was a nice novelty (timeline early 90s). OK dude has some decent riffs and aw how cool, he plays all the instruments on the recordings himself. What the lemming music fans of the world didn't stop to realize (and I do realize that there are many people on this board who do have actual music taste / talent; and I officially absolve you of all "lemmingness") was that he's kinda ok AT BEST on all of them. Talk about a guy to use to teach a 4th grader songs on a guitar. Learn 4 chords and you can play a Lenny song. Drums... please!!! my damn cat could play better drums than Lenny. Hell MEG WHITE can play better drums than Lenny! Keys.... "duhhhh I think I'll just bang 8th notes on whatever chord I happen to have played on the guitar recently". Certainly doesn't conjure up images of Billy Joel.

Live Show.... FavreFan you're showing about as much of a brain in here as you do in Keeping Score's thread. A better live show than Aerosmith? When they were touring in support of Nine Lives nonetheless??? Dude did you even watch their set? Were you too drunk to remember the concert?? Were you too young to remember the concert? Hell I've had Gene Tatooed members of the KISS army after that show tell me that Aero was unreal live. And thats from devotees of the biggest spectacle band on the planet.

Dear god man. Has cheering for the Packers and Brett Fav-ruh really caused that much brain damage. ?? I respect everyone's right not to like Aerosmith, and their right to call them sell outs for the pop friendly stuff of the mid / late 90's, but PLEASE. Without Aero you'd have a whole lota bands that never existed.

And yes, I do concede that that stupid Armageddon songis a steaming pile of dog shit, and even I as an Aero worshiper punch the button when it comes on the raido.

When considering 'body of work' - I don't see how Aerosmith wouldn't be considered the USA's greatest rock-n-roll band - perhaps Rush would be Canada's - and I'm not considering The Eagles a 'rock-n-roll' band.

Other groups that deserve mention:

Van Halen (even though the brothers VH weren't born in the US)

Guns - n - Roses (not around long enough - but they burned brightly while on top)

Nirvana / Pearl Jam / Soundgarden / Alice in Chains (too closely associated with one another - and Seattle - but they were all great in their own right)

Doors? Sorry, I just don't get their 'geniusness'

Kiss, Styx and Kansas - keep 'em.

Here's a list I just found, and scoffed at Number One

The 31 Greatest American Rock Bands of All Time

31. MJH Parody Song Crooners
30. Earth, Wind and Fire
29. MC5
28. Lynyrd Skynrd
27. The Byrds
26. Fugazi
25. The Miracles / Smokey Robinson and the Miracles
24. Rage Against the Machine
23. Patti Smith Group
22. Soundgarden
21. Creedence Clearwater Revival
20. KISS
19. Crosby, Stills, Nash (and Young)
18. Van Halen
17. The Stooges / Iggy and the Stooges
16. Sonic Youth
15. Blondie
14. The Red Hot Chili Peppers
13. Pearl Jam
12. The Beach Boys
11. Metallica
10. The Pixies
9. R.E.M.
8. The Grateful Dead
7. Parliament/Funkadelic
6. The Velvet Underground
5. The Doors
4. Sly and the Family Stone
3. The Ramones
2. Aerosmith
1. Nirvana

...sorry, the Byrds and the Beach Boys can't be in the team picture if the Eagles aren't in front of them.

How Nirvana can be rated above The Pixies is incomprehensible.

Greatest American Rock & Roll band

Great barroom discussion topic.

I persoanlly put The Ramones at #1. Nice to see they were #3 on that list.

What, no Allman Brothers?

I'm shocked that Stevie Starlight is nowhere to be found on that list. A Chicagoland original. ;)

Not my favorite band at all, but if you consider body of work, record sales, touring, and IMPACT TO THE RECORDING INDUSTRY, Metallica is easily America's greatest rock and roll band. Again, not my fav, but they've accomplished miles more than Aerosmith. I'd argue the same with R.E.M. and Van Halen as well... It doesn't matter that the brothers VH were born elsewhere, they grew up and formed the band here... they're an American band.

I know thee's a lot of Aerosmith love here on the board but they're:
"oh-ver-ated clap! clap! clapclapclap!"

There's a name I haven't heard in 15-20 years.

"X-rated rock & roll"
