Harry didn't call him a quitter, however he did sneak in a great question:

Sanders indicated he was losing his desire during his last season.

If this indeed is the case, then he's a quitter. He never gave the Lions management any idea he was contemplating retiring. That's just wrong.

Then to compound matters, he refused to give the Lions a bonus he had just received (when he signed his last contract). The Lions took him to court and he lost. He then paid them back one year at a time until the conclusion of his contract - one year at a time, I'm sure 'just in case he regained his desire to play' - ya right.

And just so you don't think I'm a hypocrite, Michael Jordan pulled the same shit before his first retirement. I'm sure he gets a mulligan because his father was just murdered. Then of course you have the whole 'gambling suspension' conspiracy theorists out there. Who knows... I'm still pissed he stole the White Sox thunder, as they were in the playoffs at the time.

Yep. We all knew he wasn't going to come out and say quitter, and thats fine, but he certainly didn't talk near as rough as he did yesterday. Big thumbs down to Harry.

He knew. It was a big FU to Detroit management. It wasn't right, but I might do the same thing if I were in his shoes. He handle the rest with quite a bit of class.

It's hard to regard Harry with much credibility to begin with, but when a radio host is highly critical of someone and then tones it down considerably when that person is a guest, it makes the host look pretty bad.

I kind of agree but what was he suppose to do? Say Barry I think you're a quitter...What do you think of that? It would make him (and Mac and Jurko) look like a holes. I don't blame them for not making it an issue. It would be bad radio.

Some people consider Traschel a quitter. He's not near the level of Sanders.

I did like hearing from Sanders. I was glad Harry wasn't throwing his usual bouquets and I thought the interview was okay.

You can get around it in other ways. "Barry, anything you want to say as to the timing of your retirement? Was there a reason you left the Lions so close to the start of the season?"

I agree. Harry could have pressed it a little more without being a complete dick. In fact, I wish he would have. Barry deserves it.

He claims he knew all along that he was going to retire. Yet he waited until the end of training camp to make the announcement. That's crap. That is the definition of being a quitter.

The only problem is that it happened so long ago. It feels like ancient history to argue about it. I think one more comment/question from Harry would have been sufficient: "Barry, you left your team without a running back a week before the season began...do you regret it?" If he says no, follow it up with "Why?" Then move on.

That's how Russert would've done it.

Its not really even about debating something that happened a decade ago, Finji. Its that Harry talked it up so much on Tuesday's show (and many other times) only to back down today. But your point is valid, talking like he did the other day, he should have pushed the issue more.

Romeo Crennel could say he is taking the browns to the superbowl or going to drop the kids off at the pool. Either way, he's going to take a shit. It doesn't matter how he says it, it's the same thing.

I thought Mac was kind of a tool to Jurko when Mac told Jurko to move on getting Sanders personal thoughts on Jurko's team keeping Sanders to negative 1 yard in the 1994 playoffs.

I'd much rather hear inside chatter and thoughts during one's career then speculation regarding the Superbowl or stoopid questions like "So Barry which running backs do you follow these days?" That was dumb. What's he going to say? "Yeah, I love Aaron Stecker. I'm so glad he was able to show what he's got down the stretch?" No, of course he's going to say LT and AD.

There's no defense for Harry's actions.
He comes on the air and makes his opinions known, then he declines to share them -- with the same amount of intensity -- when the subject is right next to him.
This is maybe why Harry should have kept his trap shut in the first place.

Agreef Finji. That would have been fine. But Harry didn;t even have the stones to do so. Part of the problem with this is as you said, it was a long time ago....yet Harry still get so damned RILED UP over it. Harry has made it a topic that still holds some weight on that show because of passion for hating Barry over it.
