Doesn't Mariotti reserve his most venomous hate for jerry reinsdorf due to
reinsdorf basically putting both the Bulls and White Sox in a profit maximizing mode since the 2005 title?

Reinsdorf, it seems, is content with having won the Jordan era titles and the 2005 series and now wants to milk both franchises for all the profit he can.

I guess it's his prerogative, but

Rick Morissey turns a phrase much better than Mariotti, and isn't an ass with pointless, repetitive columns to boot.

The idea of a good columnist is to solicit emotion / response. Jay finds a way to do that eventhough his views differ from most.

I often hear this stated, but I don't necessarily agree with the premise. If all it takes is too solicit emotion, then Mike North would be top dog. Hell, anyone can write something which generates a response...is Nas a great columnist because he sings Rex's praise? or me for supporting B&B?
or Ike South? IMO, a great columnist provides insight in a manner which causes you to think about what you just read. Strong emotions may arise, but they are not the sole result of the piece.

That is perhaps true...& a really sad statement. :(

Jay is like the thin, acne-laden teen who has been bullied by the high school jocks.
The column is his way of firing back at those who have wronged him in the past. He's vindictive, hauling his grudges around wherever he goes. The guy needs Hannibal's elephant's to tote this baggage.
Columnists try to engage their readers by eliciting emotions, but why do these bursts have to come from the angst-ridden realm.
Columns should also be able to make you laugh, pause for reflection, tug at one's compassionate side or even shed a tear.
All too often, that's not the case with Jay. It's a shame, because the man's work flows. It's an easy read. It's just too much of an revenge-filled spew fest against a few people. Anymore, I come away from his columns asking, why is this dude so made at THESE guys. Jay needs to move on, and expand his focus.
