meaningful schmeaninful. I am a soacial worker and I make CRAP for money. When you live paycheck to paycheck meaningful loses some of it's appeal, trust me.

I have a Bobby Jenks jersey and my fiance has a pink Sox jersey because of winning a contest.

MJH has also taught me how to love and that I am worthy of love.

The most significant effect the show has had on me, is reduced production on the job. Seriously-when I listen to music (CD's or FM radio) I get more work done. I know for a fact that I get less done if I listen to MJH. I think it's because to at least a slight degree, I am distracted. My mind is on the subject or subjects being discussed, rather than being almost completely on work. But, I find myself willing to sacrifice a bit of production, in the name of intelligent, (well, sometimes) topical discussion.

OMG, quit f'ng whining about how tough a job you have.
People on this board have far harder jobs than yours for far less pay. Be grateful for what you have.

To "The Score is doomed" guy: I don't think Mac is complaining about his job being tough-read again. He is lamenting the fact that his job has little importance. He's not curing cancer, putting pedofiles in jail, putting out fires, etc... When you sense that you are not doing anything meaningful, perhaps there is little satisfaction in doing that job. Myself- I would focus on the fact that I'm well paid for doing something that is fun, with plenty of opportunity to play morning golf in the warm weather months and opportunity to get free tickets to ballgames frequently. But then again, I actually talk on the radio for only a couple minutes at a time, whereas doing it for hours daily might make it less enjoyable and more of a job. Still, I would think that as jobs go it's pretty sweet. Prep for an hour or two, by reading the sports pages and maybe watching ESPN, and discussing it with co-hosts, then do a 4 hour work day (minus about an hour or more of commercials and updates). That doesn't seem too bad.

He was pointing out the pitfalls, something every job has. Baesball players make millions to play a game...but they travel and are away from family a lot. There's pros and cons to every job.

There are those who see the glass half full...

There are those who see the glass half empty...

And then there are guys like SID who break the glass themselves, pour the the beverage all over the sidewalk for spite, and then point fingers at those who see the glass half full or empty...

Frank I know you aren't necessarily making the baseball players have it rough argument but that is such a big ass truck load of crap. My husband travels between 3 cities every week 5 days a week. Sometimes he works weekends and he makes far less than 390K which I think is the league minimum this year. Baseball players are a bunch of namby pamby crybabies and they can go screw themselves. It's a hot button issue for me.

Mac in the grand scheme of things no your job isn't that meaningful. Keep in mind you do find others ways of making an impact and you job allows you to do that. It gives you a stage to raise money and awarness for autism. You also entertain people on their way home from work or after a bad day. It may not be all that good to you but to the person listening it is. I'm sure your job has its pitfals and dealing with management and restrictions is tough but it's not all for naught.

Sometimes a job is had to put food on the table and a roof over your head and nothing more. Some define themselves by their job and others have little connection to it. It means very little. Of course, I say this all, having no job.

Mac, the way you have to look at is that you have a very well paying job which allows you to do things for those around you that not all of us are able to. An example being you buying a car for your son, and you even mentioned on air that your father wasnt able to do that as easily. By choosing the profession you have, and excelling at it, you have the resources necessary to positively effect many of those around you.

I'd say earning a paycheck and raising a family is meaningful. Moreover, you bring a little joy in someone's life for a half hour commute... it's more than I can say I did today.

I think Mac might have been being facetious but I think, unless you are in the educational or public health and safety area, your work is as "meaningful" as you care to view it. If Mac wants to view it as just talking about sports or as a vehicle to employ some people, entertain, and bring awareness to topics that he feels are important, it his own perspective that will frame it.

The same with an office worker that pushes papers or adds numbers all day. Maybe it seems "meaningless" but in the end, you're getting people paid, creating a product that people need, providing a service that people require, etc.

Since most workers are "lining the pockets of corporate America" in one way or another, the perspective you have on your own job defines it. And if you don't like it or what you perceive it to be, do something else.

I get paid to talk about sports all day too! It just turns out that my boss doesn't realize it yet.

Mac, you should know better than to make a statement like that on this board or in the media (just in case you have the urge to do so). Are you serious? If you'd like to work any of our jobs for a week or even a day and see what life is outside the world of radio pm me and I'll arrange it.
I too spend far too much time on this board and listening to talk radio and decide before your post to cut the cord.

I wish you good luck Mac with your difficult job making six figures and hope you find something meaningful to do with your life. You have a powerful media tool and maybe your not using it to the full power you can to make a mark on society. But you have made a mark with the above statement!

Meaningful is boring. How much infrastructure can one design before becoming bored with work that protects public safety? lame....
I figure I have about 8 more years of this before I'm done professionally engineering.
life will begin at 40.

I'll have to get back to you at 4:00 when my 11 year old gets home so I can come up with an equally childish response FF.
