I agree with your evaluation of Carmen's recent progress. While Carmen and Silvy were great together, Carmen's hosting skills seemed to regress substantially after that show met its demise. I guess that just goes to show you what the impolitic cruelty of separating two young lovers can do to the fragile human psyche. In any event, Carmen has recently rebounded, emerging as a more informed, opinionated and witty broadcaster than he ever was when he was paired with Silvy. He's a good listen.

I thought Carmine did a stellar job pinch hitting for Mac back in July when he was put in the naughty room (or in this case, the lesser country) for a few weeks. And that wasn't that far removed from when Justin Craig put the crowbar between Silvy and Carm.

As I recall, the word around here was that Carm was pretty vanilla during his summer sub stint. And that's quite an indictment, given the level of sycophancy and ass-kissery that runs wild in this forum on a daily basis. Of course, I guess most of those bouquets are thrown at Mac, anyway.

We're pointing out linguistic deficiencies of show hosts in a market where one of the pioneers of the sportstalk radio has the vocabulary of, well...
a short order cook,
and where one of the co-hosts of the highest rated afternoon show, can make a valid claim to English as his second language???

Who are you, the second coming of Daniel Patrick Moynihan? Let's agree to avoid defining deviance down, shall we?

Great post Rob. I respect the hell out of Northie and granted he's no Rhode Scholar but his partner who went to Harvard in Jiggs had marbles in his mouth most times so Im not going to judge sportsradio talent and being a wordsmith OR COLLEGE THEY WENT TOO.

Bernstiens tends to let everyone know he's educated and Mac points it out all the time that he was a English hack at BSU. I do get annoyed by guys who want to tell you they ARE more eduacted than you are or they know how to speak the kings English.

Damn, Midget.
Two references I needed to look up in a two sentence reply.
Why couldn't you just say that we should avoid accepting inferior product.
Every time you post something like that, I thank God (and Al Gore) for Google

I've never been one to bash North or Jurko for what many perceive to be their linguistic deficiencies. To me, their "rustic" or "colorful" verbal style is part of what makes them interesting characters. Both of those guys traffic in their authenticity as rough-hewn "blue collar" types, and thus speak in an idiom that meshes with that identity. To me, Silvy is a different case. Because he tries to present himself as a "thinker" or "sports intellectual" (not unlike Bernstein), he should make an effort to develop the kind of verbal fluidity one would associate with such a persona. I think his broadcasts would benefit from such an effort.

Coppock Suspended

Coppock got nailed. Seems pretty innocuous.

Radio host Coppock suspended

WMVP-AM 1000 has suspended Chet Coppock for making an offensive comment towards Jews.

When asked on last Saturday's show, how do you spell Jewish, Coppock replied, "M-O-N-E-Y."

I'd like to know who the idiot was who asked him that question to begin with.

5 day suspension? Somebody's Jewish husband needs to call and complain so they up his suspension to 2 weeks.

Explains why Finji was given time off then .I guess Finji asked how you spell JEWISH.

So far Chet has dropped his pants in front of a female co-worker and now dropping bad jewish jokes. For all of you scoring at home it's Mac 4 and Chet 2 win it comes to getting time off. The apple does not fall far from the tree.

the 'dog days' of winter and half the guys are sick, and the others are getting suspended.

Timing is everything.

How do I spell ESPN radio management: P E T T Y

I accomplish what I want with copy and paste. It's seemless the way I do it. Teaching me how to employ the emoticons and how to create an avatar would be of more value.

When you are posting a reply look to your left. There is where you will find those elusive emoticons.
