Any chance this discussion will reach the heights of OG or the more than one screen name threads?

Most of the Trib's readers were in lockstep with North and Darkside:

Not only did he make a bad choice by pulling too close to the story, he made the cardinal sin of becoming the story. Poor judgment by all involved...especially by the credibility-damaged "media critic."

I find it disheartening that a solid writer like Teddy Greestein would lower himself to appearing on that show. Mac, Jurko, and Harry are the three most brain-dead, unknowledgable, obnoxious, hacks ever to stain sports radio in Chicago, and that's really saying something.

Teddy I want you respond to Mike North's comments today about you losing your credibility.

This is the stuff we have to lead ChicagoSports.com with? A self-promotion of one of the Tribune's columnists? Big deal -- he was on a radio show. Stop the presses! Sad, sad, sad. I'd rather have the site lead with coverage of Bradley in the JV NIT rather than this. At least it would be sports NEWS!

greenstein has lost all credability as a media critic with me. How can he tell me anything about the media without me thinking he has a personal agenda. going on wmvp shows incredibly poor judgment.

Teddy was pretty good with JD. Harry, well, he's still just Harry. But overall I thought it went well.

If only Sean Salisbury listened to his former radio partner: "10:05 a.m.: I seek the advice of Steve Rosenbloom, who's WMVP show with Sean Salisbury lasted less than a year. His advice: Don't pretend to be an expert on everything."

I had to go back and see what I wrote because the G word isn't one I use very often. Actually, I called the idea "brilliant". I'll save the G word for Danny's next caper. In the meantime, Mac, I think you ought to ask Danny if he wants a Fresca. hmm? hmm?

I'd be willing to bet he had a personal agenda before. Doesn't everybody have a personal agenda in some fashion? I can't believe the objectivity of a part-time sports media critic is worthy of 7 pages and 2 threads.

I hope Potter's old man gives that hippie the business for such comments.

This may or may not have been posted already as I don't have as much time as most to post, but if you are influenced by the opinions of others and cannot stand on your own, shame on you. I am amazed at all the posts and time that looks to have been spent on a subject like this.

Radio, Television and print media needs to be taken for what it is, no more. It interesting that many that post here hang on the actions and opinions of other to the degree that they do. I'm not surprised MSNBC, CNN and other media outlets take so seriously the propaganda they deliver daily. There is a world of fish out there with their mouths wide open waiting to be hooked!

Vince, Frank, Rick,
We're not infulenced by the media critics. That's not our point.
We're not lemmings, we're not following the leader. That is so far off the point of this entire thread that I felt I needed to address this AGAIN.
We are not influenced.
I'll say it again just in case. THis isn't about us being influenced by media critics.
This was all about our observations that the Media Critic lost credibility for joining this show. it was our commentary on a critics (lack of) thinking.
That is all.

I understand that. Darkside, what would lead you to think that Teddy has lost his credibility and free thinking specifically? I have noticed that once Mac posts, all seem to "jump on" with a thought more than at other posts.

Ok thats fair, but could you explain to me why you dont think Teddy will be objective, or seen as objective from now on? I mean, isnt it the same as Silvy and Waddle having Tillman on and not being objective about him after that?

P.S. This was a joke. Its funny that the same idiots keep asking you the same questions and expecting different answers.

If I were a paper guy, I'd look for other media to work in, with the reductions in staff/buy-outs.

Sports journalism is a joke. Where else do you have daily access to all the players at fixed times, and catered press boxes?

Go cover a village hall meeting, and see what kind of spread they lay out for you there, or how happy the trustees are to see you. As a member of the press, or just a citizen with high boredom threshold...

I dont know if anyone heard the interview with Mully and Hanley today, but they grilled teddy pretty good on this. My issue has always been that the score shouldnt care and I still think they shouldnt, because it doesnt matter and thats what I wanted to tell Brian and Mike, but they were not taking calls on it because they took the interview right up to their quitting. So I left a message for Mike Mulligan and he called me back and more or less said it this more of paper media issue then a sports radio issue. After he explained it, I got his point and maybe I am flip flopping on it a bit, but I see the paper media part of it better now. But I heard Mike say Mitch was upset with the tribune about it, which I just still dont get. If mitch wants the feders, shermans and greenstiens to be fair, then he needs to tell people like north to stop sending gifts to those guys when he needs pub, because I know for a fact that has happened.

Why doesn't Mitch ever get upset about Pappy's poor performance? That should be his concern.

Don't worry what the Trib does Mitch. That has nothing to do with your product.

I don't think any article in the paper - about the two stations - helps or hurts either with listeners. It doesn't matter.

I think you are making a rather large assumption that Mitch is not upset about Pappy's poor performance. Do you know for a fact that he's not upset? Do tell.

I don't know Mitch and whether he is a good manager or not, but it is apparent he is smart enough not to air out his poor performing employees in public. I suspect there have been more than a few private conversations about Pappy's performance that may have had little effect. The thing that we all may not understand is how much control North has in his contract over what happens on his show. We can surmise that will change too with the next contract.
