Harry made mention that the update guy at ESPN is an asswipe for reporting about the Va Tech shootings and mentioning that none of the football or basketball players were hurt or killed during the shootings. Harry's response was "It should not matter that no football or basketball players were killed today" .. It should make no difference who these people were .. They were kids at a college getting an education and some sick-fuck took that away from them .. Kudos to you Harry..I thought the same thing when I kept hearing the updates on ESPN that no athletes were killed.. I kept thinking people were killed not football or basketball players. Thumps down to ESPN . |

Ditto. I heard the ESPN update guy report that at 5 pm and thought at the time that might be the dumbest thing I'd heard in a long time. Nice of Harry to catch it and roast that idiot. Now at home watching CNN, I realize that douchebag has a lot of company. It is times like these that we see the worst in our media. Ignorant questions (why don't we know the identity of everyone yet?), senseless man on the street interviews ("how did you feel when you heard gunshots?"), assumptions masquerading as facts (why was there no emergency preparedness plan?), and all the other elements of a huge media clusterfumble. In the big picture of today's bad reporting, "stupid sports guy" is just one of many media idiots showing their colors today. |

And seeing as the shootings took place in a classroom, OBVIOUSLY no football or basketball players would have been shot. |

It seems like ESPN was trying to justify their reporting of the incident by including a sports angle. They're still douches for it though. |

Didn't hear it, but I agree, it just sounds like they are throwing in the sports angle. I have heard/read worse about this from people today |

Back in high school I learned that athletes are better people than regular students, maybe that's why ESPN mentioned it. |

Yep..They did ..It was even more tasteless on the Dan Patrick show when Stashour (the update guy) reported that Coach Assface ( Frank Beamer) had reported that thankfully none of his players were killed.... Where is Marcus Vick and his handgun when you needed him ? |

If a killing spree were to ever happen in Bristol. God forbid. I want Dave Juday to report. "Unfortunantly, (name of this update guy) was not among the dead." or if he was killed "A tragedy has taken many innocent lives but at least they got (name of this update guy)." |

The ESPN update guys are still doing it today...one day later. I heard the update guy this morning say "Va Tech Football coach Frank Beamer and Basketball coach Seth Greenberg report all their players are ok." ESPN is really making these coaches seem like bad people with this commentary. ESPN is now raising itself into super-douchebag status. I read Beamer's and Greenberg's total remarks and they actually made quite articulate statements of concern about the victims, the families of the victims and the university community. ESPN is doing them a real disservice when they provide just this one sentence and make it seem that the coaches only care about their athletes. I really don't think that's the case. It's apparent that the update guys think that's all we care about. Or it's all they care about. Either way, they need to get off my radio and go find another line of work. |
