1.)He bitched about the Bulls not trading for Gasol. He said unless it was for Deng they should have done it. Mac admits that he finds it hard to watch the Bulls. How many times do you think he's seen Gasol play for the Memphis Grizzlies? I'll bet maybe one time if he caught them playing the Bulls. How can you have such passion for Gasol if you haven't seen him play?

I don't think Mac realizes the Bulls are 2 games from the 2 seed in the East. No they can't beat the Western team in the Finals but neither can any other Eastern team. They couldn't beat the West team with Gasol either. Staying the course is the best option.

2.) Last week he said the Bulls have given up because they are playing the two rookies - Thomas and Sefilosha (I spelled it wrong).

Mac. The reason those guys were getting more minutes is because at the time P.J Brown and Noch were hurt. It wasn't a youth movement. They were the best options on the roster. Not to mention I think Thomas should get more minutes because he's earned it.

3.) Mac was thinking out loud today. Saying "maybe the Bears can package thier late 1st round pick with their Jets early 2nd for a top 10 pick and get a running Back. What? They got rid of Jones to give Benson, their top 4 overall pick 2 years ago, his shot. The Bears are not going to invest in another top 10 RB before they know what Benson is going to be. That would be dumb and the Bears have other pressing need then to give up two picks. I expect more smarts from Mac on the Bears and the NFL.

Well Mac you asked the board to bring it. I had a couple pops tonight and decided to do so.

He just wanted to be able to sing the Pau Gasol song more often.

Agreed. That doesn't make any sense. I would understand if they took a RB with their second or third round pick to take some of the load off of Benson, but let's not go crazy.

Yeah. It's also frustrating that the two guys sitting next to him never challenge him on these thoughts. I'm hearing it and imediatly know it's wrong. Jurko and Harry should step up.

Did he really say he wanted to trade into the top 10 to draft another RB ????

That makes no sense. I respect Mac's football knowledge, but did he talk football with Mike North before coming on the air ? That's crazy!

Yes. He suggested that in the six o'clock hour right after he learned of the Jones trade.

Part of me thinks that is Mac trying to get people riled up. Get 'em excited about something.

I agree. Not with his "trading up in the draft to get a running back." That was pure stupidity. But his comments on the Bulls giving up with playing the rookies I agree. That had no basis and seemed contrived to say something shocking for a reaction.

But he can't fool smart fans with that crap. But odds are the majority of listeners are not smart fans so maybe Mac knows he can get away with it. Who knows. Maybe it's a smart radio move. But ya know. There is enough reality out there to hook listeners. I don't think he needs to do that.

Mac just isn't much of a basketball fan, and it shows. I think he's the first to admit he's not an expert on the game. Those guys should focus on baseball/football now. They're great on those two sports, but their basketball coverage could use some improvement.

He's stirring the pot... it's the sports abyss - between the Super Bowl and the NCAA Tourney.

I just cringe whenever he brings up Arena League Football. STOP!

He has to bring it up. ESPN signed a deal with the Arena League. If you watch SportCenter you will see them do a segment, followed by NHL highlights :?

How about an hour of Nascar , bring on the fishing dude from Saturday mornings for a gab fest and then to top it off they can talk about all the great golf courses in the chicagoland area.

Now that's 4 hours you can sink your teeth or tooth into .

Beardown, you may not know it, but you made my case for me. It is BECAUSE the Bears don't know what they have in Benson that may get them thinking about using a high pick on another running back. Do you remember when Ricky Williams (pre-Bob Marley) was a promising back in New Orleans? The Saints were criticized by many when they drafted Deuce McCallister, but New Orleans got the last laugh. Not sure about you, but in the NFL I watch two-running back systems often are employed. How did Addai and Rhoades work out this year in Indy? And factually speaking, I didn't say they WOULD draft an RB..... I said it would be an option for them. Thanks for "bringing it."

Was there ever a "pre Bob Marley" with Ricky Williams? He always seemed out there.

I've been arguing the 2 back system in the Rosenbloom thread that's basically fallen on deaf ears. Benson has shown us enough Mac, didn't you know that? Duh.

WR, no one is saying the two back system doesnt work. The second back doesnt have to be Thomas Jones. Look at Pittsburg. They had a two back system with Bettis and Parker. Parker wasn't even drafted. Number 2 backs are out there that don't cost 4- 5 million.

The difference between the Bears and the Saints is that Ricky Williams was the feature back from the start. New Orleans obviously didn't like what they saw in him as a feature back, and let him go to Miami.

Benson hasn't had that chance yet. To waste a number one pick on a RB this year without even seeing what Benson can do as a featured back would be dumb.

And, Ricky Williams didn't exactly fall on his face in Miami. He was an All-Pro runner before he smoked himself out of the league.

Ok, while Mac's premise is way out of there, let's just say somehow Adrian Peterson fell into the laps of the Bears whereever they pick in the first round. Are you telling me you would pass him up with the RB situation where its at presently? It would be tough awfully tough too. Hell most likely Angelo wouldn't pass that up anyway since he just had to have Cedric Benson at #4 with a dozen needs at the time.

There's no shot in hell that Adrian Peterson falls to 31. By all accounts, he's a top 10 pick. Maybe even a top 5.

Scott, obviously he wouldn't. I was sticking with Mac's premise that they would trade up in the draft.

There is a difference with your Saints example. A new regime came in and didn't like Ricky. Ricky was Ditka's guy. The coach was defidently different and I'm pretty sure it was a different GM that drafted Deuce.

Benson is Angelo's guy and Angelo is still here. Angelo is not giving up on Benson and investing a top 10 pick for a RB again. I guarentee you. You should know that. O-line is more pressing for this SB ready team.

I think that they are a year too soon to pick up another stud RB in the draft. Give Benson a year as THE MAN. I think he can be a stud and I suspect that's what the Bears are thinking, as well.

Did you ever see one of those Westerns where there is a huge bar fight and it just keeps spilling over from one room to the next and eventually out into the street?

Nothing to do with this conversation, just asking. :D

If the Bears would trade up in the first round Id rather them take a Calvin Johnson or Joe Thomas. Why spend that much money or draft picks on one position when only one of them can be on the field.

I agree OB Joe. I stated in some other thread a while back - if the Bears can somehow parlay all of these picks and Briggs and whatever into a pick that lands them Calvin Johnson, I'll treat Jerry Angelo to a rib dinner with dessert and 2 drinks included.

They'd have to get into the top 2 or 3. I don't think they have the bullets to make that happen.

Well if we are alking about any player in the draft the Bears could have its obviously Calvin Johnson. He is far and away better than any skill position player in this draft. joe Thomas would be much better too

I don't think they have the bullets either but I'm living in Mac's world of make-believe where they can get into the top 10 somehow and maybe Johnson's "friend" is found with a couple pounds of oregano under his car seat.
