Wow... so much for my nice 'gem' I found on Sunday:

------------------------------------
Thumbs DOWN to David Haugh of the Tribune, who wrote this in Sunday's
feature piece on draft prospect S/LB Quincy Black:

"So it seemed like a worthwhile trip when the Bears dispatched linebackers coach Bob Babich to the Albuquerque campus last month for a private workout with outside linebacker Quincy Black, whose freakish physical skills reminded Lobos coaches of Urlacher's."

Now that I think about it... maybe a thumbs UP to David Haugh. It's about time somebody came clean and admitted that Babich is a glorified linebackers coach and Lovie Smith is actually the Defensive Coordinator (slash) Head Coach.
--------------------------------------

The ESPNification of Mac, Jurko and Harry continues. I'm sure if Justin Craig went down to Home Depot he could get himself a set of new nuts.

I guess there's no need to think of the MJH Show anytime other than M-F 3-7PM anymore.

Maybe Mac, Jurko, Harry, Ben and Scot could join Justin. They could probably get a good deal for a dozen - and pick up an extra pair for Adam too. ;)

Salisbury is working out great Bristol...

When is Steve Cochran moving to afternoons?

Something about the recent events at AM1000 calls to mind the following scene -

Dr. Peter Venkman: This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.
Mayor: What do you mean, "biblical"?
Dr Ray Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath-of-God type stuff.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Exactly.
Dr Ray Stantz: Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies. Rivers and seas boiling.
Dr. Egon Spengler: Forty years of darkness. Earthquakes, volcanoes...
Winston Zeddemore: The dead rising from the grave.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria.

You think this was a carrot dangler decision? Mac always seems to find a way to put critics to bed when he can anyway.

This just smells of those damn suits in Bristol. Critics was a fine piece of radio with an unusual amount of self-deprecation and brutal honesty. Now I'll just have to look forward to how many times a day MJH can play their "players", "dugout", and "clubhouse" sound snippets.

I'm getting a strange "Major League" vibe here lately.

El Justin comes in and "they" start making changes and taking away things that we like so we stop listening, then they're going to move the station to LA.

When Mac and Harry were swapping stories of who did what surgery I was waiting to hear who gelded them.

Here are their scrub nurses:

Does this mean MJH are getting syndicated?

What exactly is a sportsbash and what does said program bring to the table that "Thousand pounds of sounds"(MJH) can't deliver in the afternooner drive?

fuck you corporate espn. fuck you right in the ear.

I am not happy at all about this. this is my favorite segment. this is my segment. this is where i birthed my greatest contribute as a sports radio fan. i'm seriously pissed. this is bullshit.

is it because WE didn't bring it since football ended?

It sounds to me like it came down from above. Perhaps too much bashing of the "talent" at the mothership ?

Author:  hawkeye [ Wed Apr 25, 2007 8:42 am ]

Yeah it has to be. When they take random calls ripping those people it is hard to identify or lay blame. When it's an advertised and contained event it's easier for the suits to nitpick.

It wouldn't shock me if that was the reason. ESPN has a corporate policy about not criticizing sports commentators, at least for Bristol employees, since it opens them up to subjectivity if they don't criticize their own employees equally; I wonder if that is playing a part.

That reminds when Coppock took over for Sily and Carmen one night and the first hour was basically, "Which people on Sportscenter suck."

Coppock went on to bash Berman and Stuart Scott for like 20 minutes. it was hilarious.
