I got this inspiration from every freaking Mark Prior article written in the last 3 years. Why do they keep repeating this distant fact?

"Prior came up to the big leagues in 2002, and in 2003 he went 18-6 with a 2.43 ERA in helping the Cubs to the National League championship series."

Please stop wasting print with this factoid!!!

Correct. What Mark Prior did in 2003 means both jack and shit.

That's exactly how I feel about the results of the 2005 season.

Both seasons are distant memories of little use for us today.

Well, truth be told, they've each had one great season and one decent season, so if Joe Mauer blows his knee out tomorrow, it's a wash.

But, we can all see the future, can't we?

Get off Prior's case, he's one game over .500 since Bartman touched his ball.

Perhaps I was unclear on the point that Fats was trying to make.

Is he stating that he believes that Mark Prior should have been drafted ahead of Joe Mauer?

Perhaps he thinks the Cubs would have been better off taking Dewon Brazelton and his career 6.38 ERA?

I just think it is silly to talk about the draft like the Cubs missed out on something when, as Fats so clearly points out (pictures make things so much easier to understand), the Cubs couldn't have drafted Mauer if they wanted to.

Mauer is also the more fetching of the two.

His point is vague at best, but perhaps it's a hypothesis on how much of a discrepancy there can be between Pick #1 & #2 (not unlike Manning/Leaf).
