Alright, so we got the e-mail from Adam Delevitt last week. He told me there was no event for the golf outing. Now I'm not sure how good the 8 people are in the two groups, but I would imagine if most of the people aren't 10 handicaps or lower we'd only be helping the flow of the shotgun start by plaing a Scramble Challenge between our two groups (however they may nix this idea thinking it'd slow it). If we can do this, here are the rules.

All players tee off. From then on out you the best or preferred ball by your group, then your team hits four more shots from there and so on.

You also must use everyone's tee shot twice.

You must also use everyone's first putt twice.

Does this make sense? Any interest in doing this? Again, the thought process might be it would slow down the shotgun start. I suppose if we were the last two group in the field there would be no problems at all with this. We could also go total team score instead when the Scramble idea falls flat.

If you're man enough throw down an average score range or if you have a handicap on this thread....

Woodridge Ryan - AVG SCORE 90

i'm cool with that b/c I can't hit very far. any course from the Blues is too long for me (I'm a two-putter) which is why my Avg Score is a 105.

Having worked at a golf course, they should love the fact that you'd be willing to do a scramble. Its quicker.

Why are you challenging Julius Erving, Mike North, and Charlie Waters?

Why not just challenge the group I'm in?

Nicely done Noisewater. I was going for that except the Waters part. Give up your stats. If they don't do let us Scramble let's see if we can agree upon a handicap between the two teams.

I'd be good with what you've put down there. Except I don't think you need the putts thing - I'm too lazy to keep track of that much info. The drive restriction should be enough.

But, hey, you're Woodridge Ryan/DEP/MUS/Hawkeye, so we'll do whatever you guys think is best since your collective post total is rivaled only by Nas himself.

I don't really have a handicap anymore as I only play 3 or 4 times a year. However, if we had played 15 years ago, I might have had to play blindfolded for you to have a chance. How's that? Let's let the trash talking begin.

Sounds like we're in the same boat Dr. I only play 3-5 times a year myself. It's a shame, but something I basically had to give up when I moved out here if I wanted to eat. Anyway, are you saying to give you an avg score of 90 as well? The only guy we'll have to do some research on his whoever North Shore J is bringing...

I like the idea and even if we end up pushing the teams in front of us because we're doing a scramble we can just take it easy, drink, and play slower. I don't like to rush when golfing. Usually I'll hit mid 90's depending on the course. If we have a biggest slice competition I will trounce all of you.

Ok, I worked at a course for 7 years and like Joe, know that for the most part a Scramble is going to move things a long pretty well. I would assume no one is in a rush. It may be one of those things where we get told not to do this. I suppose we could just "Ask Mac" if we can Scramble, but I just say we shoot for that. Wel'll put Hawkeye down as a 95.

Team Hawkeye WR Doug Scholar (a might fine player in his day)
90
95
105

Dr. J North Water
90

Unfortunately Ryan, I'm just as likely to shoot 95 as 75 these days, so put me in the upper 80s. Early word from J was that his buddy is pretty good but J, himself, is not so good. Sounds like we are all in the same boat. I don't know about donspiracy.

However, when currency of any derivation is on the line, be it pelts, beads, beer, or American dollars, my Jordan-like instincts take over. So you just will need to determine what you would like to owe me.

Noisewater, I'm also capable of shooting the coveted 79. However this will be my first outing of the year. Sounds like we are going to all be fairly close. Let's see what kind of response we get from donspiracy and Scholar. Maybe, if the scramble gets the boot we'll go score vs score straight up....of course the back nine will be difficult as I'll start to see more than one flag pole on the green

well...i hit my five wood 165 yards on a par 3 yesterday, 4 feet from the pin. i subsequently was short on the putt by an inch.
that's pretty much my game. i don't even know what a 3, 4, or 5 iron look like.

I'm also going to volunteer as the official message board photographer. As a complete tech nerd, I have a few good digital cameras so will give one of them to the Dr Noisewater team for the day and bring one for ours. Afterwards I'll put all the pictures together and send them out to everybody. I can also post them here if anyone is interested.

Is there really any reason we couldn't do a scramble though? The only negative I'd see is that we could be butting up against teams ahead of us, but if we don't mind that we're not hurting anything are we?

Of course all this blustering on my part is predicated on the assumption that I actually am invited to this thing.

I still haven't heard anything from ESPN yet.

That's how I feel hawkeye, but you know how some people get. You can never tell with golf course people and event planners. They want things done their way. They may not mind. I say we just do it and go from there. Noisewater, I'll eliminate the putting rule. Drives only for that. Let's run with this scramble format.

If we can't do the scramble, we could do a best ball or even two best ball format. 2 best ball would make things interesting, but might get discouraging.

I'll shoot anywhere from 90-100, but my weakness is supposedly exactly what Mac and Jurk were saying is most important - putting. Danny Noonan might have gotten his caddie scholarship by being a good golfer, but not me.

Mr. Delevitt just called. So I'm good to go. I asked him about the scramble. He sounded confused on why we would want to do it but said we could. I told him about your group WR.

Yea, I asked Delevitt if it was a scarmble (because Scholar thought he heard it was) and he said no. Everyone plays for themselves. Alright. its settled. CSFMB Scramble Challenge. Your ass is going down Dr. Kenny Left Nut.

My friend Dave Haliday used to work at WMVP and is great at golf. I suck!!! I won't hold anyone back, but I'm not a good golfer.

Heading out to my six year old and four year old's first baseball game of their careers. Doug, I'll give you a buzz.

Does anyone know if we can use the range before tee time?

Well, I'm sure worst case scenario we can slip them a few bucks to do so. I'd like to do this and Hawkeye and I plan on getting there somewhat early.

hawkeye, where do you live?
i'm leaning towards crashing at my sister's house tomorrow night in the City to cut my drive in half. she's near armitage and western.
I just talked to NSJ about cruising with him, but i think i would rather get up at 6:30 instead of 5:00 Wednesday morning and meet up with you and Ryan somewhere...
whatdya think?

More bets are won and lost on the first tee than on the 18th green. SoI'm all for getting it right. Hell I want action on this

So let me get this straight, Hawkeye, WR, MUS and Doug are 90, 90s, 95ish and 105? This team will likely shoot around par in a scramble. None of these guys make a lot of birdies and they likely won't have many birdie putts under 10 feet. They also likely will have to make a few knee knockers to save par after they all take the gas pipe on the same hole. Anything under par will be a solid day.

Dr. Ken is a 75-95 who figures high 80s (I know how THAT game)and his other three partners are unknowns, but one might be good and one not so good. Sounds like Dr. Ken's team could have two players capable of being better than anybody on the other team. If a team has two guys who can make shots, they could get to 4 under easily.

So, unless it is shown Dr. Ken's team has at least one member who is incontinent (not a good thing in a scramble), the Doctor's team ought to be giving at least two shots a side. If donspiracy proves to be a ringer who shoots in the mid 80s or lower, three shots/side sounds about right.

So what's the line right now?

And consider this factor...

Beer drinking....this could be the death of our team.

Current Line: Doctor Ken's team - 2 shots/side

Over/Unders (Scramble): Dr. Ken -4
Hawkeye/WR/MUS/Doug: Even par
