I read on the mjh golf outing thread that some of you are experiencing them due to aging and whatnot.... Wondering what you all do or what works best getting the back *back* as soon as possible. I injured my SI joint or something like that working on the roof...it has not healed much in two weeks. Sitting is worse...I have been to a chiropractor three times and while it helps initially, the pain comes back... |

Unfortunately for serious back issues there isn't much you can do, when I get back spasms (like I have at the moment) I do the following: 1. Ice and aleve to cut any swelling 2. Muscle Relaxers to relieve spasms 3. Lots of rest My spasms take 3 days to return to walking and about a week to feel good. |

Mine has never been due to an injury, it's more of a muscular neglect thing. Stretching, heat pad, and Advil gel caps do it for me. As Nolan Ryan said. I pop a couple Advil and can go another nine. |

I've had back issues for awhile and have been on a steady stream of Vicodin for a long time. There are a few things that if done 3-4 times a week, should reduce pain significantly. First, stretch your hamstrings out well. Second, do those "superman" exercises on your stomach. One arm up with opposite leg at the same time and hold 10 seconds. Do 10 sets on each side. Once stronger you can do both arms and legs at once. Get an exercise ball and work abs on it. You can also find a ton of great rehab back exercises on it online. Final one is lay on side with elbow down and lift your ass up for 10 seconds to strengthen your sides. After a few weeks your pain should reduce a lot. It usually gets worse in the first week or so before it starts to get better though. |

Some of you guys ought to be in the Physical Therapy business. Or maybe you are. I've done a variety of stretches and exercises, but I'm going to try these too. |

Also, a couple other things they got me doing later that helped a ton. First was walking on a treadmill. I hate walking especially if I'm not going anywhere but that 10 minutes of walking helped. Second was this little plastic thing they had me step on with a round bottom. I used it to stretch out my calves (and also hamstring inadvertently). You could do the same thing on your stairs at home though. Finally once you're comfortable and a bit stronger, do bridges from on your stomach. Lay on your stomach with your elbows right underneath your man-boobs. Then lift your hips off the ground to make your body completely straight. Hold 10 seconds and do 10 of them. The first time you do them the first couple will seem easy. After about 5 or 6 though you'll realize how weak you really are. After a week of that along with the other stuff you'll be strong like bull in the midsection. |

For those who have used it, What is she doing while you are hanging upside down? |

Not that you all care, but I've probably dropped 15-20 pounds since I saw you all in January *Button 48* I attribute it to cutting back on Fast food, and drinking plenty of water, fruits, yogurt, and working out a few days a week. |

Masturbation is good therapy for a sore back. Then again, I think it's good therapy for boredom at work, driving across country late at night, and of course, it's good for the significant other to perform on you during that 'special' time of her month... the 'jelly donut effect' as I like to call it. |

About 10 days ago I started having issues again. Right shoulder blade. Knife party pain. heat and ice are hit or miss. Pills help but aren't solving the problem. It's slowly getting better, but every morning is a struggle albeit less of one. I found my surgeon and I may call him to get another steroid shot if this doesn't get better shortly. |

I'm not really sure what the hell I did. Just tweaked it a bit two Friday's ago. I have some hardware from the surgery in 1994 but it's been 7 years since the last time I saw him. between 1994-2001 he gave me 4 steroid shots and I think it is about time for another. |

Make sure you see him destroy the needle and gauze. Last thing you need is to shut down a Nerve Session world tour years from now because some crazy schmuck kept a steriod infested needle with your DNA on it. |

I pulled my groin a few hundred times, but those were self inflicted. |

I screwed up my back a few months ago, and the main problem now is stiffness when sitting on hard chairs. The best thing for me is any back stretches and stretching the hamstrings. |

My back has never been the same since a bad fall some 6-7 years ago. hawkeye and I have talked about some things - he's an expert in back issues so if you ever have questions hit him up. As for me, my years of struggle will hopefully get better in 13 days. |

I'm not Barbaro. Though I'd try and come back and tell you what happens in Thug's poll. Actually, having a laminectomy at L5/S1 on the 26th. |
