The self-righteous, multiple suspended host known as Mac once offered us with these wise words when it comes to interacting with women:

Mac wrote:
The ridiculously immature and disrespectful manner some have posted regarding women, often with posts directed at the anonymous Linda S., comes to mind. I don't know the "mission statement" of the board, but if it wasn't intended to be a homo club exclusively, some posters have worked hard to try to make it one.

A statement first, if you'll indulge me. Nobody understands better than I do sportsradio is not produced with women in mind. At the same time, does it invariably have to go to the lowest common denominator when a woman enters "a man's world?" Some of the responses I've read hear in resonse to Linda could use an upgrade in social graces. Just a thought... disregard if you chose, but you don't flatter yourself calling somebody names like I've seen here.

So calling a woman a "BITCH" isn't disrespectful or immature? I can't believe you received a suspension for your chivalrous behavior. It's okay Mac you surely must have a good reason. She wouldn't drop everything to answer a call from your show immediately. Who does she think she is?

actually guys, this was covered by Darkside in a sarcastic post that I commented on afterwards. I can't remember which "Bad Mac" thread it was.

Something tells me Mac's chiding of the board, for it's treatment of women, stemmed from a conversation with his lovely wife. She does read the board. I remember her deductive skills on display in the good dolphin is Meatpants discussion. Either that or he was just funnin' and trying to ruffle some feathers. In any event, he has planted his foot firmly in his mouth once again.

She does, he has and frankly, I don't hold Mac in any less esteem because of it. Mac is not much different than a lot of us...he's a decent guy who says hypocritical things at times, says things he shouldn't at times and has to pay the price for them. I don't have the same penchant for citing hypocrisy as others do as I know that we all are guilty of it at one time or another. I respect his boss more for taking action, but I don't respect Mac any less for making a very human mistake.

I don't respect him any less either Coast. We all are hypocritical at times. Well, B&B aren't, at least according to them. Just positing a theory.

frank, i think this is more of the lemming like following Mac has on here is why Oz posted this. Oz is most likely trying to point out that no one challenged him on this when every 670 guy on this board would be ridiculed for the hypocrisy...

On a side note, I thought from the strat Mac was just messing around with that comment.

I'm pretty sure Mac's wife doesn't give a shit about Linda S.

Why couldn't Mac have saved that anger and used it towards something positive?

Perhaps, while replying to a thread began by Linda S?

Cheers was more comfy, cozy, not as intelligent of a sitcom. I actually think Frasier was smarter and funnier show. This is coming from a HUGE Cheers fan.

agreed....
it's easy to criticize from the car or office. those guys say more words in 4 hours than i do in a week. they're bound to screw up from time to time. law of averages...

Please allow me to contradict myself.

There is a certain level of respect that should be shown to women. That is the way I was raised and that is what I believe. It may not make logical sense, but I have a problem when women are called out of there name regardless of how 'equally' they wish to be treated.

My stance taken yesterday against the suspension of Mac was more out of frustration in regard to double standards and ever changing/lack of rules in the radio industry. The argument has very little to do with this situation in my opinion, as there is never a good time to degrade a woman.

That being said, I can't wait until Mac returns to my favorite radio show.

Coast,
You are correct that we all make mistakes and that we all say contradictory things. The difference is Mac's post on the board here was made with a very high and mighty tone... this went beyond the human mistake of a simple, innocent contradiction. I still like Mac and will continue to listen to his radio show as I have for the last 10 years, but he was a douche on this one... deserves to be suspended... and deserves to be called out by the board for the ridiculous post he made a while back.

Mac,
Please try and stay off the high-horse, you and your show are much better when you do.

Ivan,

I don't think that you are contradicting yourself. It is hard on a conscious or sub-conscious level to live in our culture and respect women.

I too was raised the same way you were.

But when a ton of sports ads are targeted to men using women as objects...
When a ton of music refers to women as "bitches and ho's"
When so many children are born into single family homes...

Society either accepts it, or battles it. We appear to have accepted these behaviors. Mac, and the rest of us say things daily we wish we could take back. I hope that ESPN allows him to apologize and return. I hope that his pattern of self-destructive behavior stops.

I hope that Slueth... aww forget it.

Weak political talking points Seacrest. I would say that the elimination of treating women differently was a goal achieved by the women's movement. I agree with the view. Putting a woman on a pedestal is actually a statement of the placer's perception of them being weaker.

IIRC, what triggered Mac's comments to the board about the way Linda S. was being treated was me calling her a "cumsponge."

When I read that Mac was suspended again, I thought it was going to be for his slamming of Justin Craig and ESPN. What I found particularly ironic about that was that after he got through lambasting the company that pays him $600k a year, he started ripping on one of the Bears for how he was dressed while appearing on Comcast SportsNet, saying he was denegrating the organization by dressing like that, and that he should remember that he represents the Bears' organization.

Which is worse? Dressing in a way that displeases some guy who thinks Zubaz is fashionable, or ridiculing your boss and the company you work for on the air?

I'd say the latter.
