When Mac, Jurko OR Harry are on vacation - or suspension, what's your favorite line-up?

Not to disrespect any of the other fill-ins, but for me it's:

Mac, Jurko and Hood (a VERY lively listen)

or

Mac and Harry (always a powderkeg ready to explode)

or

Carm, Jurko and Harry (somebody needs to drive the show and show some emotion vs the two Cub fans)

MJHood always cracks me up. Mac and Hood have really good chemistry and seem like good friends. Jurko always sounds like he's having a great time being along for the ride and offering a contribute when Mac and Hood are doing here thing.

The first 2 are fine. The 3rd option = automatic B&B all afternoon.

Ya... I know what you mean - when one of them is gone, the show usually loses most of it's luster when Mac is gone.

Jurko seems to be more active when Carm is in the studio vs. any of the other 'fill ins'.

Harry was pretty entertaining with Chet earlier today too for what it's worth.

Yeah, that may have been entertaining radio, but I just can't stomach Chet. My dislike for him goes back over twenty years. I couldn't stand him when he did Channel 5? in the early 80s. It's even worse now.

What I want to know is, why can't Jurko and/or Harry drive the bus in Mac's absence? They don't have to be great at it...

I know they do fight, but I think when it's just Mac and Harry, those are some of the best shows ever on radio.

If they need 3, when somebody's gone, I would put Hood in for either Jurko or Harry, when Mac's gone, nobody's listening, so it doesn't matter. If I had to choose, I would go with Carm.

I find Hood to be obnoxious when he is on with Mac.

B&B.

Without Mac I'm immeadiately reminded of the dark days of sports talk when Harry actually had a show. Painfully boring.

Harry makes B&B downright enjoyable.

Hood blows i don't mind when Carm or JD drive with Harry and Jurko, but then no one tells Harry to shut up when he gets out of line.

I don't mind J Hood, but not during the afternoon show (keep him at night). I don't mind when either Carm or JD drives the bus while Mac is gone. Just Harry and Jurko would be ugly radio.

couldn't agree more

I prefer JD over Carm to drive the boat during Mac's vacation/sabattical/suspension.

JD filling in for any of the three is always good. To me, he's the best guy on the station outside of MJH.

I think that JD and Carm both try to be too much like Mac when they fill in for him. They should just be themselves.

That's funny. I remember I used to really dislike Mac when he would fill in for Coppock in the late 80s when Chester was out because I thought he was doing a Coppock impersonation and doing it badly.

It took me a long time to forget about that....wait, I guess I still haven't forgotten about that. But, Mac's alright in my book these days and that, too, is a thin book.

Carm, Jurko or Harry is pretty bad. The problem when Mac isn't there is that Harry too often is sort of leading the show. I know Carm is brought in to do that, but he doesn't have enough presence to do that.

I think Harry takes over because he's an idiot and doesn't get yelled or scolded by Mac when he goes off on his tangents.

Way to take a stand.

When Mac is not on the show two themes become abundantly clear:

1. Jurko is the actual star of MJH. Jurko is very talented and sounds better without Mac. As others have noted hosts like JD and Carm seem to bring out the best of the good kid. I don't know if he feels he needs to bring "it" more on days without Mac, but whatever the cause it works.

2. Harry is a knucklehead of biblical proportions. I like Harry, he is generally funny. However, when no check for him is present his tangential minutia(Waddle vacation time, Grace retired number, Blackhawk picture, personal vendettas, etc.) is uninteresting. Contrary to his strength he tries to be the star rather than comic/goof ball relief. I am more convinced than ever that MJH succeeds in spite of him.

My two cents.

I'm sure a call has been blown into Spike Manton, who when last seen was leaving Iowa.
