Post subject:  What I'm doing with summer vacation

Since you asked....

Are you seated? Eating right and exercising a bit while on extended holiday! Chiropractor visits and weight loss have eased burden on lower back so I'm golfing a lot.

Not drinking has helped both mentally and physically. Fishing with sons in Canada was awesome. Oldest caught a trophy smallmouth (which we released). Rented an RV for more room for youngsters. There were five of us, three McNeils and two Walkers, my former brother-in-law and still very good friend, and his son, my sons' cousin. Borat rocks. Best movie to watch with teenagers this decade.

Watching a ton of movies. Golfing some more. 4-iron not quite 295 yet, Doug. House projects. Playing Mr. Mom and cooking dinners for the working McNeil of the house.

Reading stuff I don't have time to read during a work week (or work month) like our last union contract. Also have been inspired by the volume of supportive e-mails from co-workers, others in the business.

Bought an awesome new cell phone. Bought some new golf gear. Nothing says unpaid vacation quite like spending money unnecessarily. Finally going to look at purchasing a drum kit this week.

Cleaning the garage. Recycling boxes, cans and bottles. Reading CSFMB. Listening to music. Golfing with wife tomorrow... then taking her out for dinner.

Adam Delevitt and I are golfing Friday. Kids here to spend the night Friday night. We'll grill walleye from the trip, swim and watch a movie. Sheri's birthday is Sunday so we'll have a get-together here in Hooterville. She's been awesome through this. Very much in my corner.

Next week: Six Flags, more exercise, more golf, more no drinking, maybe start hitting the drums. WHo knows what else.

I am humbled by the support on this board. Thank you for making me feel better at a time when I've needed it. Hope to have your ears again some time down the road. -
Mac

mac if you didnt get thumped for calling a spade a spade, you'd have gotten thumped at some point this week for punching harry in the mouth due to his over the top cubs love, which is way overboard even for him.

how long before you catch up to the likes of bellboy and bonzo?

Mac, Carm said you'd be back next week. From your "hope to have your ears again some time down the road" it seems you're not sure when you'll be back on the air.

Is that ESPN 1000 bullshiting us or is that you being unsure if you are coming back?

You once said if you were ever unjustly suspended you'd quit. Was this unjust? If so will you quit?

Are my questions more challenging then anything Teddy's ever asked you?

Thanks, Mac. Seems clear that you are not going to speak about the incident, but I'd love to hear your side. I'd also like to gain a better understanding of why an agnry Chet Coppock can call a former co-worker a "mean son-of-a-bitch" and not face similar discipline. Maybe he was reprimanded behind closed doors, but I'd bet the case has not even been reviewed by Jim. I'd argue that's a double standard.

Was one of them Johnnie Walker?

It's good to hear you are using your time to relax and recreate. As a wise man once said when paraphrasing an even wiser man "this too shall pass."

That drum kit will be stuck in the basement being used as a clothes hangar before the end of the year.

Mac,

It sounds like you're making the most of this time off, and being able to spend so much time with your family is something to cherish! Can't wait to hear you on the air again, but until then, enjoy your family, friends and CSFMB!

Hey Mac,
I know you can probably play wherever you want, but if you find a course on GolfNow.com/Illinois you want to try. Let me know, I'll take care of it.
Harry is getting out of hand on the Cubs for sure, Carm is overmatched against him. Show really misses something when you guys aren't all together. Hope DP leaving makes it easier for you to move to the 2pm hour.

Good luck Mac. I hope you are enjoying your time off. I look forward to you getting back on the radio at some point, hopefully with MJH. If not, you could always buy a HAM radio and go underground with your show from your basement. You would still probably get higher ratings than the current Mike North show.

So with all your free time, have you started to read other sections? We waste a lot of time.

Mac,
As a family man myself, it really sounds like you are making the most of your time off. My problem is I second guess everything I do at work and stress over the implications of my decisions. Sometimes you gotta let go of the things you can't control and focus on the good things that you can control... it sounds like you are doing exactly that. Kudos.

Good to hear from you, Mac. I hope the next time we hear you on the radio it's 30 days from now announcing your triumphant return to WSCR with a fatty new contract that makes Bernstein weep. I'm sick of these puds in management at ESPN and ESPN in general.

OK, Mac. You mentioned buying a set of drums... so I'm gonna point you in the right direction.

i know you are a HUGE fan of John Bonham's work. You're probably well aware that Bonham was a Ludwig man. His boomy live sound came from the Vistalite series. My understanding is that these really cut through.

Now, here's the important thing. You CANNOT go cheap on cymbals. If you dont' feel like busting out a lot of bank on the drums, you can buy a cheaper set and make them usable by simply changing the drumheads. You can't do that with cymbals. A cheap, crappy cymbal will sound exactly like a cheap and crappy cymbal.

My suggestions: (All Zildjian, of course)
(1) pair 14" New Beat Hi Hats - Avedis A series
(1) 16" medium Crash - Avedis A Series
(1) 17" rock Crash - Avedis A Series
(1) 21" Rock Ride - Avedis A Series

This setup will give you everything you need to get going... anytime you're ready to put together a competing act to Bonfire, let me know... I'd love to play the role of Malcolm.

I know a guy who sells Pearl Exports (6-piece set with the seat) for $320 brand new in the box. Now a bad learner set.

Mac, glad you are enjoying your time off. Too bad ESPN dropped the ball on this one but I hope it works out for you in the long-run. I was just starting to come around to a full slate of ESPN for my listening habits and now I'm pretty much back to the Score. So, well done, ESPN.

Also, kudos to you for not diving into the drink upon the news of ESPN's spiritual leader Dan Patrick leaving your stable. You have a stronger will than I.

I've adjusted my avatar in your honor until your return.

Mac, glad to hear you're making good use of your time off but to borrow a line from one of your favorite movies, 'I'm drowning here, and you're describing the water!'.

Hey McFish, thanks for the update. A couple of questions and a couple of comments.

A) Did you check out the deleted scenes from Borat, namely the Massage Parlor scene?

B) Have you determined where Brad Johnson is holding a clipboard?

Pop for the FLASH Pass while at Great America - don't overspend for the most expensive package - go for the level lower. Trust me, it beats waiting in line with fat, sweaty people that bring little in the form of conversation (but that may make you feel more 'at work').

I caught Ratt and Poison last night (Button 48 please). Ratt played "Walk the Dog" from Aerosmith and it was one of their best songs. How's that for an indictment on how bad THEIR music was? Poison was alright, seeing as I loathe them, but it REALLY got me jonesin' for the Thunder from Down Under. We need AC/DC to tour, and we need it immediately. Enough with this hiatus of their's.

The Sox still suck, even in your absence from sportsradio.

Mac you'd make an interesting neighbor with a drum set and naked swimming.

Happy Birthday to your wife.
