I knew that going in, but why bother being a sports fan if you are afraid to show it. Don't tell me your a Bears fan but refuse to wear a Bears jersey at Lambeau, just like I would feel like a coward if i chose a generic user name and tried to hide my loyalties. Even though they may be unpopular, Favre and the Packers are who i grew up cheering for.

Besides, with much better the Bears seem to be going into the 2007-2008 campaign, I figure Bears fans might be apathetic at best to the Packers this upcoming year.

I didn't know they played last night, perhaps you meant last year

Yeah they were comparable but Rex has a vastly superior team supporting him, and if you are looking for me to act like Favre is the same Favre of 1997 than you can look elsewhere. I happen to be a very big fan of his personally, and I still enjoy watching him play.

Plus Aaron Rodgers looks like Krenzel when he actually gets in the game

Sure

I think the quarterback position is close to a push, people can only speculate on how Rex will fare this season after last year's roller coaster season, and i expect another tough season from Favre with so much inexperience in the offense (3500 yds, 20 TDs, 18 INTs maybe)

The running back situation is probably less than ideal for both but I have to assume Benson (4th overall pick) is probably a little better than Brandon Jackson (late 2nd round pick) and journeyman Vernando Morency

I would actually give a slight edge to the Packers in the WR category due to Driver, but the Bears WR corps certainly shows a lot of promise and you could easily make an argument that their WR's are a better group

The Offensive Line shouldnt even be comparable, the Bears have one of the best albeit oldest offensive lines in the NFL, the Packers prefer to play musical chairs since they let alot of key linemen go in the past few years

Do i really even need to compare the defenses, especially now with the knowledge Briggs will be back. The Packers will have a better than expected defense in my opinion this year (Kampman, Hawk, Barnett, Nick collins), but the Bears Defense is unarguable a top 5 defense, and arguably the best in football.

So yeah i think it is probably fair to say the Bears should be considered a favorite over the Packers for the NFC North title this year

Nah Killer V because I include the Williams sisters in that category and they're around 25-27 range. My GF still makes fun of me because she "claims" I went ga-ga when I saw Chicago Sky player Candice Dupree at the Game 5 Bulls and Pistons a few months back.

Man all through the mid to late 90's the Packers fans were more or less apathetic towards the bears, At one point Favre was like 21-4 against them, now the tides have turned and it looks like the Bears turn for a little while probably, but at one point it was so one sided in favor of the Packers that it was tough to get up for the rivalry games

Stop being so damn nice and kissing so much ass on this board.

Grossman will be better than Farve.

This "rivalry" has been truly nonexistent since the late 1980s and has been completely a media driven thing. I don't see fans really caring any more about Bears-Green Bay any more than the other divisional games. Cubs Sox still has that meatball passion and hatred even though it's moronic. At least it really exists and isn't just in the minds of media members and producers. It's just lazy, easy journalism and we continue to eat it up and allow it. Hell, one of the first questions new coaches and players are always asked is about this rivalry and they just give the answer they think the meatheads want to hear. Even the meatheads really don't care anymore though.

The only thing that keeps the rivalry for me is the fact that Brett Farve used to always seem to light the Bears up. It seems like every Green Bay-Bears game I ever watched/attended ended up with him having this great game and the Bears getting beat. When I went to the game in 2005 with all the retirement talk I thought it was Brett Farve's last game vs. the Bears and enjoyed him getting put on the ground time and time again because his offensive line was over matched. I still think he's a great QB and would put him at or near the top of any QB list but it was nice to see.

The Packers/Bears rivalry is overblown, but the games in general are more intriguing than the Lions games or Tampa Bay when they were still in the north. I have the same level of dislike for Minnesota.

I think the big problem with any rivalry in pro sports is the fact that players change teams so much. In college, the players almost always stay with their teams for the 4-5 years and never end up on the opposing team even if they transfer.

i think there are very few instances where rivalries exist between the actual teams. most of the time, the actual players don't hate each other, especially now with free agency. maybe back in the day, before that happened, players would have their own rivalries.

they mainly exist because of the fans. that's why cubs/sox exists. the fans hate each other.

if the teams become complacent with each other, the fans most likely will too. not just bears/packers (which hawkeye's dead on about)--philly/ny isn't what it used to be. they still will chide each other, but it's not as heated as it was years ago...and philly would OWN the giants. With Philly/Dallas, philly HATES dallas, but dallas fans don't really care about philly that much. It's a one-way hatred.

It also has to do with the flavor of the month. Who was the last team that burned you and continues to? If I were a Bears fan, I would be gunning for the Colts even though they're not in the same division, or even conference. Maybe that's a stretch, I don't know. As a Saints fan, I know who I want my team to beat... (see you at the end of the season--i hope we're both in it).
