Boy oh boy is fatass in his glory when Soriano gets hurt.

So since Sox fans have nothing to cheer for, they're gonna pray and hope that the Cubs will lose out the rest of the season instead of supporting their team. This is pretty low class. How can you be happy to see Soriano in pain? What the hell is wrong with you?
So does Mac personify a Sox fan? Lets see...
In June, Mac announces that he's done with the Sox. Sounds typical Sox fan; give up quickly and whine about it.
Then, I have to listen to how he's "All Things Brewers" and he immediately bashes the Cubs rather than holding the Sox to task for having a losing season. So another fit to being a snotty Sox fan. Deflect your own feeling of inadequacy towards Cubs fans.
You , Mac, further the perception that Sox fans are low class. Congrats.

Also, kind of stupid to be like that when your listeners are, statistically speaking, predominately Cubs fans. Have your rating not dropped enough lately?

He's not happy Soriano got hurt, he's happy that Harry has to shut the fuck up about the team of destiny bullshit.
BTW,
When talking about MJH, fatass is not descriptive enough.
Which one?

it also sickened many listners to hear harry talk about a team of destiny for weeks upon end, that for much of that time was MANY GAMES out of the playoffs.

i just dont like soriano. i was hoping if he hit the DL it was because he did that stupid silly little hop in the outfield and the ball went off his face

one game away from the central lead with 50+ games to play vs. 5 outs to go in the NLCS....

DISCUSS.

why don't we wait until the last out is made in the WS before we start calling any team a "team of destiny."

b/c a "team of destiny" is ultimately the WS winner....not before they win, but AFTER they win.

Easy. History vs. Current events. That's all you got to say. I don't dwell on '03 and I wish that Sox fans wouldn't either.

This Sox-Cubs fan debate is as old as dirt. Cubs fans are just as bad as Sox fans in regards to this. I cant tell you how many Cub fans were enjoying the Sox near collapse in 05 and the collapse last year. So dont go around acting like your group is innocent. Both groups are equally childish. I am one of the children. I hope the Cubs bottom out. I would never wish injury on anyone (well, not anyone). But, now the Cub fans have a built-in excuse. Or better yet more "proof" that their team is cursed. The only thing worse than Cub fans calling in to talk shows and saying that their 88 win team is the best team ever is Cub fans calling into talk shows and bitching about the same "near misses" every year. Sox fans hate the Cubs and their fans--deal with it. It is not going to change. Mac and White Sox Nation is entitled to their opinion. Maybe you should spend more time worrying about what your team is going to do about their vacancy in the outfield rather than what Mac or any other Sox fan is saying. Now I must go, I have to go order my Prince Fielder jersey. For the record, as an objective baseball fan, I still think the Cubs will win the division and get bounced in the playoffs by either the Mets, Dodgers or Padres. GO BREWERS

Disagree. I didn't root for the Astros in '05, nor the Tigers or Indians. I just plain didn't care in '05 when the postseason began. Just about all the Cubs fans I know didn't care much either. There were some meatheads. I remember thinking how much it would have pained me to see a NL Central team win the WS (in '05, '06 with the damned Cards was pretty bad). Right now, I don't care about the Sox, or the Indians or whoever is in their division, cause I care about the Cubs, not the Sox. To cheer for a hated team's rival makes no sense. It's kind of childish.

I dont see how Cubs fans could not react to the WS of '05. It further emphasized the Cubs futility over the years since the Sox beat them to the title. and most Cubs fans i know did root against the sox in 05. The fact that the White Sox and Cardinals have won the past two WS has to annoy cubs fans. I am a white sox fan and i hope the cubs dont make the playoffs because it is annoying to have friends that are cubs fans hold it over your head all winter. So yeah i root against the cubs and for the brewers and i dont see negative in that. Go Brewers!

It is annoying to see the WS and STL win. No doubt. But, that does not reflect on the Cubs. It reflects on those teams. I don't see why you'd let the Cubs going to the playoffs get held over your head all winter unless you were an ass in 05 to the Cubs fans.

i really dont care this year either. sox are bad, but playing better so ive been enjoying that over the last few games. the cubs have been red hot, but i havent been openly rooting for or against them. i really dont care. if they make the playoffs, i probably wont be rooting for or against them, but if they fail to make the playoffs, there will be some friendly chiding coming from me

True, but i think it also magnifies the cubs failures, since those are arguably the two biggest rivals for the cubs. It's not like im checking box scores every night of brewers games, and cursing the baseball gods if the brewers lose a game, but if i see them on i would prefer to see them winning. I guess its just two different sports fans. I personally like seeing my team do well, and the main rival of my team doing poorly. Some sports fans, such as darkside and frank costanza, just prefer that their team wins and they are indifferent to every other team in the league. I dont really see the latter being better than the former necessarily.

I do think rooting for/celebrating others injuries is pretty shitty though, especially if its a serious injury. thats why after 1999, i lost a ton of respect for eagles fans

Touche Frank. Hit the nail in the head. Our Sox have had their time in the sun and that was great. The fall has been pretty painfull and somewhat unexpected. That has been made worse by the fact that your crosstown rival is making a run to the division. It was nice having all the attention, being able to gloat. Sox fans dont want to not have that feather in their hat--the only world series title. Stupid, yes. But also true.

At least Mac is honest about his fandom. He does not pretend to be a fans of both teams like almost every other phony sports radio host in town. I can see where this is annoying to Cubs fans but I do appreciate the honesty.

In addition, why is it so bad for somebody to be a fan of one team in town and hate the other? Personally, I am a Sox fan and I hate the Cubs. I could list the reasons why, but does it really matter? I understand that there are plenty of Cubs fans who hate the White Sox and I am cool with that. Why does rooting against the Cubs make me a low-class person? I am a Bears fan that hates the Packers and nobody has a problem with that. What is the difference?

I don't want anybody on the Cubs to die, but I don't see anything wrong with rooting for them to fail miserably. Isn't that what being a sports fan is about? You root for the team / athletes that you like to win and you root agains the ones that you don't. Anybody who claims that they never root against specific teams or athletes is either some kind of Mother Theresa - type great person or just completely full of shit.

Agree! I respect people that pick a team rather than saying "I like both". Those people just make me want to throw up. Any male in Chicago above the age of 5 needs to pick a team and stick with them.

Darkside, you've been nailing it this entire thread, but ESPECIALLY the last point. Friendly chiding is fine. It's a rivalry that I don't really understand, but it's here and I don't have to like it. Good natured ribbing is fine and thankfully there's the Bears to heal our civic wounds. Openly enjoying and hoping for the misery of others is borderline sociopathic. People like that make me weary.
On another good point
I didn't root for any team or against the Sox at any time. Why would I? To do so implies the Sox have meaning in my life. They have none. I respect what they did and that's it. Rooting for the Brewers implies that the Cubs successes <insert punchline of "what successes?" here for the meatheads> have power over you and worry you. Idiotic.
To hear Mac today crowing and gloating over "the collapse of the Cubs" is must turn off radio for me. Harry's team of destiny stupidity annoyed me, but it was merely cloying. Mac's indirect delight at the suffering of someone else is repugnant.
On a more civil and "friendly chiding" note, how did that prediction of the Cubs being "only five games over .500 after tomorrow's game" turn out you gave Friday afternoon?

Some good points have been made. Some real idiocy present also, like the predictable "he should watch his team" crap. My team isn't generating much discussion; the Cubs are. And I really want them to win the division. I like to travel -on the company dime - to cool cities. Plus, if they make it the World Series, it's an opportunity to see them collapse on a grander stage. Dickhead? You bet. At least I have chosen a lane, as somebody pointed out.

Let's not be melodramatic. To say that Mac is crowing over someone's suffering is a bit much.

Who is genuinely suffering? Cubs fans because they lost their star player? Soriano, because he has a strained quad?

Sorry, but that does not qualify as suffering as far as i am concerned. Soriano will rest for a while, spend a few hours a day rehabbing, then come back to play baseball in September, all the while collecting 6-figure paychecks every 2 weeks.

If that is real suffering, I would like to do a l little suffering.
