...the mice have played. I couldn't help myself Thursday morning and checked in here to see what was happening at the Emily Barr Center. I was disappointed, but certainly not surprised, to read your thumbs downs on the ill-fated "dog bits." They later were explained to me by the stout and powerful one, Mr. Adam Delevitt.

It's abundantly clear Harry enjoys "spreading his wings" while the Good Kid and I are gone. We can't mandate he takes time off when we do, even though knocking out vacation time simultaneously was the dynamic on which the three of us agreed a couple years ago.

I have no "planned" time away until the Thanksgiving long weekend and the end of the year, but I heavy-handedly will stress to the producers and to LJC and AD we cannot afford the Harry & Spike routine to continue. I no longer will accept "it was only a minute or two" as justification for a miserable bit, and that includes all three of us, not just Harry.

Your thoughts on the show, and not only this past week, have been read and processed by your humble head barkeep and I will address the direction of the show in a more lengthy post in the next couple of days. Thank you, as always, for your suggestions; they are valuable to me.

On an unrelated note, if you're an ice cream lover, the Ben & Jerry's production plant in Waterbury, Vermont must be a destination for you. We went Thursday morning and had an absolute blast. Three bucks buys you a tour of the facility and a tasting of the flavor of the day, which was a new one called Cinammon Buns. I had to double down on a fresh scoop of Chunky Monkey afterward, then immediately proceed to the gym for Commitment To Annoyance. Like the Stones, "I'm a monkaaaaaaayyyyy, yeah."

Looking forward to getting back to midwestern soil in the morning and taking my show to new heights.

i was in the minority...because unlike everyone else, i didn't hate it. i thought it was bad, but it was funny in the reflection by the other two how bad it was, especially carmen.

i also loved finji on the air.

Well Dan Plesac liked the dog bit. That's gotta be worth something.

I didn't think the dog thing was that bad.

Harry sure gets a hard time from everybody, including Dan. It gets alittle old after a while.

You don't like him, we get it. But Some of your listeners may disagree. You have to admit that he is very important to this show.

Mac - sorry about your loss in the "Who's Now" competition. Probably wasn't totally fair that the event took place while you were gone.

Mac probably has no idea what you're talking about. But in that vein, a post like the one above could have swayed many voters...

Regarding your post, Mac, I was also under the understanding that as a result of the fracas last year that it was agreed that the show would be all three or nothing. It seems like Harry is looking for such an opening to bring his stand up act to the air (which I'm sure gets shot down by you and Jurko in the prod. meetings).

As others have stated here, for the most part, I appreciate much (not all) of what Harry brings to the show...when kept on a short leash...which only happens when all three of you are there.

Mac,

If you're still in the area, there is a GREAT restaurant in Middlebury Vermont (cool New England town) called Fire & Ice. The Prime Rib & Sea Food are top notch. Impressive Salad Bar as well. :D

I think the majority of listeners disagree with you. What is very old is Harry's act.
He may at one time, long ago, have been an important part of the show, but now he's a constant irritant and really hurts the show.
I respect the fact that you may enjoy Harry, but I think many don't and change the dial because of him.

Mac, please tell me your recent diet hasn't caused you to reconsider your relationship with Allen Brothers Steak....I'm looking forward to trying to figure out how to grill ribs, prime rib and other various meat products while I watch da Bears this fall & I'll need some advice from the Mac that eats beef, not rice cakes....
And don't worry about the show while you're on vacation. Pretend that it doesn't even exist, that's what I do

I'm gonna take a break from pullin' the goalie and beat a dead horse...

When is Harry going to realize that whenever he "spreads his wings" it results in abject failure? IIRC, his previous attempts at hosting a radio show were complete busts, and IMHO the only reason he's been on a successful show for these 5 or 6 consecutive years is because he finally got hooked up with someone who knows how to keep people from punching the button.

Speaking of which, whenever I punch the button, 97% of the time it's because of Harry. The only thing worse than him talking for more than 20 consecutive seconds about anything (verbally fellating a player, "team of destiny" type nonsense, verbally fellating a sponsor) is him talking for more than 10 consecutive seconds about horse racing.

Krazy Ivan...I realize one man's trash is another man's treasure, and I'm not trying to be an ass, but aside from being a punching bag for Mac and Jurko, in what way is Harry an important part of the show?

Yeah one thing that I am not sure if Mac has covered before in any of the Ask Mac segments or any other place is: Does Harry know he is being a complete failure as an entertainer? Does he realize how many people are turned off and disgusted by his idea of comedy? If he does realize it, and thinks it is good radio because it gets people talking, he is an even bigger loser than i had previously thought. If he doesnt realize it, and he is some naive happy go lucky moron that cant speak intelligently about much, than i guess you almost have to be sympathetic towards him in the same way you would be sympathetic to a 3 yr old that eats a crayon and then starts crying

To each his own I guess.

While I agree that Harry can go a bit overboard at times, I disagree that he is somehow single-handedly bringing the show down. I've found myself just as bored at times with Mac an Jurko as I've been with Harry.

When all three are there, it is a much better show. There is no disputing that. Overall, I find Harry to be pretty clever most of the time but I can see why some don't.

There is a reason this show has been succesfull for the past 6 years, and I think everyone involved should get credit for it.

Harry fits fine into the MJH regular show. He tends to stick out more when there isn't a true driver of the show there, and this where we get some of those bad comedy, Harry taking over the show moments.

obviously the show works better when all 3 are there and in top form. i think a lot of that has to do with mac and jurko keeping harry in check. harry works very well, for the most part, with mac and jurko there (except for the 2 games over .500 team of destiny BS)

harry's expanding role is directly proportional to the show's quality when mac and jurko arent there

I'm looking forward to next week to see if the show will be better with Mac and Jurko and the guy auditioning WITHOUT Harry there. I bet it will be. Harry is useless, simplistic and just not funny. Little wonder he's a failed comedian, he really is just not funny. Time for him to move on, or better yet, time for them to lose him.

He's making probably high five, possibly six figures as an entertainer. Is that a failure?

Dumbass.

I'm with Ivan on this one and if being a failure in entertainment means having a spot on a successful afternoon radio show in a major market I'll take it.

Is WR on the same vacay schedule as Mac? Does he come out of the woodwork after Monday night?

Welcome back Mac. I think Finji was drowned out last week- would be open to him having another shot. Thanks for reading the Board, Harry was a bit out of control last week. Now that the Cubs are in 1st place... here we go....

I think the thing that made me more sick was Harry proclaiming how great the Cubs are, with no one reeling him in. And I'm a die hard cubs fan.

I've wondered for years who Harry has photos of. It's a shame that Mac and Jurko were forced to take Harry on their show. I know that I would definately listen more if Harry wasn't on the show.

I picked a helluva week to have our company's North American Sales Meeting. It sounds like I didn't miss too much on the "H sans MJ Show" this week.

...and if anybody wants to do something 'off the beaten' path - I had our company's 'competitive event' at Chicago Indoor Racing in Buffalo Grove. One helluva time. 50 grown men (10 teams of 5) racing for an hour and a half. Much like the Bears/Saints Trivia - my team came in last place - despite your's truly logging the fastest lap times. ....there's no 'me' in team - just the boss's brother dragging us down with his Sunday Driver ways. ;)

I can't wait to hear the 900lbs of Man Meat back together on Monday.
