Post subject:  Thoughts from today's show

In the last hour of the Tuesday show, Mac goes into an introduction of himself to the audience. Said introduction went through his producing Coppock, working for the Score, interviewing Jurko several times, finding him to be a football guy who doesn't hide in football-speak, they make plans to one day rule the world... He even ties in Dickerson's time at the Score, and dissatisfaction with assignments garnered there

1. Which seemed a little odd, but okay. So he and Jurko wanted to find a venue where they can work together. Huzzah, because it's here and now. (And technically, then, because this is hardly a new pairing.)

2. I smiled thinking, "what, is this your announcement that Harry's been launched?"

3. And your vote for Dickerson as guy #3?

But then, I was thinking of how nicely the Monday show went, with just Mac and Jurko. What do they really need a third voice for? Be it Dickerson, Hoodie, Harry... The two of them can carry a show without too much stress.

Thoughts solicited.

I agree that just the two of them were very good. I really don't see the need for a third person at all, unless they aren't confident enough without a third wheel along for the ride. I think they can carry the show very well with just two people. The third, especially in Harry's case, is just a distraction from good discussion.

I liked the two together but I think a third would be better.

How about having a rotating third man in the booth, based on the season. Carm would work for basketball season. Hood for football (college perspective). Maybe a Finji for baseball season...

Mac's Bio was rather strange. It was almost like he was introducing himself to Chicago for the first time. That's about all I heard from today's show......

As I said, I did not hear this (wish I had). We all know that Mac loves talk about the good ol' days--how many times has he said he would like to do a one-time reunion show with Terry. But, it usually just idle chit chat that does not mean a whole lot. But, Mac did elude to a coming post that addressed the boards concerns about the show. I honestly think that Harry is on a scheduled vacation. Mac and Jurko talked about him being at the birthday bash. I doubt Harry would show up to the party if Jurko and Mac had run him off the show. But, I could be wrong. For the record, I like the 3 man dymanic. I think it captures the essence of the neighborhood corner tavern. But, it could need some new blood. JD would be a good pick as could Drinky.

JD would talk circles around Drinky. JD is ten times the host that Drinky is...I suspect that JD works harder on his craft than Drinky does....

I think the most telling part of Mac's introduction was his omission of Harry. I know he wasn't there today but if you're going to reintroduce the show to the public I would think a few words about the absent co-host would be necessary. Maybe it's a little F U from Mac...I don't know really. But it did strike me a little funny, unlike Harry. I don't dislike Harry as much as some others on this board, but I think his character and his role on this show may have run its course. I think Harry was there in the beginning to serve a crutch and make up for any shortcomings Jurko might have as a radio personality. But over the past few years, Jurko has developed a greater on-air presence and, although I don't think he's able to drive the show, I think he'd be entertaining as a partner with Mac alone and eliminate Harry from the show. As far as rotating partners, I'd say no. I thought the same thing at first, but I think maybe steal a bit from the old Dan Patrick Show and have an additional host (ala Keith Olberman) for one hour of the show...I feel retarded for stealing ideas from DP.

I caught that too. And, they put a caller on the air today who recommended putting a lock on the studio door so Tiny couldn't get back in upon his return....

I think you might be right.

I'd like them to have a third person. There are times when Jurko falls asleep or parrots what Mac says. I think you need somebody who would have an opposing view point or a different outlook. At this point Harry may have more of an antagonistic view point and I think that is what is the problem. JD is not a good fit here, neither is Carmen or Hood.

Respectfully disagree here. Just b/c JD works harder doesn't mean he's a more entertaining listen. Plus, he's truly a show driver, not a third wheel.

Personally I respect what he does but I don't really want to hear him on a daily basis in afternoon drive. He's kind of a douche.

I respectfully disagree. JD is a far better listen than "drinky". Matt does have a career, however, in sponsoring hangover supplements.

JD definitely sounded out of place today, like he wasn't sure where he fit into the dynamic. He almost seemed to be intentionally staying out of their way, and only chimed in at times when a) Mac/Jurko specifically addressed him, or b) Mac signalled to him that it was JD's turn to speak.

I like Dickerson a lot, but filling in for Harry is something he shouldn't be asked to do. He's a much better substitute for Mac as driver.

If Harry were no longer on the show I would recommend a strong sports update person who could also contribute thoughts every once in a while rather than a full fledged third host. I have just the person for you and she just became available a few months ago....

Seriously though, could you imagine the hilarity if the breast feeding until the age of 5 was told in front of Mac and Jurko?

Post subject:  3rd wheel

I think the show is consistently better as a three person team, but the key is the #3 knowing that he/she is a #3. If everyone knows their roles, then the operation will run smoothly. Problems arise when guys think they are on even ground with each other when they clearly are not. As for who would make a good #3 - that is open for discussion - which is what you guys (and Spaulding) are doing.

I am enjoying your thoughts on the current cast of 1000'ers. I think discussions about personnel and what roles they best fit into at the station is good fodder.

I'm pleased we meet with your approval.

(I'm happy you're glad; I'm glad you're happy)

I think that would be the best scenario, but it's become very obvious that Harry and has naked pictures of Jim Pastor won't be leaving anytime soon.

I've yet to figure out the love for Drinky on this board... I don't find him that entertaining.

You're right. I had a similiar thought a few months ago.

I saw your picture in West Suburban Living July/Aug. Good job on the charity work.

Towards the end of the show yesterday Mac said who was going to be joining he and Jurko tomorrow, and then dejectedly said, alluding to Harry's return on Monday "and Monday, *sigh*...will be Monday."

I might be a little off on the quote, but IIRC that's pretty close.

Monday might be a day for a lot of self-control for someone of our acquaintance. I'd rather be there for the meeting.
