My migraine force me to turn off radio before show ended. But I kept hearing warm fuzziness out of my MJH. What fun is that?

I thought it sounded uncomfortable for quite a while.

Rating the last six shows(all with a different mix of people), I enjoyed them in this order

1) Mac and Jurko
2) Mac, Jurko and Carm
3) Mac, Jurko and Finji
4) Mac, Jurko and JD
5) Mac, Jurko and Harry
6) Mac, Jurko and JHood

Just my silly opinion. Feel free to rank your own order on the 6 shows.

BTW Mac, how did the BIG monday meeting go? You brought up, how about filling us in.

Give it a break, I think Hood was loud and tried too hard to dominate the damn show.

I don't mind him at night when he seems far more relaxed and entertaining.

Go call Jesse Jackson. Maybe he can shakedown ESPN.

Good Christ, that's true of every show Hood subs on. ESPN & the Score.

Where's our Monday morning meeting briefing, Mac?

Well I got some Nas in me if you pardon the expression, and apparently SID has got a lil Pappy in him. Cue the Dean Martin!!!!!

I thought he did an excellent job. I will admit that when he's on MJH, that he does play the "I'm a black guy" angle too much at times. But overall I wouldn't mind the MJH standing for Mac, Jurko and Hoody....

Meeting isn't completely finished. We talked today about regular contributors and a few other items, but we have a lot more to go Tuesday.

Here are some programming notes you can pencil in for September.

Many here have said Critics needed tweaking. Here's what we're doing. 4:20 (ish), 6:20 (ish) every Tuesday, beginning 8/28. Two shots every Tues. in football season. And we're trying to cut out the minutae. This board often has many great (and deliciously vicious) analysis of analysts. Please e them to us or call the show.

Many people say they get little from the player/coach interviews. We agree. We're trying to get better at interviews, but willing, engaging participants are not abundant. We're going to use our paid insiders a little more than we have.

JD's Bears coverage is quite solid. When the Bears are at Halas Hall, we'll use him early and again later most days. His sked could sway with news conferences, interviews, etc., but we're gonna get JD on as close to 3:40 and 5:40 every day. We think his Bears knowledge/enthusiasm, coupled with a soundbyte or two from players/coaches, beats trying to pull sentences out of indifferent guests' mouths.

Bruuuuuuuceeee He's with the Cubs every day the rest of the season.... and on the road ("I see ya brought your cars?" "We're on the road." Sorry.... Reg Dunlop exchange with the Hansons on the brain). If we wanna talk to a Cub or one of their opponents, Bruce will do his best to get one of them on the show. Danny Plesac also is going to weekly.

John Clayton does the NFL on Wednesdays at 4:00. We are considering who the right college insider is.... plenty of time left to do so. With the Bears and the CUbs... there isn't a ton of time to do a lot of college stuff. We kind of like Bob Davie. Maybe he'll pop up this week or next. We're trying to get Herbstreet, too. Additionally, we'll try to get the right coaches on as the teams' seasons take shape.

Sunday Night John will appear sparingly.... a lot of it produced rather than live. Sometimes Frank Caliendo will roll out of some of his other "puppets." We believe picking the best in production beats trying to make an interview with a very talented comedian/impersonator work. That segment has produced some home runs and some really, really bad at bats.

Who Do You Love? is (again) new and improved. One listener gets his best three in every day on the show. Differing ways to qualify. A perfect 3-0 gets you Allen Brothers meats and the chance to come back the following week. WDYL? also may get two shorter pops, rather than a 9 or 10 minutes hunk of time.

Opens and rejoins will be a smidge shorter.

There is no almanac "segment" any more. We do a very quick celebrity birthday list. We also think "Unplugging It" as a concept in the final hour has run its course. We'll talk entertainment, food, life, etc., from time to time. We also will aim to keep that "tight" and not drone forever about non-sports topics. The Unplugged Hour, per se, however, has been, well, unplugged.

There will be more grass roots promotional involvement. Some football viewing parties, appearances, events, etc.

I know a lot of this may not be that exciting. Maybe Tuesday's meeting has more stuff you guys really want to read about. I think the potential is there for that.

This is another example of why I believe they listen to us directly and believe we are a good representative sample of the listening core. Mac is telling as much!!! lol. Good changes for the most part Mac, I like the idea of Hirbstriet, I dont like his hosting of a 3 hour show necessarility but he knows college football, Bruce every day with the cubs is obvious well because the Sox are validating bigfans claims every day they play, and overall the show has been more enjoyable the pasy week and a day. I hate to sound like everybody else and say it is just cuz Mac is back, but that really seems to be it. Jurko actually gives a shit and brings good stuff, Harry tunes it down and actually gives a valid opinion once in awhile. Theres alot of indirect things Mac directly influences by coming back, not just directly him only coming back that makes it the best show on radio

Totally agree - I hate when someone calls in to comment on some analyst's misspoken sentences, unless it is truly funny. Too many people nitpick just to get on the air. IMHO, don't be afraid to pull the plug on one of the segments if there just isn't anything worth airing; I think that's been one of the problems with the segment. You guys feel obligated to air the segment when there aren't enough callers to justify it. Maybe make it primarily email, where people can collect their thoughts before sending them in? If there's a good caller, obviously include him/her, but at least you'll have more editorial control.

The best interviews you guys have put on have been guys who you have a more personal relationship with - the Mark Buehrles and even Scott Skiles of the world. DeRosa seems to be on this path, and is a good interview. Stick to people who you'd want to have a beer with (or club soda in your case Danny), or guys who seem to listen to the show. That's what has made Plesac so good, and one of the reasons Chico was so good over the last two years. This will be what makes Plesac, Clayton, and JD's calls so worthwhile.

The rest of the stuff seems to be solid to me - especially more viewing parties and appearances, as opposed to remotes. Guys like doug, Grid, and Slappy all got to be friendly with you because they could BS with you. Unfortunately, remotes don't offer that much of an opportunity to do it without segment starts hanging over all your heads. If people find out more about you, as opposed to finding out what your show looks like live, I think you'll find more members of the Dan McNeil Ass Licking Society.

These are just my one and a half cents - its too early in the am to give you the full two...I look forward to the changes.

I would recommend that you devote 10 or so minutes on Friday to replay all of the predictions and analysis gathered during the week, and then add MJH predictions.

I agree completely.

That beats the old, "we had a good practice - I feel good - we'll be ready for them" interviews.

I like everything I've read, but this. In 20 hours a week, there's got to be some time for college football. A Friday segement with Kirk H. would be great, but even talking about some of the week's big matchups and a little Big 10 ball would be fine. I don't know about everyone else, but I would love to see more college football talk.

I may not be the correct person to have this criticism since I am not a Cubs fan but can you please ban the phrase "team of destiny" for any team? I really hope that the Bears don't become a "team of destiny" too. For some reason, it really annoys me.

Every team is a team of destiny. They just all have to wait to find out what that destiny is until the end of the season.

The epitome of a tease.... I do like the changes you are suggesting, esp. the C@XL tweak. Is Musburger too big to join you for CFB input? I'd think his take would be interesting.

Spmack,

After 3 days, I changed my mind
I'm moving Hood up to #5
and Mac, Jurko and Harry to dead last. Harry really does need to be replaced. USELESS is the only word I can think of to describe his contribution to the show.

Before I'm banned from here for life can SID post something courteous about Harry?

Hell, you probably don't even have $350.
To answer your question, probably not while he's still on the air.
