Just caught the re-rack of the "Thome" interview and the guy has a little "Jimmy Two Times" in him. You would think Thome's skills as a MLB player would translate to a good interview as there has been a mic in his face for the last decade but no ...Not very well spoken and a box of rocks type of character to me. |

He comes across as somewhat slow, but also a likable guy. |

Yeah, he seems to genuinely want to be on the White Sox, and I could be naive but he also sounds like he genuinely believes the fans of Chicago to be the best in the country. Anyone would look good coming from Philly I guess though. |

He's always happy and nice. That trait in people makes me uncomfortable. Humans shouldn't be that way. It's not natural If you're always happy and nice it either means your hiding something or dumb. I'll go with you STU. I think Jimmy is dumb too. |

You can easily be happy and nice, and not a dumbass. Its entirely possible that Thome just doesnt speak well when he knows its going to be broadcasted, nervousness or whatever the cause. I wouldnt say hes an idiot just because he has a bit of Jimmy Two Times in him and hes a nice guy. |

I know. I am pessimistic. I'm not just talking about Thome doing interviews. That's fine if your that way then. From all acounts by his teammates and coaches he's just the nicest guy all the time. It's fine. He's a wonderful man. I'm just saying people who I meet like that make me nervous. I guess that makes me an ass hole. I should have more faith in goodness. |

I agree with FavreFan. I don't really think that's fair to say. Not everybody has to be an a-hole. |

He is from Peoria. At least he can put a few sentences together - Ok Vinnie, but it's the same sentence over and over. I have heard from many that he is a very nice guy and helps out his homwtown and the kids back in Peoria and that is noble and I tip my cap to the man but take an internet class on how to speak with the media is all Im saying. |

Point taken Stu. Athletes generally don't have much personality and it does make for a pretty dull listen. Anybody remember the Ben Gordon interview earlier this year? Trainwreck. |

[Thome] you know what? the bottom line is, the bottom line is, is that this is a guy who just hit his 500th career HR and he deserved to be on air and get a little recognition. [/Thome] |

Didn't hear this interview but have heard a lot of his past interviews. Don't get the 'dumb' vibe, but he tries to answer every question fully, with a real thought out answer, and sometimes it can end up dragging on |

I would say he is an exact match for Woody from Cheers. |

Thome isn't paid to do good interviews. He's paid to hit a baseball as far as he can. Period. And one of the few genuine nice guys in sports. So he's a farm boy from Peoria. So what if he sounds like it? For crying out loud, he's putting all of his nieces and nephews through school to help his family out! This is a guy who sits on his porch on Halloween, and gives away actual big candy bars, takes pictures/signs autographs with anyone who wants one, and donates his time and effort to helping any cause he can. So what if he sounds like Forrest Gump; he's in a pretty exclusive club now with the 500th homer. |

So what if he sounds like it? Never said the guy was a douchebag and we all agree he's a great human being but the point of this post is that he's not very articulate which translates into a ackward radio interview. I will again say that after 10 years in MLB you would of thought his interview skills would be above that of a Single A ball player. |

I think Thome is consciously trying to be a likable dude, but he is too lazy to perfect his faking skills or is a very talentless actor. That's why he keeps talking in circles with the same cliche answers to everything over and over again. |

It must be a regional thing, because my roommate from college, from Knoxville, IL, has the exact same accent. |

Liking this thread this morning. Jimmy Two Times Thome. Nice. Noticed the same thing during the replay on Finji's post-game show. Here's the prop bet... and we'll have the answer today: what did the likeable caveman do more, say "ya know?" or repeat his thought ("The bottom line... the bottom line is....") Off topic.... the Cubs outfield was solid last night, wasn't it? Yeesh. |

I know it's a big 'Im Happy for ya' but met Jim last year at his benefit for childrens hospital in Peoria and the guy is the most down to earth and nicest guy's I have ever met PERIOD. It was his benefit and he went up to everyone and thanked them and there was over 500 people at this thing and asked if we had anything to sign and thanked us for letting him sign stuff. I appericate guys who know they have a gift and give back to help people who can use it and Jim is one of those guys. Is he a good speaker? NO.... But the guy show his true colors when it comes to being a guy who knows where he came from and what it is to helping people without the cameras and media. |

Thanks for the Harry type post Slapsnuts. Yeah , Slappy here.. I just want to take a second and tell you guys that Chris Chelios and Jim Thome are great guys because they said hello to me. Better light the fire place and put a log on it for his visit with Brian Urlacher. |
