Mac.....What do you want your callers to say when you pick up the phone already.?? "Thanks for taking my CALL'? "Hello" .."What's up?"

"Eat me " ..Blow ME".. ?? These poeple are calling "YOU" and when you pick up as Im sure they have been using the telephone for better than half of their life and you tell me what's the first thing you say to a person who's calling you ..HOW YOU DOING IS THE CORRECT ANSWER.

Let up on your patrons ..

My thing is some of these people are on hold for 20 minutes and they listen to the show and by this point you can easily forget exactly what you called about. I'm sure just sayin how are you is a chance to settle in as a caller. I get it Mac, but seriously do you really think you are going to change the 20+ year-old habits of talk show callers?

"Let it go!" :o

Of course these three don't even come close to treating listeners the way two people do down the dial so I suppose we're nit picking compared to B&B.

You know, out of the 12 times i heard the interview I can't remember. Wouldn't be funny as hell if he asked and Mac went ape shit on him?

"WE'RE FINE ROMO! HEY, EVERY GUEST, WE'RE FINE F OFF! .... So Tony, what's the one thing that worries you the most when playing the Bears Sunday night?"

I just go right into my point or points. It's really not that hard. Just a matter of training yourself to MJH rules. Kinda like the muscle memory approach the Bears coaches use when they call a play action pass on 3 and 34.

My God, it's just not that tough....When the guys take your call you can say Hi fella's and then get to your point-or as I always do, say "Good afternoon guy's" and then on to the point, or question. Asking how they are, is stupid and a waste of time for the on-air personalities as well as for the listeners. I have to agree with Mac on that.

As a listner of talk radio I get extremely annoyed if a caller asks "How are you doing?" and then WAITS for the host to respond.

Personally I find it funny that Mac's annoyed with it since he starts every stinking interview with "How ya feeling?"

How's that funny? It can be a relevant/topical question.

I absolutely agree, and posted that once in the ask Mac thread. He asks every guest, "how's it going?", but he gets annoyed with callers opening up the same way.

The thing that makes Mac great is that little things annoy him and provide us with entertainment. Look at his attention to poor grammar.

Its completely different. The guest interviewee isnt answering Hows it goin 50 times previous to Mac asking that. If Mac didnt have to answer it more than 5 or 6 times a show it would be considerably less annoying.

I agree it’s completely different, but again, I feel like telling callers this is trying to change the overall culture of talk show callers of the past 20 years. I think it's dumb to ask how they're doing, but it's going to inevitably happen most of the time. Again when someone is on hold for 20 minutes to hopefully add to the show for 20 seconds I think it'd be ok to cut the caller some slack for saying "How's it going?" It's just a natural thing to say when you're on the phone. I understand Mac's displeasure, but I feel it may be less work to just give up on that fight.

It's equally stupid for Mac to ask interviewees how they are feeling.

Why? The point is if you are listening to the show, then you already know how the guys are doing because they've said so off the top of the show and the last 7 callers asked them. Mac hasn't been sitting in on the entire day of Tony Romo to know how he is doing. He really doesn't know and the audience doesn't know either.

When you are a slave to the wheel with time constraints, why waste time with inane banter?

Author:  Woodridge Ryan [ Tue Sep 25, 2007 2:46 pm ]

Because it may not be inane banter. Sometimes we found out something unique about hoe they are doing...something interesting that occured in their day, plus it's a courteous thing to do for your guest? I think these are two different things. I understand your position, but don't really believe it's a fair comparison.

For those who don't dabble in the B&B section I posted a thread about Bernstein going off on a caller today for asking how they were doing .

In a Mac LIKE RANT Bernstien screamed at the caller AFTER ASKING , How you guys doing..... "WERE FINE, WEVE BEEN FINE AND WERE GOING TO BE FINE and that goes for any of you who are calling in"! The caller , said nicely, 'I was just trying to be polite Dan...No repsone for Bernsie.

My question to Mac is , Did you and Bernsie discuss this on the plane? I've never heard him get pissed like that so I figured Mac put a bug in his ear. You can get JERKED OFF by the "Hello game" with Bersnie, but don't ask how he's doing.

I've heard them do that all the time. Get upset at the unnecessary pleasantries. He just usually doesn't blow up about it.
