Most of you posters are younger fellas (and ladies) so this may not apply to you.... but I could use a tip from any 40-somethings out there.

I recently went three months without a drink. I lost 30 pounds and have been eating healthier. That said, by noon on Friday I feel like collapsing... like Jurko in the old 6:00 hour.... zero energy, without the assistance of massive caffeine blasts.

Help. Anyone.

Yeah, I think I recall the short term energy a little yeaho can bring. Enough to count the ceiling tiles until sunrise. I'm gonna continue to abstain. Does "sexual activity" include pulling the goalie? Just curious.

Thanks for the quick responses. Good carbs/ almost no starch has been employed for some time already. I do need to cut back on the coffee... but it's tough. MensHealth was a regular read in the late '90s. Liked the mag, but a lot of sameness issue to issue. I will check out that article recommended on the website. My Dear Friend Mack-a-delic, I do no think you will find an older man than I. I have one word for you, Ginkgo. It will improve your circulation and keep your oxygen saturation a little higher that you are currently experienceing. It has been my experience that when one loses as much weight as you have been taht you are not consuming enough iron as well. Lower iron means less effective hemoglobin. less hemoglobin also restricts the amount of oxygen that your blood can carry. I would also recommend an iron suppliment. You are restricting your carbs too aren't you? My friend, carbs are not your enemy, too many are. You should keep eating them in proportion. At your age, less sexual activity can create less serotonin inyour brain, and could cause lethargy, especially after sunset (still not well understood my science why). You may be experiencing either a drop in blood sugar because it has been too long since you have eaten, or you could have had a quick surge in blood sugar followed by a sharp drop. Did you eat a high glycemic lunch? Refined carbohydrates/sugar/very large meals can cause this. A piece of fruit and some protein can be a good natural pick me up. If you just started eating well, it is possible that you're feeling tired because your body is getting rid of all the toxins. Its common to feel worse when you initially start eating well. The sugar you used to have to prevent tiredness is gone and so your body will have to get used to creating energy for itself. Avoid or limit caffeine, get a good 7 – 8 hours sleep per night,drink water to prevent dehydration.

Lay off the carbs. Whenever I lay off the carbs, I have tons of energy and even need less sleep. I find that my energy evaporation is directly proportionate to carb intake. After a pasta dinner, I feel like passing out. Dr Atkins was on to something.

Mac, It may well be your diet. Are you ingesting a fair amount of fruits and vegetables? Just because you are eating a diet lower in transfats and one with a low caloric count, doen't mean it's a great diet. If you aren't getting enough vegetables and fruits daily, that may be your problem. Also, are you still smoking? If you are going to be healthier and feel good, you really should give that a lot of thought. How any intelligent person can smoke-knowing all the damage it does to their health (not only cutting one's length of life, but their quality of life) is beyond me. Elmhurst Steve

Thanks for the quick responses. Good carbs/ almost no starch has been employed for some time already. I do need to cut back on the coffee... but it's tough. MensHealth was a regular read in the late '90s. Liked the mag, but a lot of sameness issue to issue. I will check out that article recommended on the website.
