Sorry for the Bobby Darin reference.

I think it would appropriate to post thoughts since Mac is having his back surgery on 10/31.

Mac,
Since my in-laws have been in the hospital often enough to be a first name basis with the ER, ICU, and SICU staffs, I offer up this advice:

Have someone ask questions about everything and anything. Don't assume that information will be offered up, or if they are doing something to you "it's for your own good."

Very few nurses are hot, much less very hot. Get whatever fantasies about them out. Now!, if the back allows.

The food is often underrated.

Screaming at said nurses will do you less good than being nice to them. Same for the other staff.

Value the time you have with your doctors, especially your surgeon. Got a question?, ask it.

I could go on, but I'm sure others will have more clever remarks.

Good luck, Mac.

PS. please veto any promotions or sponsorship deals that JLC may be considering....

T

You obviously have not been to the Northwestern maternity ward. It's like a southern sorority there. I believe this is done as a cruel twist...like having strippers at an erectile dysfunction clinic.

I just want to know if he's going to let Stoner Jeff airbrush "Mac, Jurko and Harry 3-7PM Weekdays on ESPN AM1000" on his plastic protective turtle shell.

Nothing says promotion like self-promotion.

as a back surgery veteran *cough* i offer up the following responses:

1. You know what...the only thing I would suggest here is to find out the what the drugs are going to be post op. most likely they'll hook you up to the morphine drip. go with the demerol Mac. it's much smoother....bring the mp3 player loaded with favorite "bong journey music" and enjoy the ride.

2. totally disagree....however, i must say that i was on the Peds-Oncology ward and the 26 year old nurses were SMOKING!!!

3. ugh...keep it. i couldn't even have them bring that filth into the room. but, that likely had to do with my sense of smell and taste changing b/c of the chemo. so...i guess go with your nose.

4. when the desire to scream arises see drugs in #1.

5. yep.

6. drugs!

if they do a "wake up test"...see if you can remember it.
also, try to remember counting backwards, the lights over your head, the doctors and nurses in scrubs and masks.
it's just like in a movie.

He went for the estrogen treatments on Wednesday. By this afternoon he'll sound like Richard Simmons.

Hey Mac, will we be hearing from you more often while you are on the DL (in relation to this board)? Or will it be too hard to type while laying on your stomach and/or back?

Looks like either a fusion or a discectomy. Not sure which until they do this discography procedure on the 13th. They stick needles through my disks and inject stuff until I'm in pain to see which disks are causing pain. Sweeeet, I can't wait.

Post subject:  In general

In general if you're going into the hospital have someone with you at all times if at all possible to write everything down the doctor and/or nurse said and to make sure things go right.

Also chances are a friend of mine was Mac's nurse at one point or another. She is gorgeous. If he's at Evanston Hospital she probably was.

You're too young to fuse unless you're really fucked up. Most won't do a fusion until 40 typically. Good luck.

I don't know if that is encouraging or not..... What if the poor guy has a really messed up back and now he will stew about it until the 13th....
