Hey Mac, 1) How ya doin'? 2) We understand you have some free time on your hands - any good recent DVD viewings? 3) Thoughts on the 'big' Colts/Pats game? 4) Thoughts on hot stove rumors - like the White Sox reported interest in a fat 3rd basemen that Ozzie knows. That's SMALL BALL! 5) Rank your surgical procedures in order of discomfort afterwards? Achilles? Shoulder? Knee? Back? Snippage'? Get back to me by Thanksgiving so I can enjoy my turkey knowing the answers. |

What the hell do you think Mike Greenberg makes? Just curious. You're in the biz. You must have an idea. If Pappy is making 1.5 with just one market, Greeny has to be 15 million with all of his markets right? Hell, he beats Pappy in this market. I'm sure he does well in all of the top 10 markets. What would you guess he makes Mac? |

Not to mention the Sports Center gig, and the Arena League Play-by-Play. |

Right. I just want to know what Mac thinks he makes for the radio gig. You did remind me of something else. That radio show is also on TV. That probably kicks it up. |

Greeny has to share some of the shows worth with Golic. So maybe not 15 million. But he probably makes more than Golic. I'll bet Greeny makes at least 10 million and Golic gets 5 million. That's not that so far fetched when you consider local radio guys can make 1 million. Greeny's probably in the top 50 markets doing morning drive. That show brings in some revenue. |

You're WAY off, my friend. As a salaried employee plus bonuses, Mike Greenberg is NOT making more than 2 Mil. They get bonuses based on markets and ratings but not to the tune of $10 - $15 million. |

I'd like to hear Mac's answer. If he's making a little more than Pappy on a base salary then he needs a new agent. Hell, just come do local radio here if that's the case. He's killed Pappy over the years. Mac might remember this. I remember Greeny hosting that CLTV hour sports show when he had Boers and Mac as guests. Christ, Greeny rose through the ranks in a hurry. He went to ESPN 2 and was doing morning drive national radio in a heart beat. Score - CLTV - National radio. I think he did that in like 5 years. |

The show is syndicated not because of Mike and Mike but because of ESPN. Those stations existed as ESPN product before their show. Unlike a typical syndication deal, ESPN already owns all of the stations. ESPN has the monopoly. I would not be remotely suprised to hear that Greenberg makes less on radio than the 1.7 million North pulls down. ESPN has all the power in that negotiation. If Greenberg left there is not a single outlet that would pay him near that money. Forget local as Mac negotiated a contract for 600K at the time his show was hitting historical highs of listnership for a show on an all sports station. Here is my ignorant belief 2 million for radio including tv simulcast an extra 250,000 for his occasional tv work nothing in bonuses as ESPN could give a rat's rear end about his ratings. They simply want product between commercials on their stations. |

You make a good point about ESPN Good Dolphin. ESPN - It's us not you Greeny. Take the 2 million or we'll get one of our Bristol progammed robots to take it. And Golic, here is 200k. Meatball ex jocks are a dime a dozen. Greeny & Golic - Yeahhhh. We'll take it. That being said, he still has to get ratings. He has been there a while and has loyal listeners. He's beating the so called Mr. Chicago in this market. I'll bet he has more leverage now that he's been there a while. I just think it's more than you guys think. I'll stick to my 10 million guess. |

(btw, i loathe the guy) there is no way greenie and/or golic make more than o'reilly. http://www.forbes.com/lists/2006/53/X3QK.html |

Wasn't it something like "My wife thinks I'm a pussy, and I agree because she told me to"? He should stick to writing something a little more his speed, maybe a pamphlet on famous Jewish athletes... |

It's pretty odd that Greeny used to be some diminutive no-name BEARS beat reporter on a start-up sportsradio station (probably) intimidated by Coach Mike Ditka. Now he's carrying on with Ditka like their best buddies regularly on a national stage - when he isn't staring at Da Coach adjusting himself. |

I said it before in the now famous "jews in sports" thread, greenberg would be selling cupcakes with Swieca now if he had the looks of the typical sports radio guy. There is nothing about his style or knowledge that sets him apart. However he has a look that is far above that of the average ghouls in the business and is, therefore, marketable. While looks are not an admirable skill, they are a commodity, and I have no problem with him using it. |

Wrong. If Greeny had the "looks of the typical sports radio guy" (or any radio guy for that matter), he'd be Marc Silverman. |

Here's a Thanksgiving for Mac: Since you're back is out of commission, does this mean there won't be any "Pilgrim/Native" role-playing games this year between you and the wife? |

You're theory doesn't make sense Good Dolphin. When they gave Greeny the radio job it was just radio - no TV. How did his looks help him? America couldn't see how pretty he was. I like Greeny. I think he does seperate himself from others. |

I like Greeny. I think he does seperate himself from others. I believe ESPN hired him to groom him for TV. I forget how the radio gig occured, but if I remember correctly he was doing ESPN news with occasional stints on ESPN radio before the morning job opened up. |

Ok. Of course. TV people are always good looking. That goes without saying. Yes. Greenie started on ESPN news. |

someone else raised this question in another thread, and I thought it worthy of posting here. What is going on with the loss of signal strength in the afternoon? I work in Westchester & drive home to Batavia...a 45 minute commute so plenty of listening time. It gets to the point where I am forced to change stations. That cannot be good for ratings & for advertisers, not to mention it pisses me off thoroughly. It is reminiscent of the ol' SCR days. |
