The boys (sorry Mac/Jurko) keep saying Hester is a "gimick" player....

They are dead wrong...name one "gimick" Hester has done on the bears...

Hester is a special teams superstar....

How many reverses have they done....2 maybe...they have done about 100 fakes...(i wish they would just give him the damn ball)

Hester only non return play is the go route...(thown to only twice, 1 complete, 1 incomplete)

Am I wrong here? What do you guys think?

Don't forget the bubble screen for 0 yards. Turner's not calling that one
as much as he used to. Earlier in the year that was the only play on
offense that actually went to Hester.

It's not so much the plays they call to Hes. It's the way they do it that's gay. For example, last week he was on offense 6 times. 5 times he was involved in the play. So basically when Hester is in on O the defense already knows what's coming. Hester has to be in on 20 plays a game to be effective on O.

even if he was only in for 5 or 6 plays against the Gmen, if he adjusts and catches the one ball thrown to him, he becomes the hi-lite on the most effective offensive play in the game.

I think what the fellas are trying to say is that ON OFFENSE, he won't succeed at running standard run of the mill routes.

He'll succeed at bombs, end arounds, direct snaps, bubble screens.

It's not so bad. But that'll never make him a 'premier receiver'. If anything it could expose him to injury and then what really makes him special (returning kicks/punts) will be hampered.

Personally, I think the guy is great to have on the team. Put another above average WR with Berrian and Hester - along with Olsen and Desmond Clark and a single back set - and then we're talking! We're talking a penalty as there'd be 12 men on the field. ;)

Just sit one of the linemen. It will save him from embarrasment.

Call him whaterver the hell you want. He's a valuable threat and will be for years. Even if they never kick to him again.

Bears lead the league in starting field postion. Bears offense doesn't take advantage of it but maybe in years to come they will.

Fred Miller is a greeter at Wal-Mart. He smiles at the defense as they stream past.

As for Hester, the "gimmick" is him simply being on the field. He will be much more effective when he's a regular part of the offense. The Bears have to put him out there and then not even remember he's there for a while. As of right now, when he's out there, the defense knows what's coming.

Field position is useless unless the offense can move the ball. They may as well lead the league in almost scoring. Like you said maybe in years to come they will but since they haven't done it for the better part of 20 years I won't hold my breath.

This is why Ron Turner is a piss ant.

I know it's useless. But it's not Hester's fault. His value on this team is less then it would be on every other team. But that can't last forever. Hopefully his value shows up in these final 4 games and we run the table.

Grid...how will you know he won't succeed at running standard run of the mill routes...they have never tried it...he should be on the field for 20 plays and maybe, just maybe try a slant and see if the defense can catch him.

Actually the Bears are 2nd in field position (33.44 yard line). The Brown's are 1st (34.15). But you'll be surprised to find out that field position is over rated. Consider the worst starting field position is 26.83 (Miami, so much for Ted Ginn, eh?)

So basically the difference from first to worst is only 7 yards.
