Yeah these guys suck. They got the idea of the Afternoon Saloon while listening in a cab while they were in Chicago for the GT/ND game.

they should call these guys on the air and see what happens. it could end up like ditka vs. duerson

Brazen and derivative.
Although, I am unsure of the culture in radio. Is it similar to quoting a song in a jazz improvisation? This is a musical shout out of sorts.
Or is it (and I think this more likely) a cheap lame ass rip off?

Mac, your thoughts please.

I say we all email these guys and give them hell. It'd be funny if they got about 60 emails, especially from all of grids puppets reaming them for the name of their show, haha

Brandon Leak actually looks like the Harry T of the show. His nickname is "home Team." I've gotta go puke now...

I only punched in the webpage and did not listen to the Atlanta Afternoon Saloon. Not surprised. When I came up with that "tagging" of the show.... I thought it would catch on and that others later may follow.

Nothing to make me upset. Many colloquialisms in radio were culled from other shows. I observed Dahl for 3 1/2 years and took some things out of his act -- not necessarily detectable -- as well as Coppock (NFL preseason games as "dress rehearsals"), Boers ("cut of his jib") and others. I bet everybody who's done personality radio or television for more than six months has "borrowed" something from somebody else. All's fair in love and media.

I wonder if those fellas downtown in A-Town also do a bit "My wife or my radio partner?"

Nice to see you didn't follow Chet's fashion sense and wear your fur coat out in public Mac.

Good point, STU. I never leave the bedroom when wearing fur.

Doubt it. It would be tough to get soundbytes from barnyard animals.

Understandable Mac, but when it's a blatant rip-off by using the show name it's a bit...

Thanks for the response Mac. No I haven't heard my wife or radio partner. But, I have heard cutting edge guest such as Northie breaking down Ozzie Guillen and J Hood breaking down Kobe trade rumors on their station. Thank god for the am1000.com, dont forget to give your $1 deposit for the cart key next time at Scherwood :P

Wow! jg$ going to 1997 when I bitched publicly about the course that hosted my high school's charity golf outing. Got the team kicked off that course... which was for the best. That's old school, jg$. No you've got me puzzled as to who you are.

[-] The Afternoon Saloon - 1/7/2008
The First....Afternoon Saloon
Today on the Afternoon Saloon, from good strong Biloxi, Mississippi:

-Bowl Championship Game Preview featuring stuff

-Ole Miss Head Coach Houston Nutt (he beat LSU yo)

-Brian Barnhardt, voice of the Fighting Illini Football Team (they beat Ohio St. yo)

-Braves first baseman Mark Teixeira

Maybe I will check that out, yo.

It seems Atlanta radio talks more Illini than Chicago's does. I hope they don't mention the basketball team.

It is sad.

yo.

Yeah Highland ended up golfing with us (Lake Central) at Lake Hills 'RIP' in the 90's. I am an old Region Rat, that worked at some of the great establisments in the region such as Scherwood, Webb Ford and others during my HS summers. For the record the $1 for the cart is insane. It used to be a good public course.

A buck doesn't go very far, I just think it's terribly bad form to charge people playing in a charity tournament for cart key deposit. They treated us like we were a nuisance all day and throughout dinner. Actually, I'm glad it shook out that way. I haven't been back since and the Highland team (on which my son plays) moved to a more challenging (but poorly manicured) course at Wicker Park.

I put a log on the fire for that one. I was telling the story this weekend Mackey when Billy Peterson was stumbling around the NU parking lot after you and him polished off a bottle of Scotch during the football game and Bill was trying to figure out what part of Evanston he was sleeping in that night.

The Producer of that "Afternoon Saloon" has called me a number of times trying to book Jurko for their show. I guess they want one of our hosts in addition to copying our identity.

Their Producer told me they found us on a road trip and have been big fans of the show ever since.

Yeah, tell them Jurk can appear only after 6pm. He'll be so drained and tired at that point that they probably won't bother you guys ever again.

Pretty cool that they are copping you guys.
but, I think they are taking it a bit to far...

"Who do you like?"
"What's in Mike Vick's jail cell?"
"The Brave game" (Atlanta Brave or Native American)
"Tomorrow's Post"
"Sunday Night Joe"

I mean....c'mon...

And if you thought MJH's feature artist Friday's were bad, or don't care for Mac's love for everything Keith Richards and Jimmy Page, just be happy its not all things Toby Keith and Billy Ray Cirus

So do they have this really goofy emailer who claims to know all there is to know about Falcons football and shows up to remotes and really has no clue about football and even less on how to wear a mullet?? :P
