Just heard Mac talking about this.

Mac, did they give you any specifics? I'd be interested to know if it was random, casual comments you guys made or if specific topics were discussed on the show that they didn't think were in keeping with ESPN's lofty standards.

How about lofty standards for ads? (Listening to that dreck "Kars for Kids" ad.)

I would be proud if I said something so freaking wild and outrageous that the home of Jim Rome, Steven A. Smith, Around The Horn, Dick Vitale, Bill Walton, and PTI tells me to tone it down.

(Yeah, I know, Rome isn't really an ESPN guy anymore, but you get what I'm saying.)

Hey, how 'bout that new rocked out version of 'kars for kids?'

Here's the article: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07354/843183-194.stm

I guess they don't care much about ratings, as it's gonna be God awful brutal talking Chicago sports until baseball season begins.

I guess it's time for Chicago Baseball Tonight from 2-6PM, with MJH moving to the 9-11PM slot.

The Show will provide quite a lead-in. ;)

I've got a funny story about Mark Madden. I was checking out a UFO tribute band several years ago out at the Penny Road Pub, and some slobbish looking guy saw me wearing my Urlacher jersey, so he asked what I thought about the news that Kordell was signed by the Bears. I simply stated he couldn't be any worse that what the Bears have had. He disagreed and told me to 'ENJOY! For every unbelievable the guy makes, he'll make ten others that you'll want to kill him for.' He then told me he came in from Pittsburgh for the set that former UFO members Paul Chapman and Pete Way were going to play later that night.

It was Mark Madden. He never came out and said it, but it was. His passion for UFO and the NFL was unrivaled. I BS'd with the guy for about 15 minutes, and then I saw his profile:

Image

His musical passions are UFO, the greatest rock 'n' roll band ever, and offshoot groups MSG, Waysted, Mogg/Way and $ign of 4.

Maybe there's something to lacking tolerance + liking sports + liking UFO.... Kindred spirits with me and another cat I know.

It's weird. ESPN is so concerned about their image yet they still employee Sailisbury after he showed a picture of his dick to women at a Bristol party.

That meat head isn't even an asset to ESPN. They can replace him with another mediocre meat head football player and nobody would notice.

Sirius radio has to be the Mac's next move. We come to radio to be entertained and if T.V. can use profanity and show tits and ass , why not radio?

Chicago's or Hotlanta's version?

LOL! The Chicago version. The ATL version of The Monsters of the Mid-day lasted 8 months, I will assume the same for ATL's version of The Afternoon Saloon. Should UGA be ranked preseason #1 I will hang up and listen for my answer.

Right after Mac mentioned this they played a promo for Mike and Mike wherein Golic says "...or listen to me pound the snot out of Greenie."

I wonder what the Mouse would think of that?

It probably was in reaction to when Mac was talking about how proud he was about not calling Quinten(sp?) Jammer, Cal Jammer, and making a reference to the former porn star, "offing" himself.

If anything it was that. I didn't hear anything else even remotely close to borderline. Not that that was close, I'm just sayin'

I don't think radio would have a problem with nudity.

Doesn't a good fall ratings book which saw MJH as number one in the 18 to 45 male demo give them some leverage. Does anyone have the full numbers?

Also I heard Silvaddle going over some of Giangreco's on air comments on their show and they said he'd never get away with some of it on the tv broadcasts.

On another note I enjoyed the afternoon saloon today a little more than normal. It seemed that Mac kept things moving very quickly and jumped into other topics without missing a beat. It just seemed to have a good flow.

Who really cares? After the NFL playoffs are over there's really nothing to talk about.

I think the boys should each take a couple weeks off and rotate substitute hosts.

I didn't listen to a lot of today's show but what I did hear was fun but kinda jumbled. They seemed to be back to the lame ass teases and had a very "Mickey Mouse" feel to it. It was enjoyable but very...vanilla/safe at the same time. Kind of that morning show personality skittish formula, not really true to themselves. Or am I crazy?

Perhaps both. ;)
