I was reading through the listings here under MJH and there is one inescapable conclusion I have come to-Mac really gets under some people's skin. Not to the same degree Harry or Jurko does. Oh no, much deeper. I can't figure out why that is? I like Mac, myself. I think he's become quite self aware in the last few years (thanks in part to Sherry-or is it Sheri?) perhaps, as well as being well versed on most sports he cares to discuss and willing to admit when he has been wrong. Sure, he's opinionated and passionate about what he believes, but isn't that a strength when doing sports talk radio?? But the vitriol I see in print here that is directed at Mac, leaves me wondering-why????

Getting under people's skin is sometimes what makes a broadcaster successful. Bill O'Reilly offends way more people than Mac ever could (although he of course has a much larger audience) but he's still on the air. Controversy = attention. Attention = ratings. Ratings = job security.

Seems like Macey has it all figured out if you ask me. And for the record, nothing he's ever said has rubbed me the wrong way. I may disagree on some points, but I like the guy

If you're a football fan, and are given a free ride to see a Packer game, go on the field, free food in a suite, tell off Tony Siragusa in a casino, and visit with a Wayne Larivee among other perks, you'd better take it. I'm no Packer fan, but if that were offered to me I sure as fuck would say yes. And unless they happened to be playing the Bears and won, I'd most likely have a blast.

Thanks for the kind words, Steve and others. Just wanted to add an item or two. I/we don't contrive arguments for the sake of being controversial. It's all real... and my intent is to get different viewpoints expressed. It isn't difficult for the three of us to find items on which we vehemently disagree.

Meds indeed, Stu-Gotz. Lamictal, a "mood stabilizer" is my med of choice. I've been on it for a year and a half and it's calmed me down, without taking away "the edge." Losing the edge was my initial fear when meds were recommended by Dr. Larry some five years ago. My psychological "tag" is known as bi-polar II, aka psychlothymia. I also suffer from seasonal affective disorder, wherein the brain does not produce endorphins as a result of shortages of ultraviolet light. Many mental health professionals insist suicide rates are high in the Pac Northwest because of extended periods of no sunlight. Depression is not chosen. It chooses you.

Of course, Sheri has had an amazingly positive influence in my life. So have my sons, especially Patrick, whose autism does not preclude him from being the happiest 14-year-old I ever have observed. So has constant evaluation. So has avoiding Butch Hobson's shaving kit. Perspective is easier to find when the mind isn't imprisoned by contant alcohol baths and other intoxicants.

I am lucky to have lived through mistakes that take many down less fortunate paths than the one on which I have been walking. More in "Dangerous Talk," but I am an advocate of talk therapy... looking deep within one's self... and finding a way to solve problems that are real, not imagined. Depression, anger, fear of abandonment or failure, etc., are very serious disorders, but treatable once recognized, understood and acted upon. I'm glad I did. I think recognizing one's weaknesses and doing something about it is a real strength.

Mac's been riding (and I hope just figuratively) Favre's rise to glory for more then just one week.

I know there are other "level headed" Bear fans out there that can appreciate Favre. I'm just not one of them. Favre is the Cal Ripken Jr. of Baseball. Both solid guys and players. Neither dominate enough to lead their team to multiple titles.

Mac speaks his mind. Sometimes that gets him in trouble. Same with all of us. But he's got a wider audience than most of us.

Mac makes me laugh and think more than other radio person. I don't really care about his personal issues because I have my own to worry about. I think he does a good job of making the show true to the last corner saloon talk. Mostly sports but a lot of just guy talk.

It reminds me of when Theo Huxtable was diagnosed with ADD after all those years of just thinking he was a goof.

The rich are called eccentric while the poor are called crazy.

Wasn't making light (no pun intended) of anyones disorder..Wellbutrin is my mood stablizer and Mac you are correct when you say it chooses you.

Very well said Danny and you could not be more correct in the above paragraph. My disorder runs in 7 to 8 year cycles and the best meds the docs say is hitting the gym and staying away from booze which brings out the anxiety and depression..The commericals you run for the Lucinda Basset tapes describes what I was going through to a T.

I have not had a panick attack since I quit drinking but I do suffer from anxiety at times but I either hit the gym or just deal with it. Mackey for your SAD disorder the best medicines is to hit a gym and go balls out..It works. The endorphin release in your body during the work out is the cure.The Winter months I feel very tired most times and run down but the gym seems to help a lot during the cold , snowy, dreary months.

Mac has what all great radio personalities need, the ability to speak the truth without thinking about the consequences of what is being said. Sure, he gets a few extra “days off” every year…but that stuff keeps us all entertained. He is also doing a good job of taking the conversation up to “the line” but not crossing it these days.

I read a Howard Stern quote that I think applies to Mac as well:

“If you're going to be strong on the radio, you got to let it all out, even the ugly stuff. And you can't apologize for it. I seem to be some sort of lightning rod. I just really irritate people, you know? I really do. I still feel like I gotta prove something. There are a lot of people hoping I fail. But I like that. I need to be hated.”

Like him or hate him...just keep listening.

..Not saying that Robbie as I took something called Kolnopin which is a benzo and helps calm you down . I hate taking pills and wanted an alternative to them as not to become depended on them as well. I used to take Xanax when I was drinking as I found this pill was the end all be all cure for hangovers..Everyone I hung with used Xanax like candy after a night of coke, drinking, X, or what ever else was at our disposal. You woke up and felt fine as the drug was a detoxifyer to the body but was not a very good way to treat your body. I got rid of that as well..

What ever works for Mac is Mac's way of dealing with it and I would never suggest to anyone it should be done my way. I've never been to an AA meeting after rehab for the simple fact I don't need it. I have a full liquor bar and Tapper keg full of beer in my home and never once have I considered pouring a drink.. I know the consqeunces if I take a drink but to some AA is the reason they are alive. I once told a person that AA was very depressing to me as you hear the stories of the people who describe how messed up their lives are and their childhood was marred with abuse or their marriage is a very abusive one and they have turned to alcohol to combat that and after leaving some meetings you needed a drink after hearing what some of the people have been through.

I'm a very blessed guy to have such a great Mother and Father and a wife who stood by and supported me. My friends were great and it's all about how you deal with things and the path you choose to get better.

My name is Beef and I'm a habitual masturbator. I can't get through a day without snappin' a wrister at least twice. And I don't let work get in the way, I actually enjoy bustin' up the work day by pullin' the goalie in the warehouse shitter. Back in the 80s, I always enjoyed the challenge of jerkin' the chicken while driving in broad daylight too - I miss the baggy Zubaz - they were very accomodating for this feat. I also enjoy public sex, whether it's with another gal or two - or by myself. I'm also a long time member of the Mile High Club. ...granted I fly solo most of the time now. There's nothing like walking down that airplane aisle past all those miserable uncomfortable travelers thinking to myself "Yep... I just cleaned my pipes." I now live my life one snap of the wrist at a time.
