Perhaps I'm alone here, but when Harry says he hasn't been cheating on his diet AND he has been using the eliptical machine given to him, I'm less than convinced. Whats he using the eliptical for, hanging clothes on?? The guy (Shamus?) who got him for a partner in the weight loss challenge, got screwed. Does anyone else suspect that Harry is cheating and probably NOT using that eliptical very much? Harry means well I'm sure, but I think he's a very undisciplined person, who really has little motivation to win this contest. After all, Shamus would get a home fitness system if they won. But Harry gets nothing, but perhaps a bit of increased self esteem, if they win. Jurko will win, because he's much more competitive and I think he has a greater desire to get into better shape anyway. Harry not eating the pie he was being tempted with yesterday, was silly. He probably picked up a whole pie on the way home and just didn't eat any on air, so his partner, wouldn't know for sure, that he has been unfaithful to his diet. Harry shouldn't have gotten into the challenge if he wasn't going to give this a real effort. |

I'm just curious as to when Harry would find time to use the eliptical machine. Between work, all the free Bulls and Blackhawks games, and his time out at the bars, when does he have the free time? |

If he has severely restricted his calorie intake, the body may counteract by slowing down its metabolism. You need to eat enough calories to sustain your body if you've increased your activity. He could be over eating too. His body might also need time to respond to the combination of new activity and less junk. But yeah he might be cheating too. |

Alcohol and weight loss usually don't get along well. Harry said he has had alcohol "only twice" in 10 days. The way that fellow can throw 'em back, that's a lot of "empty" calories in 10 days. Therein lies the rub. |

Woo! Woo! That's why Harry's not going to win. Alcohol really does a number on your metabolism (see Slappy's posts), and it's not exactly a major component of the Atkins diet |

Evert January I quit drinking for the month - I will end up losing anywhere from 15 to 25 pounds in that time period. The difference is that when I don't drink, I don't snack and overdue at the regular meal times ( not to mention the late night eating after drinking) - plus add in excercise every day (the good old eliptical you find at the local Y). A few simple words of wisdom for Tiny - "Stop Drinking" - oh, and work out more - whatever you are doing now isn't enough. |

The truth is that a man with his weight and lack of muscle could eat and drink all he wants while still losing weight by simply adding exercise to the mix. |

Body weight may fluctuate several pounds during the day, and is not necesserally indicitive of the body fat percentage as averaged out during the day. In other words, he may not have gained a pound of fat. A 20 ounce glass of water can weigh nearly a pound. |

Harry could be chugging water before the weigh in to set himself up for a huge number at the end. He can add water weight, then piss it away later. But, after hearing his recent stance on Jerry Reinsdorf, I dont give him credit for being that smart. |

If he were to exercise, he may actually experience a gaining of weight, as he replaces fat with muscle. Then the fat would drop off,. |

Harry is a fat ass. Always will be a fat ass. He just agreed to this contest cuz it is sponsored and he probably gets paid. He never had any intention of losing weight for this thing. |

I agree...I kinda figured whoever got paired with Harry was going to be at a disadvantage in the contest. From what I've gathered about Harry, he hasn't had to work too hard for anything or show much discipline at any point in his life. Unless it's all part of a bit, it seems as though being in the lucky sperm club (FATHA!), and being forced upon Mac and riding his coattails is the only reason for his being part of a successful show. So I didn't think there was any reason to believe he would have the self-control or self-discipline to win the contest. If Harry has to do something himself...be funny, lose weight...it's bad bet he'll succeed. Screwing his partner like this is a pretty selfish thing to do. |

Maybe I should drink more? Maybe not because 200 lbs girls tend to look like theyre 115 lbs when a few have been downed. And we know how you are about your "requirements". |

Mac is right that the first thing you have to do is quit drinking. The problem with a lot of diets is that they're shock diets, they are too heavy on one side and not on any others... a real diet requires a balance. Weight Watchers is probably one of the most effective of pure weight loss because it shrinks the AMOUNT you eat, not necessarily WHAT you eat, and that's key. Now, as far as fried foods--that's one kind of food you SHOULD abolish at any time. It's portions that kill you. That's why eating out is rarely good for you. Eating 5 times a day with smaller portions is something pretty much any nutritionist will tell you. And to eat at least 3 hours before going to bed. Same with exercising. |

Harry and Jurko don't get paid, but they both already have received exercise equiptment for agreeing to participate. The listener partners only get eqiptment if they win. So Shamus is likely to get nothing, in spite of the considerable effort he seems to be putting into this. Then again, losing weight and being healthier, is a reward in itself. So (okay here's where you may want to gag) there are no losers in this contest. |
